Me: Instead of bread slices, I do sometimes use biscuits on ham, cheese, and bacon sandwiches. For me, biscuits/cookies are just hardened bread It's NOT weird... It's just unusual. =========== McDonald's once used steamed rice as bread replacement for their burger bun sandwiches as a promotional gimmick.

Yeah, seriously. I work in a liquor store. I get either locals coming back from vacation or vacationers visiting looking for something from 1500+ miles away and I gotta tell 'em, "Sorry, not only have I never heard of it (not like that's all that big a claim on its own, given that my own frame of reference is mostly one island in the Pacific Northwest) but it's entirely possible that W beer from X microbrewery in Y city, Z state, might not be distributed this far away." At least most folks are cool about it, but some people insist that we're holding out on them or otherwise specifically trying to inconvenience them. I'd love to make everyone happy, but down that road lies piles of expired products followed by bankruptcy.

Had that happen too. A general store I was working at was closing and one of the last days we were open, my store manager brought all of the employees some nice framed artwork that she had from her previous job (she used to own a shop where she would frame paintings, prints, etc…) to give as parting gifts. The framed artwork was leaning against the wall under a sign that said Not for Sale, please don’t touch. Had a couple of women argue that because they were in the store they should be allowed to buy them. Then when they were refused multiple times, they claimed bad customer service was why we were shutting down. The store shut down because it was literally built because the district manager wanted a store near her home. It was NOT profitable in 10 years and alot of that was because it was in a low income part of town where there was ALOT of theft. Which we weren’t allowed to do anything about… in fact we were blamed when people walked out with hundreds of dollars of stolen stuff

I mean, in some parts of the world, they _do_ serve ice cream in soft bread buns...mostly in parts of Southeast Asia, if I recall. Like, you take a brioche or other type of sweet, buttery bread that will stand up to the ice cream melting into it, split it halfway, then serve a couple scoops of ice cream tucked inside of that little pouch you've made. A bit like filling a cream puff with ice cream instead of whipped cream or custard.

The gluten free cake thing reminds me of when I called to my local sandwich shop and there were 2 women being served in front of me. The server asked if they wanted butter in their sandwiches, one turned to the other and said, oh wait, X has a lactose intolerance she can't have milk, then her friend said yes, but it's OK, she can have butter! The server and I just looked at each other with wide eyes, when she just said, OK, no butter then as ours has milk in it. The 2 of them just went, oh, OK, thanks!!
@epa2113
@epa2113 26 күн бұрын
For the record, as someone who has to avoid lactose - butter actually has almost no lactose in it, and even less if it's cultured. The last step of buttermaking (washing the butter) removes almost all of the lactose... it runs off in the water & sweet buttermilk, very little is trapped in the solidified cream. If it's cultured, that reduces the amount of lactose even further. It ends up being very dependent on the individual. Most/many lactose-intolerant people can have butter with no real problem, and some can't. Ask, don't assume. If someone says they can have butter, they probably can. If they say they can't... well, let them know that there is such a thing as lactose-free butter these days (Green Valley makes one), but it's not common. Of course, these ladies were speaking for someone else... so it's a little less certain that they knew what they were doing. 😆

I'm confused. You said in this one you were 20, but I could swear there was a short where you said you were 19 years into baking. I can't really recall which one so I'd anyone can check me on that that would be great. Also yes you can pass as 17. Knowing nothing I would have guessed 21-23 with a bakers outfit, and 19 without it.

Multiple things 1. You have to be 21 to drink alcohol amd 2. She's only 20 and she owns a bakery? Wtf?

You don't have to be 21 in Ireland or many other countries. Only 18 in many places.

Do note in the US if you have a liquor license you have to be 19 to sell and 21 to buy

@@AnimationStation3000 do note that for some odd reason you can sell some alcohol if you have a liquor license but not others and I do not understand.

Not the baker's fault if the online order comes in wrong. That's the fault of the customer who placed the order.

Not having cookie sandwiches is really weird. You basically just take the frosting you put on top of a cake put it between two cookies and then sell it super simple.

The gluten free one might have been solveable. The person wanted a cake that can be enjoyed by anyone like normal cake. There are enough gluten free flour mixtures that would make a baked gluten free cake taste like any other cake. Maybe the customer was less weird than you thought. People without deeper knowledge sometimes have weird definitions of stuff. I usually ask for a definition of what someone wants if I think we have a misunderstanding. Maybe she thought all gluten free cakes taste strange or have no flour. 😅 of course there is another option to have only a small gluten free cake and a big normal one 😊

Wait, cookie sandwiches aren’t a thing in Ireland? They’re delicious. Literally take some ice cream and put it between two cookies. It’s delicious. You’ll be so happy.
