I was a German boy scout and in 2003 we were with 100 scouts on the island of Muck to the end of a 3 week hiking tour through Scotland. it was a great time! Never forget this beautiful nature in Scotland!

Bryan Walters was 31 when this was filmed in 1978. He speaks so eloquently of the inherent risks of the sea and was sadly lost to it in 2003 aged 56. See also the recent documentary The Prince of Muck which catches up with Lawrence MacEwan who is now over 80 years old. Laurence talks of the loss of Bryan. Bryans wife Clare who is seen in this video as a young mum, passed away in 2017. Time waits for none of us, in many different ways.

That’s deeply sad, I am ages with him & still treading this “mortal coil”. Watching this, carries me back to that time, golden memories of a different time, I was fortunate to be brought up in the deepest countryside, although I have a busy life & continue to fulfil ambitions in quieter moments l think back to those times & the folks who lived in that World with a heavy heart, such wonderful people, so full of life, hard working & contented. For me it was a Golden Age, the best of times, the best of people, it was a privilege and I treasure it.

@@janoginski5557Beautifully put. I agree with you completely. I was a child in the 70's and early 80's. My memories of summers spent on Skye in particular were brought to life by this film. The whole atmosphere was so similar. Wonderful times indeed. Keep well.

@@Traveller69 hello John, it is heart felt. Maybe in some ways our "other" life, in the now rather distant past haunts but it it's full of poingent memories, if only we could travel back in time. But the times & people that inhabited that World, now gone, are held as precious with us, they live on in our memories. Isn't it true we are all caught up in the mad rush & excitement & challenges of life, you feel it's never going to be different but suddenly one is old & it has all rushed by us far too quickly. I've had a wonderful life,(not without it's challenges) but those past and the shared times with them have enriched & brought deep meaning to my Life. Maybe we will meet up one day, my daughter lives on Harris, Scalpay to be exact so I do travel up to visit her & the kids, it's wonderful to escape the hustle & bustle & travel up North and some beautiful scenery. All the very best Iain

@@janoginski5557 Cheers Iain, yes it is so true. I go back to Skye myself and still enjoy it for what it is and what it will always be, but it is never the same for me personally as it once was. There are ghosts everywhere, flashbacks of times gone, people gone. Many are still alive of course, just moved far and wide, grown up, families of their own. There is not a view that doesn't have a memory attached to them though. A blessing and a burden in equal measure. I too venture west occasionally and if I ever end up Scalpay way, I shall certainly make enquiries to enable a proper blether 🙂 John.

Our school class stayed over there for a week in 1989, when there was only around thirty people living there, and only one shop, a second hand book shop, and barely and houses or roads, it's changed a lot from what i have seen on here.
