I picked up a few PCIE adapters on amazon. I got the 1x to 16x but with a ribbon cable for different mounting options. These things are inexpensive and VERY useful!

Of course. If vendors would just use open back PIC-E slots. Most of this faffing about would not be needed. Its literally removing a tiny bit of plastic. These open back ones I normally only see in server gear. Consumer is very rare.

sometimes you lose pci lanes when you fill up accessory slots - the things they don't tell you lol!

The information is buried in the spec sheet or on the block diagram in the manual. The marketing department just doesn't want to advertise those limitations.

0:11 you're completely correct and I have a hacksaw and part of a card to prove it... I cut down a video card from 8x or whatever it was to 1x.. so it would fit in a server that had all 16x slots used...to get it to boot cuz of the stupid bios

If you have a steady hand and comfortable doing it, you can notch out the back of the pci port with a hot knife.

They must make m.2 adapters for that too? I bought an m.2 2.5GBe NIC for a 1L mini PC, but now I imagine I could stick my 3070 card in there somehow... 🤔
