Today I am going to be showing you how I set up my wedgie sled to cut segments. I am making a personal size bowl. Tune in to see how things go!

So cool. My first introduction to segmented cutting. Not sure what the next steps are. I will continue to research more of your videos

really enjoy the video man. I work about the same way in my shop. I learned a lot on your sled. The one thing that got me was that if I do not put the wedge next to the blade (making it parallel to the blade for reference) I didn't get the correct angle even though my arms on the sled were both on the wedge.

I bought your sled set, works great. @46:30 You're basically using the previously cut segment as a gauge block to set the cut depth stop, which gave me the idea to use actual gauge blocks plus school boy geometry to allow quick and repeatable setup without trying to read tiny marks on rulers. You don't need ultra precision machinist gauge blocks. The $34 fifteen piece set on Amazon (1-2-3 block plus fourteen more) works fine. Example: for a 20 segment ring, tan (9 degrees) = 0.15838444 (from a calculator) x 8" diameter ring (approximate desired ring outer diameter) = 1.267075523 inch outer segment length. So I stack the 1" side of the 1-2-3 block with a 1/4 gauge block = 1.25 inches which gives a calculated ring diameter of 1.25 / tan (9) = 7.89218941 inches which is close enough for me.

Gracias por compartir tus videos, son muy buenos, podrias decirme como conseguir esas plantillas para configurar mi carro de corte para segmentos. Gracias, Saludos.

Got an idea.. how about marking our slide stops for diameters of common segments? Need a chart or similar to cover all bases but marking our stops like at 17:30 gives repeatable results. Thank you for all your work, appreciate it!

do you recommend using a hold down clamp when cutting the segments. I have had issues keeping the wood slabs from moviny slighly baack or forward

You can. I have thought about attaching one to the fence of the sled. For when the pieces for to small.

Sorry I missed it live. What do think about using the sled on a bandsaw? What’s the point of the zero clearance wood?
@madiradesign
@madiradesign 3 жыл бұрын
I thank that using the sled on a bandsaw will work great! Ive seen many turners only use a bandsaw so I think you will be just fine! The zero clearance is more there to force the segments away from the blade. causing them to fall away instead of just sitting there near the blade

What are the dimensions of the table saw sled. I have a Ridgid table saw mdl. TS 2400-1 and need to know if it will fit on the table

Thanks for this. I think if you make the whole top of the magnetic strip beveled, instead of having a horizontal landing next to the blade, the pieces will all immediately fall away from the blade and onto the table. As it is, they are pretty close to the blade and vibration could cause them to catch the blade.

2 X 3.14 X radius = ? ? divided by number of segments you want to use = length of pieces. To determine angle, 360 divided by 2 X number of segments.
