OMG, you made me cry! You rock. Having lost about 40kg a few years ago, 126 to 85kg, I can relate to every part of this video. I fully understand how difficult undertaking this kind of challenge is and the hurdles that are in your path, which makes your effort even more incredible. You are truly awesome! I was 116 kg 3 years ago … and a wonderful new edition came into our lives totally by accident… a dog names Nickie …. Since then she has helped me get down to a steady 85kg …. Walking kick started everything. Now I go to the gym 4 times a week … have a happier life … gave up booze a while ago and that has given me an even bigger bounce of confidence. All it takes is a spark and life can change ❤

Mate what a beautiful video! You are one of the most genuine souls on YT! And I even had a tear to hide from my missus on my face as I feel you highlighted the same struggles I have too, from family, weight and over alcohol consumption. (Bearing in mind I’m an ex doorman and we don’t show emotion 😅) Just think, there could be a parallel universe where you’re still the same guy as before, who never thought 100% for his family, smashed it every day! Never gave up! I know that universe would make you sad, damn! What a video! You’ve left me, inspired, amazed but most importantly with some thinking to do! Bless you Ryan!

Congrats, that's awesome. What a great feeling and inspiration to the people around you. I've lost 32kg in the last year, gone from obese to now close to "normal" weight range, and started really enjoying running and other activities too. When people ask me for advice I do tell them it's calories before anything else. I agree there's some parameters around that, like you can't just live on 5 cheeseburgers a day and nothing else (probably) but within a vaguely normal range of foods I think calorie restriction is what the typical person should do. Chuck in some exercise because its good for you and makes you feel good but I don't think people should count on it for a very significant part of weight loss (even though you do get that benefit once you start doing long runs, rides etc).

Congrats on your Journey. I've lost ~50kg, and am managing to stay pretty stable now around 90-92k. I find lots of people asking me what I did, because everyone wants a simple answer. they don't like it when I say "well, you just have to want it". I truly wanted it. I realised I could no longer go on amusement park rides with my kid, and that the next time I got on a plane I was going to need the extended seat belt. I did a lot of walking, then a lot of cycling, and now love going to the gym and lifting heavy things over and over again. the 137kg me is long gone and good riddance, that guy was a fucking pill.

Hey Ryan! This video is so inspiring! I found your content while looking at videos about zwift (just bought my own indoor cycling setup) to start my own weight loss and fitness journey. I am gearing up for a surgery that will require me to lose about 10kg, so that’s the direct initial motivation but I figure in for a penny in for a pound, right? If I’m going to commit to losing some weight, I might as well just make the necessary lifestyle changes needed to actually get fit and feel better about my body. Seeing that you have achieved essentially the same kind of transformation as what I’m hoping for it’s incredible to see how far you’ve come. I’m 36 and I’m hoping to achieve similar numbers to yours by the time I get to my 40s so I can enjoy that stage of my life. So thank you for documenting your progress and putting it online for us all to see, so people like me know it’s possible to do for ourselves as well!

Hi Ryan, Really appreciated and related to the video, having experienced an extremely similar physical and mental transition myself since 2018. Peaked at approximately 122KG in my teens before tapering down to where I am now at 79KG. Majority of the weight loss occurred over a few months with restricted eating (CICO) and daily walking, but I've maintained/continued leaning out since. I'm now cycling competitively, covering 15-20,000 KMs annually (indoors and out), and consistently looking for new ways to challenge my body and one-up previous accomplishments in the way of hikes, mountain summits, ride distances/durations, etc. While I understand it's a very nuanced conversation with a ton of variables, and nobody's situation or ability to make adjustments to their lifestyle will ever be equal, I do want to share a quote that was extremely impactful for me while losing weight and subsequently building my fitness: "Find comfort in the discomfort." It's the discomfort you feel while at a calorie deficit, or half-way into an epic physical feat, that indicates you're challenging yourself and making an improvement. Finding a way to seek-out, harness, and thrive in the presence of that 'pain' should ultimately lead anyone to the positive outcome they're after, be it weight-loss, increased fitness/capability, or simply trying something new. Find comfort in the discomfort, and next time it will be easier.

The sudden motivation is so true though. Like one day I just started working out. Watching what I ate. I fell off for two weeks but things were happening. Then I started again, bccifmd forgot it was even a thing. But, I realized. My mentality toward food had changed, or was actively changing. And the ‘suudenness’ wasn’t so sudden. It was years in the making. Years of accumulating all of this knowledge, ague attempts at follow through, and the shift was really in my head, and with food. I wasn’t constantly thinking about meals and how much how little. Not to an obsessive degree. And then, suddenly I’m really motivated to work out, very casually. Like, hm, why not. Also, funny, I am most motivated on my period 😢. And then after my period, it’s the least (which was where I fell off earlier…).

You're an inspiration Ryan. Keep up with the journey and keep on bringing us all along for the ride. You have made me realise that perhaps I can achieve more from my cycling than just the fun of being on my bike. I can now see myself actively pushing my fitness beyond what I thought I was capable of. I'm now looking at my Zwift numbers and thinking that I'll soon be a Cat B rider. When I went from D to C I was filled with dread that I wouldn't be good enough. It's taken a while but I now realise that who cares if a number of races or events I do on Zwift don't come up to the level of a C rider? I'm doing it now to see if I can push this old body of mine further. I've started making goals. Sub 70 min up the Alpe being the latest. This looks easier now that my first ride on the new 'The Grade' climb bumped my FTP up from 217 to 234! I can now see a sub 60 min Alpe time in my future. Keep on going Ryan and hopefully one day I'll be sitting in the start pens in a Cat B race with you 😎

Can't even begin to tell you how much I admire what you've done. And no, it's not selfish for you to spend time on your fitness. Instead of dying in your 50's or 60's, you'll be around to support and love your family and in good health well into old age. They'll thank you later, if not earlier. 😁👍🏻

You're just so inspiring to watch, and i'm so glad I found your channel, right as I was getting into zwift myself almost a year ago. I have so much respect for your journey, and I cant belive the goals you've set and achieved along it so far. I believe you can achieve anything you set your mind to, and your will power is probably your greatest strength. Keep up the amazing work, and I'm looking forward to your outdoor ride vids, especially because I've just bought a bike myself, and can't wait to recieve it next week. So because of your vids I don't feel like the only noob on a bike :)

I just want to start by saying congratulations, you had a lot more ground to cover and and twice my age I'm guessing it's not been as "easy" as I had it, but you did it nonetheless, kudos That Goggins short really resonated with me, being unbalanced to get the extreme to then becoming balanced and find a new better normality than before I was depressive during the COVID lockdown and to cope I was eating and drinking way too much during that time period I gained over 30kgs, definitely over 35% body fat, unable and unwilling to run, walk, climb stairs, do any kind of physical activity, the only times I did any kind of movement was to go to the supermarket to buy food and alcohol to stuff my face and every 3-4 months I had to make a new hole in my belts and buy new pants/shirts since nothing would fit me anymore My now ex-gf was the spark I needed to realize what I was doing to myself and I went for a run, which made me literally vomit acid after less than 1 km, that made me cut out most of the junk food and all the alcohol for a very long time A few weeks later (end of 2022) I bought a bike, since then I was able to lose more than the 30kgs I had gained and I was even more muscular than I was when all of this began Since then I've become really interested in cycling and I've developed a lot of fitness, I have above average VO2Max, FTP, all of that, but I still see a little extra skin and stretch marks and I don't ever want to be back to my old fat self, I'm almost proud of those scars, they mean a lot to me Since losing all the weight I have allowed it to creep up a bit since I really wasn't eating enough and the stress of being so lean but now I feel good, I feel strong, I feel able to do anything I want and I get to enjoy food and life and going out with friends without worrying too much about a few slices of pizza or cake or the occasional drink I really wish more people had a similar story instead of just giving up even when they realize that they need to change something in their life

Very inspiring Ryan. Thankfully you got a grip of it and made drastic changes in your life, many don’t manage to stick to it and think it’s a 5 minute fix rather than a lifestyle. I agree with the meditation, cycling is meditation for me, body is doing one thing but my mind is elsewhere plus I just feel like I need that fix everyday. Days off the bike are difficult for me 😢. I also try to not compare myself to others which is difficult when racing on zwift but just try to be the best I can be. Looking forward to next weeks vid 🍿 😁

I'm struggling to lose a few kgs and I'm lacking the necessary motivation with the knife & fork that is required. The exercise is the easy bit for me. But I think I've just found my trigger. Looking at Ryan's recent times on Zwift, I think he's now close to kicking my arse... And I'm not having a guy that once weighed 195kgs kicking my arse. No way. So I think I need a print off of him on the wall in front of me when I'm suffering on Alpe du Zwift....each time he puts up a good time in a race, I'm going to be like Clubber Lang in the crowd watching Rocky, crushing a can with rage. I'm going to be in the garage sweating buckets ...cannot.be.beaten.by Ryan.... Hey... Whatever you need right? 😂 See you on that bloody mountain! PS great vid as usual Ryan. Love the journey.

@FoobsTon
@FoobsTon 3 ай бұрын
@@RyanCondon Well on Ryan Condon's Epic Alpe du Zwift adventure I passed you 7 corners from the end. Think my PB is 75mins, but my w/kg is slightly better than yours... On the flatter parcours you're kicking my arse. Incidentally, I had to laugh at you being in slight awe looking up at Ditchling Beacon.... This from a guy who effectively did 4 bloody goes up Alpe d'Huez! Seriously, if you saw what Alpe d'Huez looked like in real life, you'd shit your pants and think I can't do that...yet you did, 4 times. So I predict Ryan, that maybe next year... You're going to climb the real thing and maybe some of your subscribers will join you. As much as I like Zwift, outdoor riding is the bollocks and it's great watching your wide eyed child-like discovery of it. Your editing and story telling is really coming on too. Great stuff.

Well done Ryan, I used to be a morbidly obese alcoholic, until my DR kicked my ass at 46 years old and showed me where my life was heading (wooden box), that was 9 years 7 days ago, I am 55 years old now and I haven’t touched an alcoholic drink since, lost 5.5 stone to get down to 11 stone and fell in love with running, started with couch to 5K, now run marathons and ultra marathons (longest so far 70 miles) which is my happy place that’s for sure, all the best mate and thank you for the inspiration P.S. just about to start my zwift cycling journey (oh bugger LOL)

Have you ever seen fat people getting old? usually, fat people die young. However, when they do, their quality of life is undermined by health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, cardiovascular disease, and joint pain among many others. If you have something to live for or someone you care enough to see grow or enjoy your life with, Losing weight is an easy decision. Self-esteem is not the same as self-acceptance. Your self-esteem should be high enough to be mature enough to reject what you see in the mirror and consider it unacceptable for the type of life you want. Being fat shouldn't define who you are. Self-accepting yourself when you are morbidly obese is a slow-paced suicide. A happy life is not about pleasure, A happy life is about enjoying the personal growth consequence of challenge, pain, sweat, and sacrifice. Thanks, Ryan for being a good example that change is not only possible. But also enjoyable.

My advice would be not to mention politics of any kind, it has nothing to do with what you are talking about. Yes the Tories were sh!t - but the fact you felt the need to mention it has put me off immediately. If I want political commentary I will watch a political YT channel.
