WEEDY FLOWER GARDEN | Come see the parts of the garden we try to hide! 😅

Lest we ever try to make it seem like we have it all together, come join us on a tour of the more shameful parts of our garden.
But really, no shame. We are doing the best we can with very busy schedules, and the reality is, flower farming is much more than just pretty armloads of flowers. It is always, constantly, a juxtaposition of hard work and pleasure, dirty hands and delicate roses, triumph and tragedy (hello first zinnia crop that bit the dust).
And in a blessedly rainy month of June, sometimes the piles of weeds are as high as the piles of flowers. If your garden looks a little like this, too, no shame, friend. We know you're doing the best you can, too.

Reminds me of life and people… No one is perfect, even if it looks like it on social media. We may look great from afar but we all have weeds that need to be pulled from our lives, areas we need to work on. On the other hand, even if it looks like someone is beyond hope or is not worth our time or care…or maybe we think this of ourself…Remember that there is beauty in each of us waiting to blossom. Sometimes they/we just need some help to pull the weeds and to see the garden as it could be or that it is beneath the weeds. Love ya!

I’ll look on your account, but if you didn’t do a video with how you arranged the ground cover & blocks & paths, I’d love to watch that process. The whole garden is beautiful & the music as well as your personalities are just great!

The good, the bad and the ugly - even a rough day in the garden is truly a blessing! Thank you for sharing your reality - there is so much beauty even in the 'failures' - it's inspiring! Now, out to do some weeding of my own!

I have spent the last 2 days weeding my garden. Up early before it gets so hot. Pulling bind weed and canadian thistles. I got behind on my weeding too. You have a Lovely garden.

So encouraging! Would love a video on the way you think out your beds and how big of a bed you plant at a time. It always surprises me how you can be out with no shoes on! I feel like I could easily get poison ivy or bitten up, perhaps in a couple years after my garden is more established. I always look forward to your videos!

We do sometimes wear shoes when it gets cold. :D We don't have poison ivy or critters that like to munch on us, but if we did we would likely resort to foot wear, too. And the first snake I see in the garden will probably mean I have to wear hip waders. 😅

We feel you!! May we offer you a bit of advice we give ourselves for when the garden and to-do list gets squirrely? Just show up and do a little bit everyday. It's amazing what a difference that will make. You can do it!

The kittens are free to a good home!! :) They are cute but have been more than a little destructive in the garden. The small white flower is Argentinian Forget Me Not.

Can I ask why you don’t plant in the fabric to help with the weeds?
@rootdesigncompany
@rootdesigncompany 3 жыл бұрын
We utilize a No-Dig method in our garden which keeps most areas weed free. No-Dig means we don't till or turn over the soil on our beds, opting rather to top dress with compost and organic matter every year, thereby covering up any weed seeds. It is a pretty effective weed barrier... and theoretically less work, unless you let the weeds get ahead of you like we did in spots. If we tilled every year we would definitely plant into row cover to make our lives easier.

I love the cherry /caramel phlox but am a horrible seed starter. do you buy plugs or start from seed? If you start from seed and would consider selling starts, I'm in akron/canton area and would buy plugs from you.
