That look on Amity's face when she realizes what Luz was going through all day is one of my favorite pieces of show don't tell animation. You can tell she's torn between feeling horrified that she potentially opened a wound and has no idea how to respond as her own anger at the situation is washed away by the new information. One extra meaning I rarely see anyone catch when Alador says "Edalyn's kid?" Is that he didn't say "the human kid?" Didn't even cross his mind. Which going back kind of implies he wouldn't have cared that Willow was a late bloomer magically and it was all Odalia's problem but he didn't contradict her for ...reasons. And something I've _never_ seen anyone mention is that little bit at the very end. Vee. She's in her natural form. When she's at home she feels no need to hide who she is and Camilla's completely comfortable with the sweet little basilisk girl she's adopted. I absolutely adore this episode both for the massive amounts of character growth for multiple members of the cast and for how they portrayed Luz's grief. The only other show I can think of that handled the subject so well was the last season of Young Justice where Clark had his own breakdown over Conner's death when they had to explain his absence to Jonathan.
@WeeLassReacts2 жыл бұрын
Good shout about Alador!!! I never picked up on that!!! @@WeeLassReacts Guess I've watched one too many hide the alien/monster/wierd thing about our family shows. It just felt like a breath of fresh air to see Vee normalized. But yeah you're totally right that it would be wierd for her to be impersonating Luz when everyone present knows she not her.

His reasons are likely family oriented. When it comes to parenting many families operate with the idea that the parents need to be on the same wavelength. Cuz if they’re not, it makes discipline difficult if they can’t even agree on one, how can they teach the kids? This has a bad effect if one of the parents are overbearing, toxic, or abusive. Kids will be placed in a scenario where they’re treated poorly and the mediator parent is left to siding with the bad influence, even when it’s wrong. They think it’s the best for the family, keeps the peace, makes the spouse happy, teaches the kid good life lessons. It might even be about allowing that parent to be the one who “raises” the kid while they focus on other things (job/financial security for the kids, in Alador’s case).

We also know that in the show, people often misremember things in the flashbacks we see. The knowledge about her father really recontextualises a lot about Luz's character. Her mom is a single parent trying her best to raise this kid, probably working overtime at her job in order to make ends meet. How lonely do you think Luz felt? How many nights did she spend in that house by herself? How unnoticed did she feel? How much of her acting out and causing trouble at school was a cry for help? Only for it to backfire and leave her with no friends, labelled as 'weird' and someone that the school thought needed to be 'fixed'. Luz really is the sort of the person who *seems* like she wears her heart on her sleeve, but in reality pushes down and buries and hides her negative feelings because she doesn't want to burden those around her. (To clarify, I'm not saying that Camilla is a bad parent or anything, far from it, she was doing the best she could with a bad hand)

One of the nice aspects of the show is that almost none of the characters are static. You get a lot of shows where the characters have their defining personality trait, and that's just kind of... it. My favorite part of the Lumity ship is the way they support each other. The adorableness is a very close second; but the way that Luz helps Amity to grow out of the Bonsai Child mold Odalia had her stuck in, and Amity actually gets Luz to open up about her own problems and allow herself to be supported. This episode (and episode 11) are both perfect examples of the latter, too: Luz doesn't want to worry people, and her way of dealing with her own problems is to bury herself in tasks, or project and try to help others instead (first trying to help Kiki go home, and then over-zealously trying to help Amity make this connection with her dad). In both cases, Amity first gives her space, and then - once it becomes clear Luz is avoiding something that's bothering her - addressing that directly through dialogue. They are *very* good for each other. And I fucking love it!
@millytheotterlover16802 жыл бұрын
One thing I really like about episode 11 is they didn't have Amity watch the video. They avoided the cliche drama of her seeing the video and then getting mad at Luz for lying to her. It's a really well done episode, mixing humor and strong emotions and letting us see Luz make mistakes that are bad(like lying/keeping the truth from others) but also fully fit her personality(not wanting to worry others, not wanting to stress over it, trying to only focus on the positives). Also, Dana has stated in the past that the higher ups initially wanted Luz to present in a more feminine style, like with a dress/skirt type of outfit and her answer was pretty much: "No. I made this character in this style for a reason. I'm not changing who she is."

At this point I shouldn't be surprised that you remembered Edric's bat. Btw, I find very interesting that Emira is pretty much the same person and she wasn't covering much (just pimples and a bad hair day, it was basically make-up), but Edric was revealed to be a pretty insecure person and his whole attire changed. It kinda feels like Ed was suprising this part of him and showing this perfect persona, and I can't help but thinking that Odalia had something to do with it.

No! In the "Snowy Episode", they found the bat. And he said, if they weren't going to eat it, he wanted to keep it. HOW COULD YOU EAT SOMETHING SO ADORABLE!!!

Life's been a shitshow lately, so it’s taken me a while to comment here, but This is the episode that convinced me that the crew is aware of the fact that we been knew about the Floriography thing. The flowers that are shown in relation to Luz's dad are 1.) Yellow Tulips (Baby!Luz pic) which means 'There's Sunshine in Your Smile.' 2.) Periwinkle (Tween!Luz) "Happy Memories" 3. Anemone (The flowers Luz grows and sends flying) "Lost Love" 4. Hibiscus (Camila's flower in the vase) "You Belong Here"

You'll see other pictures with Eda, Lilith, the Blights, Darius, sometimes even Gus's dad in them. They all went to school at the same time. If you go back to when Eda and Lilith were supposed to duel to get into the Emperors Coven, Odalia and Alador are sitting together in the background.

My favorite episode! This one is the best at uniting all the storylines. So incredibly well written

You are pretty good at predicting this show: first V`s origin and now her dad`s funeral. These kind of emotional episodes i can only watch one at a time. Guten Rutsch.

This episode is an absolute pain for me. My absolute biggest fear is death and my loved ones dying, and when I have 4 grandparents, it’s only a matter of time, and it terrifies me. This episode just makes me think of that and it hurts, just a hit to the heart

Can't wait for the finale, when Belos uses a bird to try and abduct King, but the safety-hover glyph saves him.

The code word for this episode is 'Rush', leaving the message at 'Seething Seas and Puppet Strings, He No Longer Dreams of Kings. As Above Rush-" and you've made it to the next episode title word 'Fear', leaving that message at 'Seek The Key, Fear-' And yes, that was Darius in the photo!

When the abomination alarm is going off Luz said "get out of my head" which I've guessed was one of two things. Either Luz wanted to get the phone alarm out of her head, or the sound of the ambulance that probably picked her dad up. Great little detail.

17:39 I feel you on the clothes thing. I grew up as a "tomboy" . I preferred clothes from the boy's section rather than the girls. It was more comfy and more my style. I didn't like "cute", pink, tight/frilly stuff. I preferred darker colors and things with a cool design like a flaming skull, not something that had Minnie Mouse on it. 😒 I still buy t-shirts & hoodies from the guy section.

About the lack of judgement toward Amity and Luz's relationship; Dana Terrace has said that homophobia just doesn't exist in the Boiling Isles. You're free to love whoever you want to there. I'm also glad they didn't go down the "father is absent because he doesn't care" route with Alador. He's just seriously overworked. He also gets distracted by anything he finds interesting, as seen with a butterfly and Bump's Palisman. But he loves his kids. As seen here, he's willing to drop whatever he's doing if he thinks his kids are in trouble. In short, I adore Alador. His wife, however. . . You'll see.

So Edric’s potion “accident” is actually super important. It ends up being a serum that can revive the Titans, and Belos tries to get his hands on it to resurrect an army of them to pogrom all the witches.

Man Luz really freaked out when those sirens went off. I wonder if that’s significant in some way?

Everyone’s already commented about the important stuff, so I just want to take a moment to laugh about the weird rivalry between Alador and Darius. Back in ep 7 Darius called Alador a hack, in this one we see him booing him in the old Brawl photo, but then in the scene when Alador’s talking to Amity at the beginning he has a *signed copy* of a book by Darius… which he makes a face at and has his Abomaton destroy to demonstrate it protecting Amity. It just makes me giggle so much, they’re pushing fifty and they act like such children about each other. (I have my own theories as to why but I won’t mention, lol)

Since I didnt see anyone point it out, the bat on Ed's shoulder is not a palisman, it's from the episode where Luz discovered the Ice Glyph while training on the Knee. He caught it and wanted to keep it as a pet and his sisters tried to get him to get rid of it cus it "would bite him" turns out he really did keep it as a pet, it was also a really early hint at his desire to do beastkeeping magic
