Emily's casual, "Oh hi!" when Brayden walked in on her being eaten by a lizard was funnier than it should have been. Meanwhile him trying to catch cricket escapees while Ed continued to pry the lizard off with scissors, and a third person filmed it all was a pretty good summary of what it's probably like to run a zoo lol.

@@Soph-xr4br Ah, good to hear that it's a useful tactic. I don't have lizards, only snakes, so I don't have any experience with lizards latching on hahah. But once I put one drop of vinegar in her mouth she let go instantly, and still ate her meal a few minutes later!

Yes more!!! You need a sign that says “X days since escape” on the naughty board. Maybe you should make a video showing how secure the venomous snake enclosures are so that people aren’t worried about them escaping. I’m sure it’s perfect and inescapable but I could see how future zoo patrons may want to see that they have an extra secure enclosure. Just a thought.

They did show off how they’re even more secure in the Justin timber snake video :3 they screwed on the light screen, triple foamed anything that looked even a little loose, has a 5inch glass overlap to prevent people from sticking fingers in, as well as double locks that only Ed and Emily have access too :3. Chloe just loves escaping and is super sweet (she doesn’t snap really according to some of Emily’s past videos). Notice how Emily’s hand placement on her. If Chloe snapped easily, Emily would not be holding her there but as far from Chloe’s head as possible. This video was just so much fun to watch!

Watched this with my dad a while ago and he agreed that the monitor bite was worse than a snake bite then added "but in my experience the crocodilia family is the worse to get bit by." Its the in my experience line that gets me. This is a man who when I was 8 years old ran into the middle of the road to grab a 4 foot rat snake to show me and my little cousins. A valid conversation we have is if we should adopt a snake but we have deemed our house was too busy for them. But anyway I asked him how he knew what was worse and he said he had been bitten by a snake, a monitor, and a small alligator.

That was fascinating. Also, make some bits of wood that slot into the holes in the pallet sides that fit into place tightly so animals don't go under there, and perhaps setup a few "ideal hides" which animals might be preferentially attracted to, might give you an easier time of finding them when they do get lose.

Hi Emily, Ed and SD crew! Would you guys ever be able to do a video on "weird, but benign" reptile behaviours?? If I ever saw my snake trying to mate with itself, I would immediately assume there is something neurologically wrong, and run to the vet. Maybe not a "weird, but benign" vid (as every behaviour relies on context and the animal itself), but possibly a video on some odd behaviours you have seen from your reptiles. Can be either common "odd" behaviours or random ones specific to an individual reptile. I think it would be helpful as A) these actions could be documenting patterns/ behaviours we have yet to learn about in certain species. and B) as a new reptile owner I am constantly overly worried about my pets health and wellbeing and maybe a behaviour new owners may interpret as odd or worrisome could be something that is most likely a harmless quirk! Maybe you could just add them into these vids!
@lemolea9571
@lemolea9571 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think trying to mate with itself is indicative of a neurological issue (plus, if it was, Emily probably would have said) I think it's just because snakes are pretty stupid. My snake once latched onto a pair of tweezer tongs for 2 hours trying to eat them lol
@sophiehobley828
@sophiehobley828 2 жыл бұрын
@@lemolea9571 that's what they're saying - they would've initially panicked over that behaviour however clearly its not a big deal and are there any other things that might seem concerning that actually reptiles do commonly. The hognose twitch is one I can think of, although if you're getting as far as putting two hognoses together and don't know about the twitch then maybe you shouldn't be putting the two hognoses together. I really enjoyed this. Long before it was illegal to do so, my dad used to rescue wood turtles from the road and bring them home. We'd keep them for a few weeks on an enclosed porch before releasing them. They all had distinct personalities & food preferences - one ate nothing but strawberries, another loved bananas. One liked raw hamburger, one liked blueberries. We hosted one who took to climbing up the screen walls of the porch. They all acclimated to being handled, letting their legs & tail tangle when picked up - they almost seemed to enjoy the view. My dad's long gone now, but I still rescue them from the road when I see them, delivering them to whichever side they seem to be aiming for.
