+Quentin Styger What muscle do they work doing that stupid pull up? Their abs?
@TzeiEm8 жыл бұрын
+Quentin Styger Well it's not intended to be the same exercise either. It's more about cardio, muscle coordination and overall body exercise than just building lats. It's easier than a regular pull-up but some ways harder at the same time. I just started doing crossfit recently and can do 15 normal pull-ups just fine but maybe like 1 or 2 kips max, because I'm not used to the movement. Crossfit overall is not like bodybuilding where you concentrate on isolating a muscle or certain muscle groups. Basically all the exercises aim for overall body and core development, if that makes sense.
@TiiSea8 жыл бұрын
+Quentin Styger Pretty good. They add protein to it. A little too chalky if you ask me.
@Liftheavy858 жыл бұрын
Kipping pullups remind me of gymnast on the rings except they stop mid momentum. Not sure why they have this movement when it comes to workouts involving pullups.

I just started crossfit.... and I love it. Only three days and I am so sore, it is good sore. I love working out all my body 5 days a week. Crossfit is challenging. I am in the armed force and I have done a lot of different workout, but nothing with the intensity as crossfit. I have a good coach that is watching me and teaching me to do the excercise properly. Don't hate if you haven't try it. Now, not every crossfit gym is the same, keep that in mind.

Since there's no sarcasm font I can't tell if this is a sincere question. If it is, then these are all relay events, the next person can't start their portion until the person before them finishes a rep or set and "tags" them in.

I'm not really sure what prompted that exact response, I was just telling the OP what was going on in case he was actually curious, if he was making a joke then I would tell him good one because it's pretty funny. I couldn't really care less about why or how CrossFit became popular. If it gets people active and they enjoy it, then good for them; if you prefer bodybuilding, awesome. If someone likes power lifting or strong man more, or even the person that just likes to run everyday (gasp!) It doesn't matter, whatever gets them off the couch, you do you and let them do them.

I like black team . For all you haters out there don't forget about pro football pro basketball pro baseball. A lot of those guys retire at 40 completely messed up from head to toe. Any sport were you have to be physically active has a chance of messing up your body. Even tennis and golf. In fact even you people who are "bodybuilders," who apparently know all the right "form," are going to have joint problems. These people are having fun and the fact is a lot of you know it alls would have a lot of trouble completing these types of routines let alone doing well at them. Stop hating, it is ugly, jealous, and embarrassing you are not better than everybody else.

***** by definition, indeed it is a sport.
@jared_s29 жыл бұрын
***** I wouldn't have replied if I thought you weren't trying to be civilized. And as I said before crossfit is truly a sport, by definition, and I stand by this. And by now I would say it had, and has, plenty of recognition. As does bodybuilding with the IFBB, Olympias, Arnolds and other internationally recognized, paid, regulated events. Furthermore, I'm not a crossfitter, I just support people doing positive things. As far as a poor and negative attitude, you seem to display that. Immature jokes, which could be hurtful, about people's mothers, also, trying to condescend other people for what they love doing, and when there is nothing wrong with it.
@jokesonyou92499 жыл бұрын
but a pro football players can do a proper pullup............
@jared_s29 жыл бұрын
JOKE'S ON YOU 1.these athletes can do pull ups 2. these athletes are doing all of their movements according to the regulations set, and even though you probably think they are stupid, most people aren't repeating forty to fifty in a set. 3. I'm sure there are plenty of NFL players that are too heavy (fat) to pull themselves up even once, and the majority that can, arent exceeding sets of 10 repetitions.
@jokesonyou92499 жыл бұрын
Jared Szczesny you must know some out of shape football players since they can barely to sets of 10. I dint think this is stupid...i get the point of all this. Im saying if your gonna do something do it properly. Its harder to do it in proper form, this is just cheating. Simple.

I enjoy crossfit and give kudos to their overall endurance. I'm curious about the pullup/muscleup thing they do though. As a former CO, I've seen many cons and excons crank out a massive amount of pullups, even Marines. The form just looks different. Is this method indigenous to CF?
@bearpath1009 жыл бұрын
Ah I see. Do any shoulder issues ensue because of the different form?
@TheAbsoluteSir9 жыл бұрын
TimberBlay Yes they do. Crossfit is cool but it has flaws such as high rep olympic lifting (which forces athletes to neglect proper form in order to complete the reps) and kipping chin ups which can cause shoulder problems down the road. It's good stuff but you're more than likely going to get injured.
@bearpath1009 жыл бұрын
@ Alex Hamilton, Thank you for the information. What I gleaned is that while I could use the sets/WOD of CF only do so with form and pacing and rest between. I have never subscribed to only 1 method of movement for martial arts so doing so with fitness would be hypocritical. I thank you once again for giving me the correct path. Good country to visit but don't live there. I can respect that.

+Southern Boulder well. i am a noobie ... but this is clear as f ... to do it faster! or what?
@SouthernBoulder8 жыл бұрын
tim lindner I get that but I would personaly prefer to be doing a standard pushup fast then when I cant do any more do them with an assist if I was wanting to go fast with chins. I find the benefit is allot better even when doing high volume and speed to do the movement as a standard form
@MikeyJAllTheWay8 жыл бұрын
+Southern Boulder Their only aim is to get their chest to the bar as many times as possible and, as far as I can tell, it doesn't matter how it is done. When actually training to improve performance/size/strength etc strict form is definitely the way to go, not kipping.
@tskfrcdgr8 жыл бұрын

@ryangi59 жыл бұрын
I've seen a few cross fit videos, and I really don't know much about the sport at all. So let me ask, when they do pull-ups, why do they do that huge swinging motion? Is that just to increase the number of pull-ups they can do over traditional form because it's a competition to do the most? That's my best guess. Let me know.
@reddeltasev079 жыл бұрын
Two things: Number one. The competition setting requires a modified form to get the most reps. A decent analogy would be the accentuated back arch and wide grip of the kind of bench press you would see at a powerlifting meet. When the only thing that matters is the weight or the number of reps, it makes sense to change up any variables you can to so you can perform the best in competition. Number two. The other purpose is to integrate the whole body into the movement, changing it from a strength exercise into a gymnastics-type movement with increased coordination and timing demands. Depending on the rep scheme, it can also be used to hit up the cardiovascular system. Some coaches will use kipping pullups as a teaching tool for explosive hip extension, etc. to get skill carryover to jumping or the Olympic lifts, since it doesn't always come naturally to all people. For these people, kipping pullups can help build that motor pattern. Is it a sufficient substitute for strict pullups for strength building? Hell no. A lot of internet people get confused about that, and assume that kipping is the only way Crossfitters do pullups. A smart coach won't even allow their athletes to kip until they have demonstrated sufficient strength with strict pullups because of the risk of injury. I'll never claim to know everything, but this is pretty much my understanding of it.
@ryangi59 жыл бұрын
Craig Orwin A very thorough reply! Thank you!
@reddeltasev079 жыл бұрын
***** Agreed, and that will be the case for 99% of people. But people are complicated and someone without a previous athletic background to draw from might need that help in building a motor pattern. I'm sure its worked for someone at some point

Alright, I would like to politely ask.. Why is it that these guy's do pull-ups like that? I mean no offense but what is the difference between a straight/regular pull-up and the kind of pull-ups shown in this video?
@kuronogenkai8 жыл бұрын
+Casadorperfect I'm no way in hell an expert, but I mean isn't pretty obvious that they're using mommentum to do them ? basically way less effort. If someone could give me a reasonable explanation of why this would actually work then I'd be happy
@Rob749s8 жыл бұрын
+Casadorperfect I think it's pretty obvious what the difference is. The kip is used as an assistance to complete the movement, because the GOAL is to move your body from hanging to raised, and the assistance makes it more efficient / easier. It's not about building a big back or feeling the burn or isolating the lats. It's purely about moving from A to B.
@kuronogenkai8 жыл бұрын
so is there any valuable point that can be appreciated from this exercise I mean there's more very certain effort but wouldn't be more challenging to do them correctly even if thery are like 10-20 in the lapse. Not trying to be an ass or anyting
@Rob749s8 жыл бұрын
kuronogenkai gaki Why would they want to make it more challenging by doing them "correctly"? It's not strength training.
@kuronogenkai8 жыл бұрын
to me this kind of activities are more awesome when they do it correctly since it's more easy to appreciate the challange, let's say it would be like making a difference between a Muay thai or whatever art match and WWE, if it's for the fun and laugh that's completely cool to me, but maybe if I would like to see results in my training if I decide to add these kind of exercises then I'd like to know why would bring me more benefits than doing it the classical way, and all ears to hear a concrete explanation in that sense.

It's more of a cardio exercise than anything, a means of banging out multiple reps in a short time. I'm not trying to justify it; I do believe that a strict pullup is just as important. I'm just pointing something out. Although I can't lie, butterfly pull-ups (or whatever they're called) are really fun.
