It's so funny how context dependent this issue is and how much the execution matters to me. While I'd prefer if Keaton's Batman wasn't a killer, it doesn't stop me from loving those movies or that interpretation of the character because all of the elements in those films come together to make something fun, interesting, and enjoyable. I think the tone goes a *long* way there as well because those movies take place in this super heightened "fairy tale" kind of reality in a way that's almost weightless. Then there's Nolan, who is *actually* doing what Snyder is pretending he's doing, and pushing Batman to the point where he has to bend and even break his rule which really suits the grounded reality of those films. Bruce learns a lesson in letting Ra's die that serves his arc in that movie. He makes a panicked sacrifice to save a child and kills Harvey, which is MUCH more akin to that scene in TDKR that Snyder is referencing IMO. (I have no justification for Talia or burning down the League of Shadows. Reckless Bruce, do better) Snyder's Batman is just the Punisher in a cape, and the violence in those movies goes completely un-interrogated or explored in any meaningful or interesting way beyond "I just think it's silly that the man in the cape doesn't do big murders all the time" and I think that's ultimately the sticking point for me. Idk, that's a lot of words, sorry everyone!

Agreed, whether a superhero kills or not is incosequential to the quality of the piece of art he is in. Snyder's movies would be as bad if Batman was not a psychopatic murderer and SUperman did not kill Zod.

There have been comic book examples where the heroes were put in a no-win scenario and couldn't hack the system. Prime example being Hickman's Avengers leading into Secret Wars, and it was phenomenal. The problem with Zack Snyder (and I say this as a former Snyder fan) is that he's not smart enough to do that kind of storytelling justice. He tried to put Superman in that scenario in Man of Steel, an idea I like in theory, but it was so poorly executed. Snyder wanted us to think that Superman had no other choice but to kill Zod but there were so many other options. A. The family had plenty of room to run but they inexplicably decided to just huddle in that corner. B. Superman could've flown Zod into the air C. Superman could've covered Zod's eyes with his hand. (This would've hurt like hell, but it would've been exactly the kind of thing Superman would do) Zack Snyder reminds me of a teenage boy. He has all these ideas that are completely unrefined and often stem from a lack of understanding of the characters he's working with. And the real tragedy is that he could be a true visionary if he would just get out of his own way.

ALSO: at no point in that fucking dumb wreck of a movie was Clark taught not to kill, which *really* undercuts the shock value Snyder the teenage edgelord was going for. What a hack. "Isn't it crazy that he killed?!?" Well, Snyder... no. Because he was taught to let innocent children die to protect his secret, since he wasn't taught the sanctity of human life, he probably has no rule against killing. At every point Snyder's like "he's so edgy, man, this isn't YOUR Superman, it's MY Superman, an EDGY Superman"... and then at the end he's like "OH MY GOD HE KILLED!!! AREN'T YOU SHOCKED!!!" What a hack.

Yeah I think the biggest issue with Batman and comics in general is there are 80 years worth of stories and bad writers feel the need to shock people and push things to the edge so they have the Joker do absolutely heinous shit or even one story where the joker gets the death penalty and Batman has to save him at the end. It just makes him seem like an idiot when in reality, he just doesn't think he deserves to be judge, juror and executioner.

Is there any particular reason for DB being so relevant to South American countries?
@raf.raf.9 ай бұрын
@@spartanB0292 I don't know if there's a specific reason. It could be just good timing and a good product. I was born in 1991, and in my childhood we just didn't have many quality options as far as animation goes, specially on open (non cable/satellite) tv. Before anime (and during it's first broadcast years) children programming would be basically game shows (like those nickelodeon ones, but way simpler), Chavo del Ocho (which is also huge here) and those old looney tunes style cartoons. So anime was really impressive and way more complex, animation-wise but also plot-wise. And I think Dragon Ball (specially Dragon Ball Z) was part of this first wave. It was just awesome, and really violent, which made it WAY cooler in my mind at the time. There were other big anime at the time who still have huge fanbases nowadays, like Saint Seya and Yu Yu Hakusho (this one due to the incredible dub, full of regionalisms and local expressions), but I'd say that Dragon Ball is by far the one that had the most impact. For context, I'm Brazilian.
@ulises42419 ай бұрын
@@spartanB0292 back then (and even today) most Latin American Tv station didn't have the budget for animated shows, so most of them would import them from other countries. While Latin America did get USA shows like thundercats, gi joe, He-man they were episodic shows, with little to no character development or continuum story. That's where anime was different, it had story arcs, character development, and im just gonna say it, Latinos love novelas, and most animes are just animated novelas haha. in many ways, japanese culture is more similar to latin america culture than Japanese is to usa culture. Also, Dragon Ball had an amazing dub, in the USA, the names of attacks were change, the OG japanese music was change, new dialoged was added and some characters personalities where modified. All that in order to make it more ''American'. here in latin America all the og music was keep, the attacks were not rename, so much more was closer to the original. I could go on and on on the many reasons Dragon Ball being so popular in Latin ameica but ill leave it at that hah

Full disclaimer I didn't listen to the Joe Rogan interview. But taking them at their word. He says he wants to see what happens if batman kills because him not killing is cannon. It sounds like to me he's trying to deconstruct batman and try something possible subversive and new. I think to properly deconstruct something you have to understand what it is you are deconstructing. For example his watchmen adaptation I think completely missed the point that super heroes in real life would probably be sad kinda pathetic people with hangups and mental illnesses that shouldn't be idealized. But like every action shot from the murder scene to the sex in the owl plane scene is trying to make them look cool. I'd argue he either doesn't care, or missed the point. Either way it leads to what I believe to be a sub par product. I feel like this is a chronic problem for him. What he's saying could be interesting. But I don't think he... Thinks it through... Or understands it enough to execute his vision competently? That's just my opinion. A person who keeps on giving him chances and watching his movies even though I hate most of them. Ymmv

@@BunkBeazyand they kinda mention this. Ok so batman kills. What did you avtually do with that in your stories? I'd argue not much. So to me it feels like he's trying to be subversive, doesn't quite know what he's trying to subvert, and then fails in execution. He should 100 percent make movies with his views. And I definitely couldn't do better. But his movies keep getting reviewed poorly and I think they all stem from the same problem. He doesn't look far enough outside his world view and doesn't ever get past the "this would be cool" phase to actually do anything interesting with the material.

It’s a miracle he keeps making such massive budget movies. At some point someone’s gonna stop giving him insane money right? Right????

40:31 This is a great point, and I can't believe I never thought of that. That should really end the conversation right there. Why did Snyder put his "god" in the position where he would not kill the man who murdered his ward?

I’ve been saying this since 2013: Zack Snyder’s ego is so inflated it’s nauseating. He makes movies about CGI men in tights punching each other, it’s not the retelling of the Bible and acting like he’s a “misunderstood” auteur because he tries and fails to make entertaining movies is so misguided. He needs to make movies that don’t need a 7 hour directors cut or plans for four sequels in order for us to enjoy them

I refuse to believe that Zack Snyder understands anything. I think he’s learnt how to do and make things, but has no idea why any of it does or doesn’t work. His explanations are almost always completely surface level.

How dare you call In-n-Out a dirty burger! They use real ingredients and cook in an open kitchen so you can see what is going on. Sure, it's still packed with fat, but it's natural fat and they wrap it so you can use the paper to keep your fingers from getting messy. Honestly. In-n-Out is one of the last fast food places that actually gives you real food in exchange for your money instead of trying to feed you whatever cheap animal products meet the FDA description of meat.

I came into dbz when goku was on namek he was in the bacta tank. I was hooked. Dragon ball was awesome. Then new ones. I'm not sure what ppl think of it anymore . It was popular in the late 90s but then suddenly dbz was baby anime. The anime that losers watch. Loved dragon ball, too. Thank you for the laughs, guys . Im so glad i came into this show 7 years late. It's amazing background noise for my a.d.d. doesn't matter if it was yesterday or 7 years ago.

Fun fact during the production of super Mario’s brothers movie there was a persistent glitch animators were working with which pushed their crunch time even further & was causing a tint through out the animation leading to its nickname on set of blue harvest

The true lore behind waluigi and wario is wario hated Mario and Luigi and wanted to be the bad version of mario and Luigi so he hires a struggling character actor named Jimmy Papadopalis and made him legally change his name to waluigi and pretend to be his evil brother…I saw that in an old Nintendo book that they used to sell so you could get the lore for the characters
