I was so tickled to see you reacted to this one! It's my all time favorite Weird Al parody! I home schooled my daughter grade 2 - 12, including English/Literature, and as an "English teacher" (not really, as I often struggled with certain things that I'd forgotten since I graduated!) I fell in love with this one, & my daughter did too. She is now 28, and has been a published writer since she was 19! (Sorry - proud mama moment!) Im 63 and have been a fan of Weird Al "literally" since he started his career. He has so many gems like this. If you're a Star Wars fan (well, who isn't?!) his SW parody, "The Saga Begins", will crack you up! I also love "Foil" (parody of Royal by Lorde), White & Nerdy and I perform This Way. I can't wait to see you do more of Al's parodies! By the way, if there any mistakes in this comment, I sincerely hope they are typos! I proofread it, but even I make mistakes occasionally. Besides, I have carpel tunnel and my hands are burning right now. (That's my story and I'm sticking with it! 😂)

Iapproach even informal emails as a formal letter. So, this subversion of Robin Thicke's Rapey "Blurred Lines' brought a smile to this old casual writer. I looked for "Blurred Lines" and it was creepy song the definitely needed a parody. A salute to "the man with the Big Dictionary.";)

Funny how that results in less miscommunication, yes? It's almost as if those who worked with language in the past understood grammar, syntax, agreement, and other . . . Oh, I don't know; call them "rules" or some other fixed system indication that let people communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.

When he mentioned the Oxford comma, I didn't know what it meant. I looked it up and I realized I use it all the time. It was the way I was taught and they said as long as you are consistent with it, you can still use it. This man is a genius and a national treasure.

Thanks for your reaction! Yes, Weird Al is a genius and master of the English language. Please check out Weird Al's cover "Bob"- he will really blow you away with his command of the English language and level of intelligence by putting together a series of Palindromes that make sense to the tune of a Bob Dylan song. Also, his cover of "Smells Like Nirvana" had me rolling on the floor laughing the first time I heard it (Kurt Cobain loved it and had the same reaction too).

"Bob' is one of my favorite Weird Al parodies. It's beyond brilliant and I'm forced to rewatch it every now and then just to try to figure out where Weird Al's brilliance comes from. How did he decide to write an entire song built around palindromes? How did it sound so much like the original from Dylan? 'Word Crimes' leads me to similar thoughts. How did he come up with this? In both mentioned songs, he had a flash of brillance to come up with the format, then executed it prefectly to make it work on every level. I heard 'My Bolonga' the first time Dr Demento played it on his broadcast. We thought that Weird Al was just another freak sending stuff to the Dr. That was the underestimation of the century.

Love the point of of how complex English really is! I'm not sure if you're aware, but in addition to parodies, Weird Al did quite a few originals that are quite hilarious as well! Among them are Albuquerque and The Night Santa Went Crazy(although perhaps that could be saved for December?🤔😊) I most definitely will be back for more of your reactions!

One of my favorite t-shirts says: English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over the head, and goes through their pockets looking for loose vocabulary and grammar.

LOVE IT !! &&& Hope you don't mind LONG Post !! I'm 64 & come from family of English & History teachers...( Mom's side.... my worst nightmare, from Middle school through H.S. when my Mom would be a substitute in one of my classes. First because Mom was a hard ass, I'd leave class & get told "Your Mom's a Bitch!!"...2nd reason in my reply back would be something like " Yeah, Well you're Lucky! You don't have to ride home with her & explain bad pop quiz grades she saw in the teacher's lesson books)...&& LOL ...LOVE You did Amish Paradise!! I Live in one !! North East Maryland, last 8 years the Amish having been buying up the surrounding farmland. It has saved it from developers buying it up for industrial or large town house or " cookie cutter" developments. Bonus to that too, It's REALLY Cool to see Amish Barn raising!! 30-40 men raise a 3-4 story barn in One Day !!...2nd Bonus...GREAT Local Produce!!...Been subscriber for a bit & Love the posts, especially the REN ones,That's how I found you. ROCK ON D !!❤❤❤...P.S. Always feel sorry for Al...He lost his parents in 2004..a Carbon Monoxide leak from gas fireplace 🥲🥲

Oh no! I didn't know about how he lost his parents! Poor Al! I'm 63 and I lost my mom in 2009. Still not over that. We were really, really close, especially since my dad passed in '92. I'm sure he wished they could have been there when he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame some years back.😢 Thanks for that information.💜

Barn raisings aren't the only things the Amish do. While out doing a paint job we watched a small troupe if them raise two house frames for the local Habitat for Humanity group in less time than we two could finish our paint job.

OMFG! It's been almost ten years, and I never saw how moron was spelled. And I'm literally beginning to literally think the word "literally" should literally be banned from the English language. I literally hear someone literally say that word, when they literally don't have to. (I even literally heard Weird Al himself literally say it.) I literally feel like I'm literally the only person in the world who literally never used that word, unless I'm literally making fun of someone who is.

I'm not sure English is any harder or easier than Japanese, Polish, and Russian. It's just that languages that belong to different language families than your native tongue is always hard to learn. Poles and Russians, for example, both speak Slavic languages, so most of them understand quite a lot of each other's languages. The easiest languages to learn for an English speaker would be the Germanic languages (German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian). Faroese and Icelandic are also Germanic, but those differ more from English than the rest.

Nah English is pretty easy to understand and to use, way way way easier than our German language, that is what most people consider a really challenging language, let alone because we have the word The 3 times with der die das (masculine, feminine and for things) Die Küche (the kitchen) but: in der Küche ( in the kitchen) that makes 0 sense for people outside German speaking countries

when you are leearning a new language it's better to throw at your doorstep everything you know about language, it's literaly restarting from scrach for exemple " japanese is hard!" no... when you learn the "center rules" of the language it is NOT you just need to DESIR to learn it really well and be ready to start again from a blank page! the same happen with my language "french" that many peoples concider one of the hardest language in the world... it's not... you just need to start again from scratch on a blank page and understand the basic rules! i'l not saying that to the " boss" of this chanel, he understand partially french ( exept if it's renaud because renaud is some sort of argotic french... we understand it but for peoples who are from other countries that only learned "accademical french" yes it would be harder! but anyway for any language start again from scrach!
