Nanny with 20 years of experience here. Cutting out a nap is totally fine at her age if she’s still getting plenty of sleep at night. If she’s getting cranky mid day, consider some “quiet time”. Maybe watch a show & read or some other restful activity. Be sure to keep her hydrated & have snacks between meals too. All of that helps to dial down the crankiness as she (& you!) adjust to not having a mid day nap. Good luck & hang in there!

I'm facing the same with my just over 2 years old If she hasn't napped she'll fall asleep at 7:30ish or then with a nap it's whenever she feel tired after😅 9:30 -11! But the nap I'm trying to keep it cas when your expecting again You'll get tired abit more in the 1st trimester n can feel like you need a nap aswell

Mashallah loving the house updates! I’d highly recommend putting a gate around the pool even a temporary one even if it’s not aesthetically pleasing and also an alarm on the doors that lead to the backyard so you know if someone stepped out. This was required in our old housing community and gives peace of mind especially with little ones.
@Withloveleenaofficial2 жыл бұрын
Yesss we will definitely be putting a gate! I don’t care about aesthetics it won’t be forever!!

It's very normal in many Australian homes where the swimming pool is "gated" using glass panels. Looks nice too. It's for safety and avoid any creepy crawlers from entering their pool.

Hey Leena, my daughter is just one month older than yours and we cut out her afternoon nap about 7-8 months back. We found she didn’t need it, was really fighting it so we just cut it out of her daily routine. She sleeps a good 12-13 hours at night too because of this. But what I do with her is that during the afternoon, I’ll have quiet time with her. She reads, draws or even watches something with me while I take a small break from work. This routine has calmed her down and she knows afternoons are a time to rest too. Children emulate us, so another thing you can try is leading by example. During afternoons, when she reads or draws, do the same thing yourself. I read when my daughter is reading or drawing and if she tries to draw my attention, I give her a hug and cuddle but don’t really engage much. Over time she has understood that it’s Mamma’s rest time too. Hope this helps!

swimming is so important for young kids, especially if you have a pool, I don’t know exactly what it’s called but there are some swim lessons that specialize is teaching young kids how to get to shore/edge if they are in the water and are starting to drown I know you all have some experience with young children and drowning and know how important it is. So sad how often it happens with young kids.

I love your videos. Your home is coming along nicely! So excited for you! I am a director at a private school. As long as she is thriving with no naps then she is fine to not take naps. If you plan on taking her to a preschool any time in the future just know that schools require children to have a rest time for at least an hour all the way until kindergarten. That doesn’t mean she has to nap. Most kids 3 and older usually don’t nap. Kids that don’t nap can be trained to prepare a rest time at school fairly easy with a transition to a nap mat with only a couple weeks before school starts. You are doing a great job with her. Just enjoy her. My daughter just got married and the other is away at college. I miss them but excited for them. Don’t listen to the naysayers. All that matters is that you and your husband are in unity and are delighting in your daughter. Delighting can’t happen at 11 pm at night 🤣

So glad y’all are doing swim lessons! They were non negotiable in our house as we live close to the coast and I wanted my kids, as teens, to go have fun with their friends and be safe. One of our kids loves the water, the other not so much. Either way though-they can swim! Also I remember when my kids went through growth spurts they cut out naps for a while, and then after a time returned to them. We used quiet time for an hour in the afternoon to help! Barbies in bed we called it and I would read and then we would make our Barbie’s go to the “park’ and slide down our legs. 😊

I think as long as Alaina is getting the sleep she needs that's what matters! All kids are different. My oldest daughter stopped taking naps around two as well and it worked for her. Alaina is healthy and happy and that's the goal!

Alaina’s nap situation reminds me of my daughter 10 years ago when she was 2 and a half. I couldn’t get her to nap at home anymore but she was in preschool a few times a week and I figured at least she was napping there. A few months later one of the teachers said I’m glad she naps at home because she never naps in school. So yeah that’s was it for naps for her 😂

I highly recommend putting a fence around the pool even if she knows how to swim. You never know what can happen. May Allah protect all of us from such tragedies. It’s a mesh fence specific to the pool and you can choose between 5 or 6 ft tall. Although it is mesh it is very secure bc it is drilled into cement and there are metal poles a few ft apart throughout the entirety of the fence. I implemented the fence after we purchased the house before the sellers even moved out. I was like sorry, I’m not risking my kids, I need it done before we move in. We chose the 6 ft fence just to make it as difficult as possible for my kids bc they’re climbers.

I am a mom but definitely no expert. I think it’s best to do what works for you and the baby. If no naps work better, then don’t put her down for a nap. I never really had my kids lay downs for a nap at that age. If they were tired and laid down themselves, I let them take a nap, and if they weren’t, then I let them stay up. My son took naps until he was three/ four though.

I had the same problem with my daughter ( she is 3 now) and I cut the nap too and it has been life changing ! It has been a year and she is doing great ! I grew up in Africa and I know that most of my family over there don't understand the concept of nap time 🤣. They let the babies sleep if they want to and really I feel like it's most suitable for some toddlers. I mean even us adults are different in terms of sleep schedule so why are we expecting babies to be like robots who all do the same thing ?

I have a 2.5 year old and naps are a hit and miss for us. If it works for your family and she sleeps better than I think it’s totally fine to cut out naps but I’m no expert either. I feel like you’ll receive a lot of opinions and you just need to do what works for her and your family. I’m potty training now and there are tons of opinions but we are just rolling with what works for my daughter. There are no right and wrong approaches. You’re doing great, don’t doubt yourself - I know easier said than done. 😅
