You simply unfold it, he hasn't soldered it to the board or anything; just making it compact so it fits into the super sneaky USB battery encasing.

To make it even stealthier, you could insert a 1.5v button cell inside and wire it to the AA's terminals so it will still work as a battery if anyone tries it.

DO NOT construct objects for everyday use from toxic waste. The inside of a battery is quite unhealthy if in contact with skin. I would not recommend to handle the final product without protection. Even if it is cleaned well, there are still toxic remnants. Batteries are not made for being opened!
@PeterKwanvt809 жыл бұрын
A non alkaline cell as used here doesn't pose much chemical risk. The most dangerous chemical is even allowable as a food additive. Look up E510.

@solittleusernames12 жыл бұрын
Both of you are right kind of. Magnets can erase Floppy drives and really powerful magnets can erase the hard drive memory but you could only find such magnets in laboratories or probably some gov. agency. The magnets inside the Hard drive aren't enough to erase the memory, and flash drives (as in this case) can't have their memory erased with an magnet.
@jesper140610 жыл бұрын
Or take a bigger battery, where the hole thing fits into.
@Agouti10 жыл бұрын
Far, FAR better to just hide a micro-SD card somewhere and have a USB reader for it in your drawer/laptop bag. An equally viable alternative is some password protected online storage such as DropBox or a myriad of others. Hell, doesn't even matter if you have a drive that is easy to find just encrypt the important stuff or put it in a password protected .rar or .7z
@Agouti10 жыл бұрын
Unless a weak password was used (short/ vulnerable to dictionary attack) or you have some insane SHA256/AES hashing rig it will take a long time: Mixed case, numbers and some easy symbols makes 80 different characters, 10 chars long 80^10 = .1.1e19, at a reasonable 300 Million Hash per sec it would take 160 years to hit every combination. Regardless, a Micro-SD is still easier to hide than some jerry-rigged USB drive - you only need to hide the data, not the interface,
@einanton59969 жыл бұрын
Agouti Or you just use the backdoor.... in like 20 seconds?!

I know it's a very old vid but a very cool idea. Got 1 thing that might be wrong here and that the wire connections from the USB to the board. Seem to be flipped (2:28 yellow on the top) so it doesn't work. Better would be to wrap the wire around the board and have the connector hang on the other side.
@soupflood11 жыл бұрын
Carbon is not dangerous, unless you inhale the powder. The battery has some acid in it though. Covering the memory board with hot glue would probably prolonge its life a bit more.

USB: Ultimately Secret Battery
@rsgodcraftriot761311 жыл бұрын
No, that's a flash drive, or "electrical memory," you're talking about hard drives which is "magnetic memory," which when exposed to magnets would cause magnetic misalignment and corrupted memory.
@Rikaisan10 жыл бұрын
the magnet will errase the stuff....
@TheMelonLover6410 жыл бұрын
in usb sticks are flash chips and they aren`t based on magnetic technologie
@mitsuman00710 жыл бұрын
TheMelonLover64 Not to mention you could stick that magnet to the side of a HDD as well without any damage. Not everything is as volatile as old floppys were.
@Cpzirk10 жыл бұрын
iamtehstig ACTUALLY Platter hard drives ARE HIGHLY sensitive to magnetic radiation... BUT all drives these days are shielded against magnetic radiation, so your right, but wrong at the same time!
@mitsuman00710 жыл бұрын
Well I didn't mean take it apart to do it. That would be a bit extreme. With the platters and write/read arm exposed you would have way more problems than just a magnet being too close.

I want to point something out to some people like Cormalek and MrGamebase32: Magnets do NOT affect flash storage media. They work by storing electrical charges, not by magnetic particles in the way that hard drives, floppy disks, and tape media do. Magnets do not affect flash drives, CD's, or solid-state drives.

@DarkChief8 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea but Wat if someone gets hold of it and thinks it's a battery won't it do anything to the usb
@nixietubes8 жыл бұрын
it won't do anything directly to the usb, but what it will do is anyone using it will think it's dead, then throw it out, where it gets taken by the garbage truck, then thrown into the dump, where it will be eventauly incinerated, effectively losing your usb.
@surfcello11 жыл бұрын

Actually magnets do not effect electronics like many people seem to think, it would take an electromagnet that can power up to about 30 Gauss to mess up that card, which most magnets that you can get can only do maybe 2-5 Gauss. The only thing low end magnets like that can effect are vhs tapes and old floppy disk no one uses anymore.
@christophermball12 жыл бұрын
If you went a bit further with creativity here, you could have engineered a hinged battery cap end with a spring-loaded USB connector of sorts, that way you wouldn't need to pull the cap off (and lose it), followed by pulling the entire PCB out of its housing in order to use the device.
