I left a steel reese hitch in my truck for about two years. When the hitch was new it had very little play in it (opposite of this hitch in which you complain about). Well, when I went to remove it, it had rusted inside solid and took weeks of penetrating oil, heating torches, and beating it out from the opposite side with a sledgehammer!!! I learned my lesson with that many years ago. I bought a stainless steel replacement, and always keep the inside oiled. So... This hitch having plenty of play? No problem at all... This will never corrode into place and give you the problems I experienced. It's a trailer hitch, on a truck... It's not a sports car. Having play and some clanking noises while towing a trailer is just commonplace and to be expected. I would rather have this play than have the hitch rust solid where it can't be removed. Check out pintle hitch stye and now you're talking about some serious clanking and noise while hauling a trailer!!! Thanks for the longterm review -- Always good to see how well a product holds up over time.

There's a device now that is U shaped. It wraps around the hitch and reciever (where they come together) at an angle and locks in. It completely eliminates the rattle and is simple and easy to add on and remove.

Thanks for the review. My dad taught me a little trick to stop a hitch from rattling around. Just drill and tap a hole in the bottom of your receiver behind pin ( between spare and pin) Then run a bolt into it and it will wedge the hitch in place so it doesn’t bounce up and down. Then just Cary that size wrench in your truck incase you need to swap it out.

All or most drop down hitches will rattle around like that. Here in Australia, most of our tow hitches receivers have 1 or 2 locking bolts on them. So after you insert your tow hitch, tighten locking bolts down firmly onto your hitch and this takes out all of the rattle in that area. It may also need a locking bolt for the towball as well.

Seriously try this, spray a thin coat of spray can rubberized coating or truckbed liner, try it and if theres more room do a second coat rub a little grease on it after you get it snug fitting and voila! You can do the same to the bottom of the ball, the rubberized works better on this as it scrapes off excess easily. Tapelines make it neat.

Thanks for the review. Seems your biggest gripe is the rattling in the receiver (which is "normal"), but your anti-rattle device is not really a part of the Weigh Safe review per se. As at least one reply below indicates, if you get the e.g. Blue Ox anti-rattle, that is 2 U-bolts that bolt on outside AFTER you insert the hitch. In no way shape or form does it interfere with inserting or removing the hitch. Avoid any anti-rattle solution that goes inside of the receiver such as the one you showed, duct-tape, etc.
@Myksgarage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it a good hitch, and I’ve happy with it

Keep towing with it, the ball will become very loose. The aluminum gets worn around the ball and more movement will develop. Also you will notice the pin getting worn that goes thru the ball.

Glad I watched this video, I think I’m going to go with b&w tow and stow instead of the weigh safe now. Seems to be better built and less play in the overall hitch. Check out a hitch clamp. It will take all the play out of the receiver. Won’t be a solution for the play in the ball etc though.

On a side note, they make better anti-rattle clamps that are around the $10 mark on Amazon. They work better than the type you have, BUT, they are still a pain to unbolt the two nuts anytime you want to remove the hitch. I leave my hitch in year round as a way of hopefully eliminating rear end damage from distracted drivers.

Does the 6 inch drop of the hitch interfere with your ground clearance under a load ? And Is Your Truck Stock?
