I first saw this version many years ago and it remains my favourite depiction of the novel (which I have read many times). Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think you have missed the mark with yours. The "weird" scenes are meant to show how the heroine's uncontrolled imagination runs wild, leading her to totally misread the true circumstances of the people she is with. Luckily, in the end, her solid and very Austen-ian upbringing helps her to common sense (with Mr. Tilney's help). I'd watch this film again in a heartbeat. It remains, along with the Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds version of "Persuasion", my favourite of the screen versions of Jane Austen's books.

Catherine looks like she's under some sort of mind altering substance, i couldn't get through the first 15 minutes. It's on Tubi as of yesterday🤣

This is my least favorite Austen adaptation ever. Period.
