Who stands at their friend's wedding spouting bizarro nonsense? Weddings like this one are expensive. Thousands of dollars when most ordinary folks are struggling financially. To have a wedding like this one is a huge accomplishment, beautiful bride in a gorgeous wedding dress, handsome groom, flowers, friends, family, beautiful church. For this to be funny it needed a toenail in reality. The actors were all great. The writers needed a third eye, someone to help them insert a hook of realism. It's missing an essential ingredient. Perhaps after the two talkers sit and stop texting and the minister is about to pronounce the couple man and wife, the groom's first wife enters and protests the marriage, while the two talkers immediately agree they had misgivings about the groom...

@j3zhott4 жыл бұрын
@@stacyhackney6100 That was the entire point. This skit was a direct jab at people who consider themselves social media influencers, bloggers, cynical friends, or that cliche in crowd of people in general. They hate but are so easily swayed by public opinion, shallow and inconsiderate. They were not speaking nonsense they were indirectly voicing their disapproval of the wedding because she was better than him. 2nd part is no one says what they really mean or feel any more to avoid backlash from the general public. So rather than say why they disagree with the wedding they're indirectly saying something that purposely leaves them an out. 3rd it was highlighting how the groom was special because he wasn't scared or concerned with keeping up those public facade to keep his overall public opinion in high standards or regards. They instantly jumped on his team showing how fake or easily these certain individuals change their opinions and minds. Direct jabs at the cancel culture, the in crowd, and social media in general. Their clothes, texting during the wedding, and hand gestures were exactly how cynical people behave. Layers on layers suttle pokes at stereotypes displayed i won't touch on if ya missed that as well.
@stacyhackney61004 жыл бұрын
@@j3zhott You explained the skit beautifully, thank you. I enjoyed your explanation far more than I enjoyed the skit. The skit is crafted art and it, by itself, should have been enjoyable and not require that I know about Influencers, Cancel Culture, social media, etc., to view and laugh at human behavior. The writers needed to find a way to make it funny to the audience who understood who/what was being dissed, and also for the millions not in the know. I am 61. I love I Love Lucy. I've loved that program since I was a child, when I knew nothing about marriage, finances, intermarriage or interrelationship power struggles, thwarted career ambition, or the myriad subjects ILL writers tackled, yet they managed to weave story accessibility into their comedy. Writers cannot assume the audience automatically knows what they're talking about. It is the writers' job to build basic information into their presentation, skit, story, etc., enough so that the audience can quickly get on the same page as the writers. I recommend the writers of this skit go back and study ILL episodes to learn how to include an audience so that the audience can enjoy the payoff. Vitameatavegamen is a good episode to study. Lucy and Ricky get handcuffed is another. There are many more excellently structured episodes in that series. Whatever a writer is trying to say, if she/he doesn't provide an on-ramp, they are communicating in a foreign language the audience can only partially understand. It is the writers' responsibility to know this requirement is part of their job, and to build the beginning of their crafted piece around this necessary information. An analogy is if a high rise condo builder failed to provide a entry door on the ground floor of a building. How are people supposed to access the structure? It is the builder's responsibility to know access points are needed, how to build/install access points, and to install the access point. If a builder does not understand their building requires access points, and fails to provide them, it is not the fault of passers by that they cannot enter the building.
