3:17 if you're that customer, forget about what she's saying here. Just get a weighted keyboard from the beginning and remember to also get a sustain pedal. It doesn't have to cost you a lot, there are many descent budget offerings out there, which is why i would never recommend anyone to get something like this Roland go piano with keys that are not weighted. The thing is that it will be much, much more difficult for a beginner to be truly expressive on a keyboard that isn't weighted and this will take away from the joy of playing and the motivation for learning to play. I this guy does a pretty good job of getting some expression out of the piano go, but he is an advanced pianist with years of practise and experience. Beginners, and really anyone wanting to play classic piano sound keyboards, should go for weighted action! "do you really need weighted keys?" Yes! You really do!

I have a question. I have an acoustic piano at home but since I need to practice more and am usually away from home I was thinking of buying a Roland go 88 just for practice(witch is Dem weighted) and gigs. I’ve got a GO, and one advantage is you can literally pick it up with thumb and forefinger with 1 hand. It runs off 6x AA batteries. You can play it with it on your lap even. It’s so portable it’s insane. You can plug in a sustain pedal just fine. I’d recommend the proper Roland one that has the swivel out heel rest which stops the pedal sliding away from you.
@martinmu3763 жыл бұрын
As for the lack of proper LINE-OUT that they mock about, you can actually hear the distortions of the saturated signal in her performance at around 12:30. Kind of subtle but with headphones it's a pain to listen, certainly not for a pro or semi pro musician. Still awesome value for home practice, midi, and jamming with friends at the living room. Now the FP30x fixes that, so you have the choice to upgrade OR buy a cheaper disconinued FP30 used. I'm deciding that myself at this very moment.

From what I can tell, the weighted hammer action boards come with a real risk of mechanical failure, based on comments I have read online. For this reason, and the disconnect or unnaturally fake tactile feedback from hammers that aren’t actually involved directly in triggering the sound, plus the higher price, I am seeking semi-weighted or even non-weighted boards like the Korg B2N and Yamaha NP32, albeit the Piaggero only has 76 keys. Still. :-)

Help needed!! I'm a beginner who wants to get into BOTH piano and synths. Probably 60% piano which will be my focus anyway for my first year. I love classical such as Chopin which I'd like to try before I'm 90 yr old... But I just LOVE 80s synths as well, so I'll be dabbling with that and Virtual synths for some variance in the future... Looking at 1) Arturia Keylab 88 Mk2 with weighted keys (but not on a graded scale) and you get Analog Lab incl some piano sounds too. 2) Yamaha MX 88, weighted keys, think they're graded from bass to treble. Includes Motif engine and lot of synth sounds. But some people said the keys are getting sloppy after heavy use... Not sure! 3) Roland Juno DS88 has weighted and graded keys, has piano and synth sounds, but is there a replacement on the horizon as it's getting old? 4) Roland FP 30 cool piano, but limited/zero internal synths, but as long as it has Midi I will just buy Arturia V Studio or Analog lab.... Or is the FP30 too weighted to try play synths on it!? Pleeease any advice will be appreciated! 😁😊

I need to pick your expert brain for some advice. I am primarily a guitar player/singer, but I also play some piano/keys. I have a beautiful old red Roland FP-8 and a Yamaha P105... both with weighted keys... along with a semi-weighted M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 controller (which I bought for stage use, primarily for it's improved portability.) I also have a couple of 49-key synthes I use in the studio. I play live in a 4-piece band and also in a duo... guitar and bass, with added keys, drum pad and a looper. In each act, I play a few 'piano' songs (a couple of which have strings layered on top), a couple with an organ sound, and one or two with just a string sound. My problem is that ALL of the full 88-key boards I have are too long to fit easily on stage, especially with the duo, where we often have very limited stage space. Although I prefer weighted keys for the piano tunes, they CAN be a pain for organ slides, etc, and because most of what I do on keyboard is rhythm or texture parts, I think I can get away with as few as 61 keys. For the sake of the no-more-than 8 songs per night on which I play keyboard, I'm seriously considering the Roland Go Piano as a replacement. Any thoughts or suggestions for other compact alternatives?

If you lean just a midi controller- several options are available with 88 non weighted keys. Arturia and Nektar both make one, and if you want something with sounds and 88 non weighted keys, the StudioLogic Compact series has that.
