My husband works 80 hours a week as a high school teacher and coach when his sports are in season and about 60 hours a week when they aren’t. Even in the summer he has practice every day and ends up working at least 20 hours a week while he is “off”. It is a brutal schedule and there isn’t even a financial benefit to make it feel less bad.
@Beemmeupz23 күн бұрын
How does he get through it. Does he have any hobbies?
@DaltonsFriendswood23 күн бұрын
@ coaching basically is his hobby. He goes to sleep the instant he comes home. We basically don’t see him much for 6 months of the year. I was just talking to a retired coach last night and he said it takes a special wife to stay married to a coach because the hours are so long and terrible.

I am not at yours or other Physicians levels yet but I will be at some point. Thank you again and I wish only happiness for you two. Tell your new hubby to not take your educational time slot and advice regarding medicine, med school, and studying away from us. Some of us are standing at he door knocking and need her guidance to open the door and hold our hands showing us what medicine looks like from her perspective. Congrats and happy birthday to my fav medical blogger.

It’s impossible to work 80 hours a week without taking naps or breaks. I know you get to sleep in the hospital and and take naps when you can. You also have a bed you can sleep in. My residency program doesn’t have that. We get no beds. We have to sit on the computer all night.

My husband was in the military before med school and Gen Surg residency and without a doubt, residency hours are a walk in the park compared to the military. The difference is we have 4 kids now and man, solo parenting through this is for the birds. At least in the military I had a village of friends. Residency as the spouse of the resident can be so lonely. 😞

The military vs residency is very different. I feel like it's a stretch to compare the hours and such of completely different professions. But i understand. The partner of a resident has it rough.
