@tremoore983114 күн бұрын
The problem is that most of the structure centers around contracts and money. Those who play 9 conference games get more money to play the extra game. Telling someone, "you should too" isn't that simple. Telling FOX to allow THEIR PrimeTime games to be broadcast outside of their PrimeTime widow on other networks after they paid the big bucks already isn't that simple. Discussions breakdown when money is attached. Telling for profit businesses to do things that'll hurt their profit is a pipedream. An example is CBS's relationship with the SEC. When CBS wasn't contractually obligated to pay more when A&M & Missouri joined the conference. The SEC requested that CBS pay the average split per SEC to include the 2 new teams. They refused. The SEC's no longer in business with CBS.

We should either eliminate the postseason and a pretense of a “national championship”, which implies everyone gets a fair shot (which couldn’t be farther from the truth). Or we eliminate conferences that only look after their own interests. I’d prefer to keep conferences, but reduce them to a maximum of 10 teams each, and remove the postseason entirely. How do we get rid of SEC bias? Simple. Eliminate the preseason AP Poll. Polls should come out in like week 7, or start of November, when there is a body of work to evaluate. Preseason polls hold a disproportionate amount of influence on how perceptions are formed throughout the season. SEC fans never seem to bring this point up either. Then what? Should other teams be arbitrarily placed higher than some SEC teams due to the fact that their not SEC and "even" out the conferences? Should we not rank teams and then rank until mid of the season? If so how are we to determine the rankings then? Becasue if it is purely win loss based in a vacuum then all conferences G5, P4 doesn't matter would have similar records inside the conference due to the conf. teams obviously playing each other. So then we assume all SEC teams of same record are ranked just as high as Big12 or ACC for example of similar records. Yet we know that may not be true and some teams played better opponents like you cannot tell me that a win over Ohio State is not significantly more impressive than Miami despite similar record and both being top of their conference. I think its BS to play more talented rosters in the SEC every year and then not get in because my team had to play said insane roster some 6 times in the SEC getting 2 losses knowing that if I were to be in a different conference the outcome would likely be only 1 or no losses.

On the SEC bias conversation as well, lots of people will point to bowl games in years past where SEC teams have lost to Big-10, Pac-12 teams etc. When you don't play anybody and can afford to play your 3rd stringers by the end of the game, you can generally avoid big injuries. When you are playing Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, LSU and Ole Miss in a year, it is easy to see how players can be exhausted and injured by late in the season. Back to back big-time games make a big difference in the number of injuries and overall level of play from these teams. So have a healthy Illinois play a fully depleted Texas A&M and see who wins. It is a bit of a toss up at that point. But give South Carolina their schedule and they would also be 11-1 at the end of the season and with fewer injuries
@adamfuller564013 күн бұрын
The problem is that we call it a “National championship” when the south is the only region where more than half the people care about it at all. The states of Alaska or New Hampshire are not equipped to produce or contend for a so called college football “National championship” to the same extent the states of Alabama or Georgia are. It gives unwarranted legitimacy to something that is supposedly rightfully earned, when it is not. On top of that, the best team doesn’t even win the National championship half of the time, which is why this whole Nick Saban-era national Championship or bust mindset ruined the sport. There shouldn’t even be a postseason. College football is about Saturdays in the fall, in-state rivalries, pageantry. The postseason turns it into NFL jr. without having the NFL draft or revenue distribution system to increase parity. The worst of both worlds.
@MrDrewbartshire13 күн бұрын
The current system is bias because the inputs that assign values like strength of schedule and quality wins/loses are many times based on preseason rankings setting the floor SUPER high for the SEC that means the rest of the teams are having to play catchup. The answer to the question about limiting SEC bias is to remove preseason rankings. 1. Wait until out-of-conference games are done to release rankings. 2. Force all conferences to play the same amount of conference games in a season. 3. Do not allow neutral site out-of-conference games.

If there is a perceived bias towards Notre Dame, ACC and Big 12 teams making the playoffs, again, the committee in time maybe forced to make changes. It's not just the execution on the field, where much of evaluation is subjective, then there is a political side of the equation. We actually saying Cal, the only team FSU has beat, who was last in the ACC for the majority of the year, and still is 3rd to last... Power wise, is a top 25 team? I know they got a couple wins recently... And challenged Miami... But come on? =/ that FSU loss has to tank them all year.... Especially if FSU just gets no other wins... Like they have

Brian Kelly will not sleep well the days leading up to Vanderbilt. Worst spot for LSU. Losing at home not an option right now. Does the team quit against Oklahoma the next week? If they do and lose? #1 QB coming in. But a freshman.

I don’t think SEC bias exists but until Missouri is banished from the top 25 for the remainder of the year I understand where these folks are coming from.

People love to complain about anything. Perfection, how most people view it doesn't exist. Perfection in reality, would be considered boring, because nothing special would happen.

I don't like it, but it is true that the SEC is very strong this year. Jeff Sagarin has 8 SEC teams in his unbiased (computer) top 25, Ken Massey has a whopping 10 in his unbiased top 25. Yeachhh...Hopefully next year that will not be the case.

Looking at new playoff rankings, I believe your looking at 3/4th s of the teams that will make it. Oregon and Ohio st locks, Indiana barring disaster is a lock, PSU plays no one, lock, Notre Dame in and eliminates the army, either Boise or, Tulane, Miami only acc team, watch, Sec teams ole miss, Texas, Georgia, either Alabama or Tennessee, A&m will lose again, Not much drama imo

Top 40 teams/brands in new league divided into 4 10 team divisions during season leading to division champs and a 16 team playoff for natty. Everybody else have their FBS or whatever league and play during the spring to not compete with super league. Win, win. Easy.

The BIG admin is accountable and need to negotiate better with Fox as it hurts the coaches and teams as recruits from south playing Friday night can’t get up to Noon kick off. The situation is untenable to have 6 noon games-too many

Here's my take on the SEC bias.. These teams are ranked at the beginning of the season and given a narrative based on the talent on their roster. Then, no matter what they do the rest of the way because so many of these rosters are rated so highly at the beginning of the year there is no floor that allows them to slip through the cracks. Just because Ohio State was deemed to have one of the historically highest rated talent rosters, they still managed to lose a game. I feel like it's an argument that has been made in the past, just because you have the best players doesn't mean that you have the best team. I feel like this should be widespread for all conferences, you should be allowed no more than three teams in the playoff from your conference. If you cannot win your own conference or even be in the top three you should not be allowed to qualify to win the national championship. I also think it's ridiculous because there's money involved for the teams that make it and for their conference. This should immediately put a cap on the amount of teams that are allowed per conference.

Back in a day noon kick off was the big game. I'm not sure Josh is speaking for all of us, I kinda like the 12 o'clock kick off. I get to watch the big game in the B1G to kick off my college football weekend, and I can turn off the blowout SEC game at night if I need too and go to bed.

Maybe the people who shout SEC bias should put more SEC teams on their out of conference schedule so we can all see on the field whether its bias of whether its truth...

Why is California power rated #24 in the JP Poll they are 1-4 in ACC play
@adamfuller564013 күн бұрын
Because the ACC is a much better league than it gets credit for. I swear you people think anything that isn’t SEC or Big Ten is Peewee football or something.
@Intragravity13 күн бұрын
@ this isn’t about SEC or Big 10 bias Cal lost to FSU and gave them their only win of the season there are so many teams that should be power rated over them
