I grew up in the 60s, and believe it or not, our roads and down towns are much cleaner today than then. Now we have trash cans outside on street corners and at businesses and people like you who clean up our roads. Far fewer today litter now than back then. Plastic bottles should be banned or made to pay 50 cents for, then refunded when returned for recycling or reuse. (Like glass bottles 50 years ago.) First they found plastic in fish deep in the ocean, and now they are finding it in humans. Something has to be done! Note: I was diagnosed with macular degeneration at age 64 and had melanoma removes at age 68, (am now 77). I am an outdoorsman and spent most days off over the years on a lake water skiing and boating. I went to multi-day air shows a couple times a year. I almost never wore sunglasses or a shirt when out. I have lived longer than I expected as most do, as so wish I had thought of my later years during my younger years. My doctor said that not wearing polarized sunglasses likely contributed to why I have to get shots in my eyes and poor vision now. Something to think about...

The new house is really shaping up. Good to see Jericho and the crew. Iko-Bear doing her happy dance to see Mom and Dad coming home after a hard day at work! So cute. It is hard to fathom how folks just don’t seem to give a second thought to littering up this beautiful world we live in. Hopefully, they will grow older and wiser along the way. Ok couldn't resist doing 1st comment lol 🥇 for the "litter picking" as we call it this side of the big pond. Sad it's so much, hope mindsets of more people soon change. Is there a threat of fines or info signs why not to trash nature, guess wouldn't dissuade unless CCTV cams. Once stayed on a houseboat on the Norfolk Broads, England, (& following yr on a boat for a wk) loved it there I was a teen & wanted to move there & work at a boat yard/marina, you may want to check it out it's mostly rivers, with 5 or 7? mph speed limit, much manmade from centuries ago. Oh these many pubs (all serve meals) on the Broards you can moor up along side I think most if not all for free. Y'all have a lovely w/e at your lovely lake 🌲🏞️🚣🏼‍♀️🐾🌲 [edit wasn't comment when started writing it 🤣]

Yes let’s hope mindsets change! I think they are, it’s just a slow process & will take a few generations. There’s actually a sign right at the beginning of our mile that says “littering fines up to $1000” but… yea, doesn’t seem to scare anyone. Are you talking about the canal system? We follow someone who lives on a narrowboat & travels the canals! Looks very cool 🥰

Enjoyed your video, another good one! Your builder I noticed had a little floating pole roof thing, that looked like it was for putting extra material on, that was really neat. Iko seems to do ok by herself when ya'll have to go somewhere that she can't go, but she sure is excited to see you get back home, Bless Her Little Heart!! Brandon did a good job taking over the video there towards the end. I had to pick up trash here in Arkansas when I worked for the Highway dept. I'll be honest we did it on the highway when people were driving 60 and 70 just a few feet from us. Saw a car loose control and roll over just behind us where we had just walked to pick the trash up. Been retired now about 4 years, don't miss it at all!!

Yea we call that the “party hut 🛖” ! It belongs to the marina, not sure what it was originally for but it’s handy for these projects, plus we’re gonna put a band on it for our floating wedding 😅 Oh I don’t blame you! doing something regularly for a job is much more draining than doing it periodically by choice haha. Either way though thank you for doing it!! 🗑️ ♻️

It is really sad how many slobby people are around. Thanks again for cleaning up trash. My old job we would have someone pick up along the road of our property and pretty much filled a trash can every single day..

I lived when everyone threw every kind of trash out their window. It is my pet peeve when people roll down their window and throw out trash. Our current situation is 1000 times better then in the past. Slobs pollute and throw out their junk food.

I definitely think it’s getting better! Will probably take a couple more generations but eventually littering will be super taboo & social pressures alone will keep people from doing it. Not sure that’ll be in our lifetime but here’s to hoping!!

Great job on the highway cleanup, and cool to see the progress on the other floating house! I don’t think any of the lakes or reservoirs in my state have floating homes. Tons of harbors and docks attached to properties on land where the homes are, but no permanent floating homes. Maybe because all bodies of water deeply freeze solid for most of the winter here in Idaho?

Thanks!! Almost no bodies of water allow floating homes, it’s pretty rare to find one that does unfortunately. More to do with issues with zoning or environmental laws than freezing - I have seen a few on lakes that freeze over, but I can’t remember where! Minnesota maybe?

It’s disgusting that people throw trash out their car windows. Once years ago I saw a van of people throwing all their food trash out the car windows. I gave them hell for a few miles how dumb it was and I was surprised they did shoot at me. The house looking good!

They have a turn in a litterer program in Tennessee. If you see someone littering you can turn them in. Granted they only get a letter but it makes me feel better.

Better than nothing! Too bad they don’t get a fine. I think over time it will continue being less “cool” or normal to litter, just like smoking, till it becomes taboo. Social norms tend to be a much better motivator than laws for most people, for better or worse
