Today we're switching things up and instead of vlogging, I decided to sit down and talk about where I'm at in the wedding planning process. Zac and I get married in less than 5 months (eep!) and I thought it'd be beneficial for those of you who are also planning weddings if I talked about my regrets, mistakes & decisions I still have to make!

My mother was a bridal designer. We started planning a huge wedding then just eloped. No regrets. Marriage is about the life, not the party. With a wedding though, no pressure or stress. The laughs and memories years later end up being in what went wrong.

This is me a year ago. I felt that way up until my wedding day. Biggest thing I will say is MAKE SURE YOU EAT! You get so busy having fun and talking that you literally forget. Our team actually had us eat during cocktail hour and they had a nice romantic setup for just us two with the full menu. It was a nice break from the ceremony ending to being “on” all night at the reception. Both of us are introverts and it helped us with not feeling overwhelmed

We did a first look and it doesn’t take away from the magical moment. It was actually our favorite moment of the day because that’s when we did our private vows and got to spend time just the two of us. And getting all our pictures done before the ceremony was a plus!

Now I feel more sure of my decision to have basically a step down from an elopement…when that day comes, I’m not even engaged yet…despite pressure from my family to have a “real” wedding or else I’ll “regret it” because I am too shy and wouldn’t even enjoy a family party! It’s so hard to know what you’re gonna care about until the day comes! I have things I’m so relieved I didn’t do/buy even though it seems like everyone does them (ex. “Unplugged” sign for the ceremony or misc. decor to fill spaces). And definitely a couple things I didn’t think I’d care about but ended up regretting not doing. It’s tough to know when you’ve never done it before!! Good luck Clancy!

We were planning our wedding and realized the cost kept getting higher. I wanted a simple but beautiful wedding but didn't have the money that it came with it. Drama came while were discussing the guest list because we didn't want kids at the wedding while his sister was upset because she had a 3 year old that she felt MUST be at the wedding. While planning one night my husband stopped me and said "hey lets just go to Vegas and get married just you and I". I said when, he said "NOW". We got up, packed a small suitcase and headed out. NOT ONE REGRET!!! 10 years later, we renewed our vows with only our parents, siblings and our nieces/nephews at the same chapel we eloped. IT WAS PERFECT. We just celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. Wishing you all the best.

Clancy! I’m a fellow low maintenance bride. I know you get a bunch of suggestions/opinions but I only have one regret after my wedding.. I loved my bouquet (but I agree, other flowers at weddings are crazily overpriced) and I wish I had saved it and used the dried flowers in some art work. People press dried flowers or put them into a paper weight/piece of decor. I wish I had done that to have a small momento! Plenty of small business artists do really cool stuff with bouquets. Just something to check out if it sounds interesting to you

I never remembered any flowers from any weddings I’ve been to but I do remember watching my friend throw all of her flowers away after the wedding and all I saw were dollar signs on fire 😬. I had a "first look" and I am so glad I did! We had fun taking the pictures before the ceremony with our friends and family. One of our favorite pictures from that day is a picture of us sitting on steps in the church looking off camera and laughing. When the ceremony came we were so relaxed and I just really enjoyed the whole day. I also have done wedding coordinating for a photographer. And I would tell people that were trying to decide to do a first look or not. 1. Your hair, makeup, flowers etc. will never look as fresh as when you first put them on vs. after the ceremony. 2. Do you really want the first time that you see each other that day be with 200+ people staring at you? I love the private first look with the bride and groom and photographer capturing that sweet alone moment before the ceremony and celebration begins.

I totally get all of this. When we were planning our wedding, my mother in law felt like she had all the say but wasn't paying for any of it. It finally got to the point where I was like THAT'S IT, WE'RE GOING TO VEGAS. Southwest had a $49 fare to Vegas (this was back in the day when flights were actually that price, friends fly free, and all those other nostalgic deals) and we got married at Paris Las Vegas with just our closest friends and family. And honestly, out of all the traditional weddings my friends and other family have had, everyone still talks about our $2000 Vegas wedding and how fun it was. Vegas weddings are not for everyone, but for us, it was one of the best decisions we ever made.

I actually planned and catered my own wedding and my sisters did all the flowers. It was a beautiful wedding and I have no regrets. I was in culinary school at the time so I was able to hire some class mates to help serve and everything. I was literally in the kitchen cooking up until two hours before the ceremony, then did my own hair and makeup. This was many years ago, but still, it was as amazing as most weddings I’ve been to or catered over the years. My venue was in Sausalito, overlooking the San Francisco Bay. That’s the thing that people will remember.

Several things! My anniversary is July 6th 🥰 We barely did any flowers and what we had was fake! I did my own makeup because I wanted to look like myself and I love my pictures. I also started to second guess my dress but I ended up falling back in love with it when I put it on on my wedding day! I would 100% recommend a first look, not only for logistics but also because it was my FAVORITE part of my wedding! It really eased my nerves and made the day so much better ❤

I didn’t know what my venue looked like until I showed up. My Mom used silk flowers (fancy word for fake) and it was beautiful. I was so hands off. I didn’t care about anything but the photos. It turned out nice. Thanks, Mom!

My husband and I eloped. We told all of our friends/family ahead of time and everyone was supportive though some had questions which is somewhat understandable. No regrets at all! I’d do it all over again and again.

in the end, the wedding is for you and Zac. I planned mine in a week. We threw out the plans for a huge wedding and threw a small wedding with about 30 guests. And it was perfect for me. Only thing I would have changed is the date. We got married May 4th and live in AZ. Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) is a huge party holiday here and it's hard to go out to dinner on our anniversary weekend without there being a huge drinking crowd. LOL We usually do it the weekend after for that reason.

Love hearing about the wedding planning! I did a first look too for the same reason and it worked out great. My husband wore blue too. I didn’t do flowers either, I did fake flowers and they looked realistic and were way cheaper. I also did my own make up and hair and I felt myself that day.

My one advice for Zac’s suit is that you want to be really specific as to what color you are requesting. When my dad was in my uncles wedding probably in the 70s or the 80s the tux were supposed to be powder blue and when he went and picked up the suit it was canary yellow!! There was a lot of scrambling that day to find the correct one. 😂 I’m sure y’all will look perfect on your wedding day! I can’t wait to see pictures!

My vote for the suit: blue or grey! They’re best for warmer weather. Also black has always felt very plain and more funeral-appropriate lol My hubby did a blue suit (not a tux…plain old suit from a store lol) and his groomsmen did grey in the same suit.

😂 Clancy coming in again with the relatability. For my 16th bday I went to six flags in GA (which I went pretty much every year during spring break) with my mom, dad and little sister 😂 then the next day I got my wisdom teeth removed 🤦🏾‍♀️ and my husband and I did an eloping ceremony instead of a wedding because I’ve never been into being the center of attention. It was just us and we both loved it. 💛

Getting married this august and definitely feeling the pressure about finding vendors who aren’t already booked. I totally agree about those crazy FB groups though… there’s so much negativity and I honestly don’t know how helpful they are so far

I was SO excited to see this video! We are doing so many of the same things! My wedding is in October and no bridal party, flowers, planner and we hate big parties so we are hoping to keep it casual. I’ll be using faux flowers or dried lavender for centerpieces/bouquet. Also need to book hair and makeup and catering still. Eeekkkk!

I don't blame you for not feeling the need to go over the top with the wedding, I feel like it's so easy to get caught up in a million details that also end up costing a million dollars. To be honest I feel like when I get married I want to do an elopement for the actual wedding ceremony and then just have our close friends and family come for a reception/party to celebrate a little bit after. Plus you did your makeup on the news every day, you can definitely do it!

I did my own makeup for my wedding because I knew I like the way I do it, and I don’t know that I like the way someone else does it 😂 even a pretty makeup look just might not be MY vibe. You’ll be just fine doing your own!!!

Also, about the hair- my friend did her hair just curly/wavy like her everyday hair. She said it’s her day and she just wanted to feel like and look like herself. So I vote Clancy waves/curls!!

I agree you should do your own makeup as you do a great job! I truly think you do your hair great but understand if you don’t want the stress that day. I love your outlook as far as no bridesmaids, no crazy expensive flowers and letting Zac decide which color he wants. The amount people spend on weddings just astounds me! Would much rather save some of that money for a house!

You do you. Who cares what anyone else has to say about your day, your decisions? Good luck, life’s too short to stress about happy times, sit back and enjoy the journey.

Feel the exact same way about sweet 16s/weddings/any events that have something to do with me!! Felt weird to not want attention, but I hate it! I want everyone to be happy so it stresses me out and during a wedding, birthday, graduation, I dont want to be stressed.

I think it is more common in US to have a small wedding or elope. We had a destination wedding in DR and it was one of the most amazing moments. And we had a wedding planner, which was the best decision because we didn’t know nothing there.

I love how laid back you are with wedding planning; I'm the same way! I'm getting married this August, and my wedding planner (a family friend) asks me all these questions, and I say well, idk😂 I am so sorry about the hotel block! As for your hair, I definitely recommend half-up/half-down look for you. And for your makeup, if you feel comfortable, do your own! I felt the same way about my dress like I made a mistake, but every time I look at it, I'm so excited and fall in love with it all over again. Lastly, I'm not doing two dresses either because it's so expensive I'm wearing it all night😂

I feel everything in this video! Our wedding date is the same as yours and didn't realize how everything would be more that weekend. Also, flower costs are crazy... so we are doing silk flowers for less than $600 lol just not a priority to us. Your day will be amazing and don't worry, you 100% aren't the only one who doesn't stress or believe that you need to spend a fortune! Enjoy your day :)

I’m a may 2023 bride and the Facebook groups are insane!!! It rips people & their relationships apart. Left those groups real quick! I was also a little torn about first look, but decided to do it. I’m not paying all this money to miss any bit of my wedding! Friends & family are traveling and my priority is spending time with them & my new husband, not just taking photos to document it 😂
