Effort is different for everyone and should be taken on a person to person basis. Having said that, a majority of people claim that the treadmill is easier than road running. For a small majority of people like myself, I'm a whole 1:30 min/pace faster on the road than the treadmill. So for me, the treadmill is much harder for me. 7 mph on the treadmill is 7:30-7:40 min/pace for me on the road. Its pretty drastic but it is what it is. So in terms of training on the treadmill, just go whatever effort you feel is appropriate honestly especially for easy to steady runs. It'll always feel tougher in the later miles because you are constantly running at a fixed speed with no mini adjustments in between seconds so its a constant effort which for me makes it feel harder. Might be the same for you

@crodtv I had bad luck with the garmin race predictor... It predicted that I would run 15 mins slower than i did on both of my 2023 marathons. I did the garmin Lactate threshold tests and that probably wasn't correct either...Just something to think about... keep it up!

Great man! I registered for SF marathon. I am planning to start training. Had my very first Berkley marathon just under 2 hrs few weeks ago. Thanks for making this series.

You mentioned chatgpt said an 8mph on road = 7.6 on the treadmill, but the reality is treadmill is easier than road. For equivalent effort as the road, you either need to add 1% incline, or increase the speed
