Thanks for this demo/review. It's hard to find Finke horns to try, so this helps fill the gap.

Thanks for doing this. No one else has so many horns in a review series

Never knew what the purpose of a triple horn was. Pretty cool thanks for this

I contacted them to make a Concert pitch version of this instrument in C Alto, F Alto, & C Super Alto. They would have to cut off alot of Tubing so that it sounds as written, & it would be lighter weight.

Rob, thanks for another amazing video. How did you find the high register on the High F side? Say for Berlioz Queen Mab or something like that? Just curious. Be safe and be well

It's also a compensating Horn because the 3 sets of Tubes are different lengths to compensate for the key you're in.

Yes and no. Three different lengths of tubing for each key: yes. However they do not work in tandem, not a compensating system, it’s a full triple. The air only goes through one set of tubes at a time depending on what thumb lever you have depressed.

Do you own all these horns? Which one is tour favorite?

Braden. Brass I own a few of the instruments, they’re all quite nice, I’m not sure what my favorite one is.

thanks for the great videos. will you be playing any schmid horns?

copenhagenup unfortunately I haven’t had access to any Schmid horns. Hopefully when things get better, I can try to get my hands on one.

@@robertlevine1093 I play a Conn 8D currently, but am finding the upper register tight. Do you think I would be better off with a Paxman 20L?
@robertlevine10934 жыл бұрын
copenhagenup I also play a Conn 8D, the upper register can be tight, but I think you may have the same issues with a Paxman 20L, as it’s also a large bore horn, similar to the Conn 8D.
@robertlevine10934 жыл бұрын
copenhagenup When things get better, go and try horns at a shop. Explain the issue (Conn 8D feels tight in the upper register), and ask for something smaller perhaps. Be sure to warm up on your normal horn first, and then go to the stuff you’re wanting to try. Scales, arpeggios and general maintenance things are good ways to test horns to make sure they play in tune with the sound type you’re looking for. Etudes and excerpts are also good to play on any instrument you’re trying. Take your time and don’t rush, testing horns can be a lengthy process. Good luck!

Hi, I just bought a used Finke descant Bb/high F. On my double horn I use a Yamaha 30C4 mouthpiece. But on the Finke on the high F side the mouthpiece is not very accurate. I want to try another kind of mouthpiece but do not know what is more appropriate for a descant horn. Can you give me some advice? Is it possible to have a warm tone in the Bb side as well as a bright tone on the high F?
@robertlevine10934 жыл бұрын
I would suggest a MP with a more shallow cup to aid in the higher playing. Typically Hi F plays brighter than Bb, and some people who don’t care for that tend to use Hi Eb in place of Hi F. Englebert Schmid has a whole thing on it through his website I believe. The Finke triple and descant horns are made with Hi Eb slides to use in place of the Hi F. Try experimenting and see what works for you!
