Walken worked for me just because the Emperor, for all his buildup, is just kind of a sad old man. He's nothing like the Empeor from Star Wars. He's not imposing, hes just a figure head.
@Malky52796 ай бұрын
He was fine to me. Walken always has a slightly off kilter and other worldly air to him, if anything I don't think they leaned into his ability to play unpredictable and odd characters enough. I mean the traditional Walken dance was probably out, although I'd like to see any deleted scene where he did a King of New York style dance.

I’ve always wanted a home theater, but dune part 2 made me realize that I need a home theater if I ever want to enjoy it again out of theaters. And on the George RR Martin stuff y’all brought up, that keeps me up at night. One of my favorite book series is the Wheel of Time which was written by Robert Jordan until he died and Brandon Sanderson wrote the last three books. I absolutely love the series and I think Sanderson did a great job and he’s gone on to have a successful and prolific fantasy career, but even he’s admitted that he took three books to really get to know some of the characters. There will always be that question of what would Jordan have done if he finished the series? I feel like if Martin doesn’t finish his series before he dies we will always wonder what he could’ve done with it and it could be a shame.

"Willy's Chocolate Experience" reminds me of the UK, Lapland "Winter Wonderland" scam where people turned up to be faced with a field of garden sheds, a model of adeer and surley "elves". Such scams are not uncommon. The brothers behind 'Lapland' were from Brighton. The local press (The Argus) reported, "Within days of the attraction opening in November 2008, hundreds of disgruntled visitors to the park on the Hampshire-Dorset border complained to trading standards officials that they had been ripped off".

I was ok with Alia not appearing except I kind of had to ignore the timeline. In the book, Paul and Jessica spend years with the Fremen, living (or, if we’re honest, infiltrating). It means that he’s spent years convincing people of his Messiah bonafides. The change to Alia means that they did it in like a few months? I’ve had to kind of just ignore it in my head, since I otherwise loved the movie. 😂
@NintendoConsoleGamer7 ай бұрын
I'm ok with the timeline, in the movie it played like a mass fanatical fervor that quickly accelerated out of control
@prolastmedia61716 ай бұрын
Yeah the decision to keep Aliyah in the womb definitely damaged the integrity of the story for me, not because I'm a book purist or anything, but because of the timeline you mentioned. I don't care how accelerated the religious fervor was - it literally doesnt make sense for all these events to be happening within only 9 months - theres no way that Paul found the Fremen, became an expert in their ways, learned how to ride sandworms, started sleeping with Chani, ended Rebans reign over Arakis, established a rivalry with Fayd Rautha, and created enough trouble to pester the Galactic Emperor, etc - all over the course of less than 9 months. It legitimately doesnt make sense. And also, taking Paul's time away from the Fremen makes his intentions seem less pure, in the book it was very clear that Paul was not "infiltrating" but genuinely coexisting with the Fremen, he took on Jamis' wife and children, married Chani and had a son with her, became almost a surrogate to Stilgar, even Stilgar and Lady Jessica had a romantic will they, wont they going on. Id argue that for all they did to make it clear that Paul was not a white savior, having Paul become the master of the Fremen in less than 9 months without truly intergrating makes him seem like a white savior. Plus, Aliyah is a major part of the Dune story, im not really sure how they ever plan on adapting Dune Messiah or Children of Dune since they essentially ruined Aliyahs character - the cool thing about Aliyah is that she isnt inherently some evil, demon baby - shes born and shes actually really sweet and loving and although she has the mind of an adult, shes not evil or antagonistic at all, the Fremen are scared of her but she earns the readers trust over time, especially in Dune Messiah, which is what makes it so tragic when she gets overwhelmed by the spirits of her Harkonen ancestors, Aliyah is a good person but she is literally crushed by the weight of her memories and turned into something shes not, this is why Aliyahs story ends by her unaliving herself in a moment of clarity in Children of Dune - TLDR the fact that they made her like an evil spawn off the bat completely destroys her character, makes me believe Villenuve is going to completely depart from the source material in his third movie. Also, Chani being angry with Paul at the end wouldve been way better if it was because she was grieving over the loss of their son Leto like in the book, and not cuz she was jealous of Paul "marrying" the princess - marriage is a custom that doesn't even mean the same thing in Fremen culture, Chani getting jealous and running away was a little cheesy compared to Chani being devastated that Paul's war cost her the life of her first born son. Loved Dune 2 and Im not a book purist but i feel like some of the changes took a lot of important weight from the story
@prolastmedia61716 ай бұрын
@@NintendoConsoleGamer The book events are better for the most part, especially for the sake of the storys future - there are certain major storylines now that are completely destroyed cuz of the changes in this movie. Man I do not understand the near universal love of Dune 2. I went into it really wanting to enjoy it and felt like it was a bunch of nonsense jammed together in 30 second scenes with no explanation for what people are doing. Batista spends the first half of the movie losing to the Freman only for Austin Butler to find their secret hideout and blow it up while they were all gone. No reason to believe he was more capable of this than Batista but he just did it. Paul had almost no motivation to lean into his prophecy and told Zendaya he wasn't going south and then decided he would and then just dove into being a prick. Then they lead up to this exciting big fun battle, do it for a few seconds, then jump right into the next thing. It really felt like it was made to be able to easily put on tik tok or something. Also the whole bit they talk about where the director is good at not using dialogue to express things feels wrong when this movie literally has the mother talking to her unborn child about her desire to manipulate people into following paul and the next scene he's laying with zendaya talking about how his mother is being weird. Could have cut that out and given that 30 seconds to another scene so we could better sit in some of the heavier moments instead of moving into the next cool visual

It's human skin, that's why we use green/blue screen to edit out backgrounds. There's very little to none found (normally) in the typical hue, so in the olden days it was much easier to select that chroma key and set it as your replaced background. Unfortunately due to reflections, bounced light and so forth, you'd occasionally get an object that was suddenly "missing" as it would randomly match the selected background key.

Overrated. The people who think this film is a “masterpiece” are over selling this film. It’s funny: just because a film plays on an IMAX screen with good sound, the film is good - No. A film is good if you watch it on an iPhone and it, still, find it exciting; or it breaks-your-heart; and/or makes you think about what you watched hours, after you finished the film. I’ve read all six books - one thru four twice - and the Dune story is not about action; which many people think this story is what makes it good. No. Because I’ve read the first book, twice, I know what’s missing & why this version of Dune is not a good representation of the story & plots of Dune. I like part 1 better. It’s closer to what I love about the book. And how lucky for, Denis, that he has the technology of CGI to bring a good looking film to the screen. It looks good - won’t deny that - Geidi Prime is my favorite section; after we leave that planet, I got bored. Honestly, the only actors who kept my attention was Charlotte Rampling & Lea Seydoux. Geidi Prime was the best part of the film. Butler kept my attention, while on the planet; on Arrakis, he didn’t. He became one note and boring. I like Chalamet & Zendaya. They gave what was needed. But as the movie bored me, so did the characters (and by extension… the actors).

I was disappointed by these Dune films. They made the universe feel too pedestrian, when it is anything but, and made the universe feel really small. All in attempt to make it feel "real" [eye roll]. On top of all of that, it looked like a bowl of oatmeal with the occasional explosion. They had an opportunity make something that was aesthetically unique, but instead they leaned hard into the Bedouin & Middle Eastern cultural appropriation that lined Herbert's books. Do better Hollywood. I also hate that they cast Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya as Paul and Chani. Neither of them felt like the characters they were supposed to be playing and the dialogue between the two of them felt contemporary to our own world. These are characters who have experienced incredible things, like Chani growing up on Arrakis with the Fremen, but they both sound like they're at Coachella sharing a joint. Do I believe this Paul would become the Emperor from Dune Messiah? Absolutely not. I will say that Chalamet's acting got better in between films, but not by much. I'm wary of a sequel film, because the Dune books only get weirder, yet Villeneuve is hellbent on making these films as approachable and mundane as possible. Don't get me wrong, I like most of his films. That being said, his vision for this world was misplaced. Saying dialogue is for tv and stage, and that he can't remember any good lines from films, is ludicrous. You know which films I can't remember a single line from? Denis's. Sure, I remember scenes, but try to piece together the plot beat-for-beat of Arrival solely from memory and you'll find it's a near impossible task. I first read the Dune books when I was 8 years old growing up in the 90's. I've waited so long to see them brought to life in live action and each iteration seems to always miss the mark. I mean how is Villeneuve going to do the appearance of a Guild Navigator, like in Dune Messiah? I shudder to think. I hope they recast Paul and fire the art director. I want bizarre Dune, like the Axlotl Tanks or Chairdogs. Not a teen love drama incidentally set in a sci-fi universe.
