I find Spinda funny. One day, some programmer comes up with a funny thing he can do, to generate a visual pattern based on this data string they're using to generate pokemon anyways. It's cool, so they make a funny little gimmick pokemon that uses it. The pokemon is just a gimmick; nobody is ever going to use this thing, there's nothing bigger planned for it, it's just a programmer having fun, and someone thinking it's cool. Two decades later, this goddamn bear is showing up at night with an evil grin, telling Game Freak they can't code for shit, kicking them in the shins every time they think about approaching a new way of generating pokemon, and leaping out of the bushes whenever they do a spinoff or something and asking them how they're going to handle it. We may never know the effects Spinda has had on the development of Pokemon; the concessions made on behalf of the equivalent of some programmer's napkin doodles.

Ok, but the reason there's only "pidgy for zacian" is cause all the reasonable trades go immediately. And all the ridiculous trades that don't go through just build up. The real way to use GTS is to leave your Pokémon with reasonable request instead of looking for what you want, wait ~15 mins and you're good.

There should be some built in way to clear those request, either flagging them as “unreasonable” or “impossible” due to circumstance, or a timer for how long it can stay up there for. To clarify “impossible”, some people request specific Pokémon at levels they don’t spawn at. I’m not sure if this got patched as well, but some people also request certain forms of Pokémon to move to games where that form can’t exist(Galarian Ponyta to PLA, in example)

Double checked, Nincada from BDSP can be sent to Home but can’t be sent to SwSh Nincada from SwSh can be sent to Home but can’t be sent to BDSP But it’s evolutions can move between BDSP and SwSh Which I think is weird considering that you would probably think that Home would have an issue with Ninjask and Shedinja having identical data besides species

What I find most interesting about this is that, the Nincada block was put in place to prevent 2 things, the Pokemon being unfairly flagged due to duplicate HOMETrackerIDs, and the Pokemon being unfairly flagged due to BDSP's PokeDupeChecker. However, both of those systems have checks in place to account for Nincada evolving into Ninjask and Shedinja. When HOME detects a Ninjask-Shedinja pair, the Shedinja has its HOMETrackerID reassigned, and BDSP's PokeDupeChecker will allow Ninjask-Shedinja pairs to exist, meaning the block on Nincada is in reality redundant, and was just put in place as an additional safety measure in case something went wrong with either system.

I feel like there's a pretty simple solution to the Spinda problem: if the numbers generated in BDSP are reversed, why not re-reverse it when transfering to home. Basically, reverse the number, pattern stays the same. And if you're worried about pokemon's IDs changing, there are other instances in the series where a pokemon's ID, Met location, met date, etc end up changing in the transfer process.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Personality Value system has become something of a black box at Game Freak now. Given their struggles at accomplishing very basic things lately, it wouldn't shock me if nobody actually knew how this thing works anymore. They just plug it in, and it works. Nobody knows how it works, it just does. They have things that interact with it, that were all basically made in gen 3 and to a lesser extent in 4, and just scoop up those processes when they want them. It would make sense, with the ways things like Bottle Caps and Mints work, not actually changing the value, but kinda putting a flag by it. It would explain why Hidden Power never got a Fairy version as well.

On top of it, GameFreak doesn't have a high turnover rate from what I know of so it is likely more a case of them thinking it isn't broken so don't change it with the code of personality values and then when something gets messed up like the Spinda they probably don't end up having time to fix it because of how many games are basically forced out.

Spinda will always haunt me. I always like to fill the Pokedex when I play a game so with BD I was done. All except for Spinda. It's a swarm mon so you only get one shot a day at them appearing. When home compatability came out I thought oh I'm saved! But no... so there I went another few months of checking the damn outbreaks everyday for it. I finally found it last November, almost a year after the game released. 😂

spinda has another weird glitch in BDSP that I don't think is documented anywhere. When you bring it into contests, the spots always randomize, but return to normal once it leaves the contest. Maybe it temporarily replaces the personality value with a randomized contest related value which changes the spots? I dunno, but my shiny contest-maxxed spinda will forever remain in BDSP :(

The filter issue is that they didn’t make exceptions for checking if a Pokémon’s name was unaltered. They should allow all caps, all lowercase and regular names with whatever uppercase letters are in the name by default. In a perfect world the nickname tag would be able to prevent Pokémon that aren’t nicknamed from being traded, but, you can omit that flag if you are pkhexing your Pokémon in. They obviously corrected this in later games but they could have had it in gen 4 and gen 5. Their regular expressions checks probably just looked for the words and didn’t care about them being in the names of Pokémon by default. Unfortunately they couldn’t just to lowercase everything because people could have the name be normal and then uppercase the offensive parts. But again these filters only work as well as they are implemented. Which was shown in the state of the GTS video.

Yeah, they probably could have implemented a switch check/array beforehand that just had a check for if the name was a safe variation of an actual pokemon name (I'd probably check for case insensitive first then do a case check for anything other than highlighting the offensive word). I'd probably also make sure it that if the name cleared it'd then just check for other blacklisted terms, basically just making sure that Nosepassup doesn't get through just because it didn't get flagged for "ass"... I played BDSP and as soon as I got the black trainer card via using Pokemon HOME for the dex completion, I dropped the game. But before it happened, I got stuck with 1 Pokemon. Spinda. They could easiliy fix the spinda thing, they just choose not to. All they would have to do is update pokemon home, so that every time a spinda is transferred between bdsp and home, it automatically flips the hex value that determines the spots. That way internally the hex may be different but the spots will always LOOK the same, which is exactly what you want. As far is I know that value isn't used for anything else, so there wouldn't be any changes.

From what I've heard from dataminers, some bits of non-visual code were directly adapted from the DS games into BDSP, to the point where some glitches actually carried over, like Sticky Hold not having any effect on fishing like it was supposed to. Other stuff like the encounter tables were directly copy-pasted from the original game and are 100% identical. It's far from _everything_ like some people have claimed, but some sections are nearly identical.

That's also only for Pikachu, Eevee, and Meowth (probably Duraladon in the future too). It's the possibility of Evolution (since the Gigantamax factor isn't seen by games except SwSh) that is the problem. The Gigantamax factor is maintained by HOME just fine for other Pokémon.

The best solution spinda is just to allow us to transfer with a warning. the underlying code. Is fine it's just how the game interprets it. Just leave a warning that when transferring spend it in and out of the game The spot pattern will change. Or give us the option to re-invert it. It wouldn't even be that big of a deal. It's a spot pattern. Each spindle has access to two spot patterns now. Even then a lot is changed, but a Pokemon when transferred from one game to another, so it wouldn't even be that big a deal. It's already a thing.

I tried to name my shiny Fidough “Sanallite,” but because “anal” is in the name, you can’t use this name. I had to adjust the first lowercase L into a capital i so it would ignore it and let me get the name I wanted.

@@luiz.h28 I looked it up and "con" seems to be French for "stupid" which I guess is offensive, and "sau" is German for "female pig"/sow, which I also guess is offensive 🤔

The name thing with cofagrigus and the other was stupid since if a pokemon was nicknamed or not is just a toggle in the PKM file and the game can tell automatically if a pokemon is nicknamed or has the official name. just nintendo being lazy
