About your comment on Gachapoid being maybe marketed to children, Yamaha sells “VOCALOID For Education” that utilizes VY1 to teach elementary to middle school children music theory and singing, it’s utilized in quite a few schools in Japan and has a very simplified vocaloid editor
@WeebaLu Жыл бұрын
Oohhh I see! Okay, that makes more sense. I was thinking parents were supposed to buy an overly complicated music editor for a small child! 😂 That's really cool though, I'm sure there's future Vocaloid producers in the works in classes like that!

As I've followed Vocaloid for over a decade, seeing a once incredibly wonderful, vibrant, colorful phenomenon dwindle to almost nothing (the weekly rankings dropped "Vocaloid" ages ago), one hard truth has become clear to me, and, more than anything, explains why so few Vocaloids have enjoyed any real success. A producer does not buy a Vocaloid to add beauty or creativity to the world. A producer buys a Vocaloid to _become a success._ That means giving a predominantly Japanese pop audience what they want, and, as we've seen with pop fandoms worldwide, that has a pretty small range. They don't want cartoony children's show voices, they don't want Enka, they don't want any twang whatsoever, they _definitely_ don't want womanly, and male singers, _forget it._ (You could've very easily added Arsloid and Zola Project to the list.) Nowadays it's gotten so bad that even Vocaloids who were anything but obscure in the past are practically unknown now. I'll give you a few names: Lily. Iroha. VY1. VY2. Galaco. Mayu. Una. Yuki.
@skeouspace2 жыл бұрын
i see these vocaloids used very often among vocaloid producers currently, i think the loss of popularity for many of these vocaloids were as a result of, as you mentioned, how vsynth content has sort of faded into obscurity and how crypton's vocaloids are currently the only ones that newer vsynth fans are typically familiar with

Speaking of VOCALOIDs that sound like each other.. some people say Unity Chan is underrated but she. Literally sounds just like RANA. And since RANA has a cuter design I prefer her more. Sure Unity’s design is unique but not really *iconic* yknow? Also I don’t think RANA is unpopular but I wish there were more covers with her
@WeebaLu2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree that she definitely does sound like a slightly higher pitched Rana. I like Unity-Chan as a mascot, of course, but Rana is way cuter and way more iconic to me! I think the main reason Rana doesn't have as many covers, despite being originally a V3 Vocaloid, was that you could only purchase her V3 by buying an entire magazine series dedicated to Rana's release.
@kittymations65092 жыл бұрын
I feel like Ruby is very underrated. She's my favorite female vocaloid- she has a fantastic voice and an amazing design, and I absolutely love her. YuzukeKira uses her, and she sounds perfect in their songs, like Unbreakable and Games. She's the most obscure out of any of the PowerFX vocaloids, and it breaks my heart to not see her included in headcanons or projects involving the PowerFX vocaloids being a family unit.

I’m noticing a pattern with Yamaha where they just drop a vb with zero marketing or posts about it and then be like ‘well we did our job, let’s hope they sell well’ only for them to sell like complete shit which sucks cause a lot of my favourite Vocaloids are pretty obscure like Haruno Sora, Mo Qingxian, Lumi, Arsloid, Yumemi Nemu etc. Great video! I hope some of these Vocaloids can get a bit more attention from others (especially Mirai cause I adore Mirai and I’m pissed that no one gave a shit about her)

And when one of their voicebanks actually get attention and become well-known, that voicebank has almost zero original song because Yamaha gave said voicebank a shitty licensing rule that forces producers to purchase some stupid license before they can profit from their songs with said voicebank. Can you tell who I'm referring to here?

He could've been a big success, he could've been used by big producers, he could've even appeared in concerts, but none of that can become true thanks to Yamaha. There's also the fact that his voice provider hated recording the voice samples which mean he won't be getting an update any time soon

I think the problem of Yamaha is that they did too many voices that are not unique anymore and instead there are many sounding like already existence voicebanks that give better results than them. Only a few of them really got kinda popular, like Otomachi Una and her Spice Voicebank that covered up her Sugar Voicebank, Yuzuki Yukari manage to get popular although the doesn't have much to offer either but now she is a CeVIO, and Fukase is just being used got talkloids making of him a very gay and mean cross dresser that makes V-Flower's life a hell.

I'd love to but it's mainly copyright issues and permissions from the Vocaloid producers that prevent me. I don't feel right taking a Vocaloid song from an unknown/smaller producer even though I credit them heavily, mostly as some Vocaloid producers don't like when Western fans discuss/upload content with their work. As well as major copyright issues in the past. I've had only 5 seconds of a song for a video and it ended up getting blocked either worldwide or limited to only a few countries. As I want my videos to viewable and respectful to other creators, I'm afraid I often can't showcase the music :(
