I am 190 I always been 145 my whole life at one point lower than that I've gained over 50 lbs in the last 4 years and now that I am engaged I am wanting more to be healthy again. kzbin.infoUgkx5VQ5nUzHu6i0O5_u7ipyLnCz0lbsSvr0 I am not fat but I am thick and have muscle. I am very close to how you were but a lil smaller but I am so sick people making comments to me like I'm huge or like you said having shorts that used to be so cute on me and now I can't even find a pair to fit me. I used to love shopping now I don't even want to go to the store and if I do I pick the biggest size don't even try it on and deal with it. I went from size 5 to size idk because I don't even want to know the real number. I hate looking at pics of myself now or me before. Thank you for your video it's time to make a change.

Dr Fung..... I was diagnosed diabetic in Dec of 2019 when my A1C reached 6.5 and prescribed Metformin. I was 293 lbs at 5'8" and 56 years old. I saw some of your videos and decided that if I can reverse diabetes with diet, I had to at least try. Well, I took Metformin for 2 days and then stopped taking pills and started IF and Keto. Holy smoke am I glad I found your videos. You and a few other docs on KZbin have changed my world. I got on the scale this morning at 179lbs, my recent blood work was fantastic and my A1C is now 5.0. Looking and feeling great. My Dr is amazed. She was very open minded to IF and Keto, and told me to keep doing what I'm doing because it is absolutely working. Stay away from carbs. They are poison. Eat only once or twice a day within a limited time window. Your body will thank you in more ways than you can imagine.

I spent too much time knowing I wasn’t over eating, yet having my body stick to a “set weight” no matter what. If I had been more concerning about weight, I probably would’ve been a frustrated yo-yo dieter. However, I was more concerned about maintaining my hour glass figure. I managed to stay around the same weight no matter what I ate. It wasn’t until I ran into your videos, moved to Keto & IF. The weight just fell off. 47 lbs pretty quickly & the last time I saw my endocrinologist, I was down another 18 lbs. He actually asked me why.?. I told him I was continuing IF. He asked me if I could hungry all the time. I told him “no.” If was a very simple to do. I lost my carb/sugar cravings without attempting to. They just disappeared. My only regret is that I can’t afford as much meat as I would like to have because prices have gone sky high since “Covid”. I make too much to receive food stamps, but not enough so that I can afford all the protein I want. Please keep on inspiring people! I appreciate you so much. I know I’m not alone in this…🤗🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

"The Aetiology Of Obesity," videos of Dr. Jason Fung is a six-part series. Each video is about 1 hr long and in one of those videos, Dr. Fung mentioned how metformin made people gained weight. Since metformin is prescribed to T2DM patients, it's not surprising that they are mostly fat/obese.

Since I have more energy I have been exercising more. I lost 70 pounds so far and feel great. The low carb lifestyle is definitely the way to go.

I'm glad you are feeling better and are getting healthier. Low carb high fat is important to me.. but moreso is fasting. Fasting keeps me in check (food wise), keeps me in a good mood, makes me WANT to exercise, and reduces chronic pain without harmful medications. Important for me daily: fasting, low carb high fat diet, exercise, mental exercise, sleep/ relaxation

If most people just cut back their carbohydrates. And they ate more fish, nuts, eggs and lots of green veg they would get most of the benefits of low carbohydrate without actually cutting out carbohydrates. They could eat the odd bit of fruit, occasional bit of bread and potatoes and they would all get great health responses. Most people are eating starchy and processed carbohydrates every meal.

It took me 50 years to become 50 pounds overweight and that began when I graduated high school in 1970 and the low fat/high carb philosophy of eating for good health began along with the obesity epidemic. A glaring cause of this is how little training our doctors receive about nutrition and the history of diet relating to obesity.

Back before obesity became a widespread problem, and before the anti-fat craze (and I'm old enough to remember) -- we still ate carbs, but those carbs were unfailingly smothered in fat, either butter or lard (or sometimes egg yolks), with at least 80% of the calories coming from fat. Perhaps equally important, the sources were entirely animal fats. What we now call the Atkins diet was described in my college biochemistry textbook, which was published before 1972. Everything old is new again, often for good reason.

@Reziac
@Reziac 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ryan_DeWitt That's not what I said either. What's important is the ratio of carbs to fat. The more carbs, the more insulin, and the more calories get converted to stored fat in your body; the same calories as fat do not have this effect. When carbs predominate, you tend to eat more trying to make up for the energy that was stored rather than used, rinse and repeat until 400 pounds. You can also graph a tidy parallel between phytoestrogen intake (mostly from soy), thyroid decline (which mediates the carb cycle; low thyroid means poor utilization and makes you crave sugar), and increasing obesity. [Yes, my background is biochemistry. This is all first year stuff.]

@@jgrysiak6566 You don’t need any starches or sugars in your diet. Your body can produce every bit of glucose it needs itself from fats and proteins. It doesn’t have to come from your diet. Would you mind telling me if you're still using insulin? I'm a research chemist and have studied T1D extensively. I know that before the availability of exogenous insulin a very low carb and higher fat diet was the best approach for T1D-along with fasting protocols. But the reason I ask is there are a number os fairly recent research papers that suggest that most type 1 diabetics produce a small quantity of insulin endogenously. But this is suppressed when eating carbs. there is not a lot of support for this science because insulin is big business. So if you're willing, can you tell me. Thanks so much.

I have lived on Switzerland for 12yrs. The Swiss eats tons of cheese and butter.and a lot them eats lots of salad.infact you can't go to a household and miss salad. They make their salad dressings with olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Restaurants are expensive here that if you eat out all the time you will become bunkrapt.so 80% of swiss cook at home and most people going to work either carry their food and or they carry cheese bread and butter for lunch. The fast food shops like MC Donald burger king are no where to be found except bigger city. And they are expensive.most small villages or towns promote their local farmers. And did I say how their supermarket are tiny and very small? They don't have supersize products.all products are packaged do small and tiny. They also have only small handcarts. Most of swiss only buy what they need that's it. Their fridges are very very tiny because it's mostly inbuild in houses.they buy fresh groceries everyday. there are no school busses for kids.the kids go to school with bicycles, Scooters,or walk. No lunches in school is provided.kids go back to home to eat lunch and go back to school. When I look back the lifestyle of swiss it explains why they are thin or slim. In my 13yrs yrs living here I have NEVER EVER met an obese person. The Swiss also like outdoor activities.when I moved in here it was culture shock. But right now I love their lifestyle so much. Now compare this lifestyle with American lifestyle. Everything is big and exaggerated. A family of four has two big fridges and freezers..my sister from America came to visit me and she was shocked beyond belief. She has a family of four. 2kids plus husband but she has two freezers and 2 fridges.

I'm Russian living in America and find this multiple freezers and fridges absurd. I'm from a family of 7, know people who have 11 kids and all just had 1 fridge !

I cut out carbs, direct carbs dish as bread and other processed foods and it's great.. I only get carbs now if there are small amounts in cream or some vegetables.. Although, a few years ago I did a lot of weight training and sort of intermittent fasting but I ate a lot of oats. Everyday and protein powders.. it took me nearly 2 years to lose weight and get ripped.. Now it too me under 2 months to lose weight just by cutting out carbs.. zero right training, because I hurt my shoulder. I just walk now, everyday for over an hour 👍👍

Thanks, Dr. Fung. Last year, I was 220 pounds at 5 ft 6 inches. I am male, early 50s. Thanks to IF and your videos, I a m now 165 pounds. My doctor was so impressed that he is now asking me for tips. On my way to eliminating my BP meds and may even my dependence on CPAP. I was able to do this without even exercising (ie weight training, HIIT). Just my regular walks with the dog. Living day to day with a vision to be my high school weight of 140 pounds. Thanks again Dr. Fung. Proud to be a fellow Canadian.

I've been doing keto and daily walking for 3 months and dropped 25 pounds. I'm almost in the normal BMI range! Before following a low carb diet I was working out 2hrs a day 3-5 times a week, killing myself in the gym and eating 1900 calories a day (I'm tall) I lost 7 pounds in 5 months doing that. Weight loss is so clearly a hormonal process to me now. On paper, I mathematically should have been losing way more weight before going on keto because I was working out so much and cutting calories but once I switched to keto and walking the fat started melting off like crazy. I didn't even have to give up ice-cream. I just eat keto ice-cream instead!

Dr. Fung is right on the mark. I have lost 40 pounds since middle June and find 24 to 36 hour fasts are easy to do. Benefits are huge besides weight loss. More energy than ever mind more focused. If fhey could put fasting in a box we would see ads all over KZbin selling it.

@@Calejandre138 i used a TDEE calculator online to figure my calories. I’m short and sedentary so I’m eating 1350 a day. I’ve had cheesecake and Reese’s lol but portion control. So I use a food scale and weigh and track calories on MyFitnessPal. Everything I eat and drink I count. Im trying to start low carb/keto but I’m going slow since I’m a binge eater. Lots of water. And lots of protein.

Carbs aren't our enemy. They are primary energy source as they fuel your everyday activities. I can't really imagine my life without carbs haha :D. The thing is, you don't have to be low on carbs to lose fat. It's all about consuming less calories than you spend in certain time period. Balanced diet that I'm still following works best for me, even though I found it on website dietarize. I also have cheat meals included. What more you could ask for :D

That’s easy to say. “Why don’t you eat less carbs?” Most carbs we encounter in life are refined and lack fiber. Most of us don’t really have a choice except to cut out as much carbs as possible. If you can maintain a healthy diet without cutting out carbs, that’s great. However, don’t assume that your diet will work for everyone else. For some people, carbs are the enemy.

You don't need carbs for energy if you are fat. You can use your body fat to burn for energy. When you are eating low carb the body burns through those than switches to fat. This is called ketosis. Ketosis is also found to be beneficial to brain and heart health. To add a point....When in ketosis you are not hungry so it is easier to stay on track and you have more energy.

I hope your target weight (body composition) is healthy in the long term. Great result with maintaining the fat loss. I can't recommend long term ketogenic diets or "carnivore" due their lower life span effects. However, if it is only to reduce insulin resistance and is short term go for it and all the best.

I've only been doing low carb for a few days and already feel wonderful. I told my doctor that I cut carbs because they spike blood sugar and turn to sugar. He says sugar isn't really a problem. LOL. Then I see these articles online about people that quit keto because they said it's hard to live your life when you go out to eat with friends or family.

This reminded me of the diet plates you used to see on menus in the 1960s: Cottage cheese, hamburger patty, and tomato slices -- the dietary police would have horrors about this. I've been doing IF for about 10 months and it's working for me. I'm losing weight slowly. I could probably lose more quickly, but am still eating carbs. For example today I had a sandwich at lunch, but I think it's working because I have a 6-hour eating window. I don't know yet if I'll go more low carb because I'm able to stick to this way of eating. It makes me happy when I have a small sandwich and fruit at lunch. That's an important consideration too.

I tried keto for a few months and lost weight but then I ate some cake and ice cream and it was the most incredible thing I ever ate. It tasted so good after not eating it I couldn't resist it and gained the weight back. Intermittent fasting works better for me and also I can do calorie restriction with high volume low calorie foods that also taste great like Greg Doucette recommends.
