Martin Dubravka, backup GK for Newcastle United, went on loan to Manchester United. After playing in two Carabao Cup matches for Man Utd, he was recalled to Newcastle. When Man Utd won the cup final over Newcastle, Dubravka qualified for a winner’s medal. Had Newcastle won the final, he wouldn’t have received a medal, despite being a Newcastle player.

Damn, posted this before I heard the caller. That’s right. Dubravka was cup tied and couldn’t play in the final for Newcastle, which was an issue because Newcastle’s top keeper was suspended, the third keeper had just gone out on loan, so Newcastle played the final with their 4th keeper, who hadn’t played in a competitive match in two years.

By winning outright we took the #1 seed into a GF (for junior cricket). Our coach told us that this was very important because the weather forecast for the GF was going to be wet. He knew that if the GF was washed out, we would be deemed winners of the game. All week we were ready to play but hours before the start of play the heavens opened in a BIG-WAY....The rest is history 😅

Here's a crazy thing from North American sports: If a player is traded to another team, or dropped by a team, or a team fires a coach during the season, and said team then goes on to win the Super Bowl/World Series/NBA Finals/Stanley Cup that same season, that traded/dropped player or fired coach could get a championship ring if the players vote to give him one. Hell, if an MLB team calls up a player from a minor league affiliate for just a day and they go on to win the World Series, that player will probably get a ring, even if that one appearance was in the first month of the season (April). In fact, there have been instances where an MLB player was traded from one team to another, and then both of those teams ended up playing one another in the World Series that year, meaning said traded player would get a ring no matter who won.
