For me, the weirdest is a tie between "The 5,000 fingers of Dr. T," and "Zardoz." The latter of which I saw once while under the influence of Timothy Leary's favorite substance. That was disturbing.

I met Henry Winkler when I was a teen at an airport. I was maybe 15/16 (1995/6), was sitting and gave him thumbs up not wanting to bother him since he seemed like he was busy heading somewhere. He actually stopped and walked over to start talking to me.

I too came across Henry Winkler at LAX. Late night, he was walking alone from one of the outer gates toward the street exit. He looked exhausted. The thought came to me to ask for an autograph or just say I like his work but he did not look up to it. I nodded as we passed each other on the otherwise empty walkway.

'The Lighthouse' isn't an excessively weird movie, but it was one of my weirdest movie experiences. Me and my cousin spontaneously caught a 3 o'clock matinee of it with no idea what we were going to see. There were only 4 people total in the room, nobody said a word, nobody made a noise. Attendants never came into the room. We all sat down, watched the movie, got up and left. We weren't sure afterwards if it had all been a fever dream or not. Still one of our favorite movies

I watched it in like 2023 after seeing references to it around and a friend talking about it. I can't stand how the only horror movies anyone recommends me are blood and guts and generally meant to be as viscerally upsetting as possible. I really enjoyed the horror of it being more psychological.

Hilarious...when I saw the title for this I actually thought, "I wonder if he's ever seen "Forbidden Zone with the little guy from Fantasy Island." I saw that movie in an altered state at a party when I was 19 or 20 and it disturbed me for life...

So, Astoria Oregon. I went there first as a training deployment as an Army Ranger (Camp Rilea is nearby), and then went back for a Top Squad competition a few years later (still in the Army). The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop were filmed there and it was also referenced in Band of Brothers. I even recognized landmarks from the movies as we drove through the town. I've been to other places where movies were filmed, but no other place had quite the same feeling of nostalgia and awe as Astoria. I would move there in an instant. I don't know why, but the memories are really fond memories (despite the fact that the experiences were some of the hardest things I've had to do in my entire life).

I thought I knew good movies thanks to my family, but my first year of architecture college had my class learning about human culture and its intertwined relationship with architecture. One way we did that was watching classic movies, and watching films like Citizen Kane, Once Upon a Time in the West, and the Ten Commandments. This class blew my mind and remains one of the coolest moments of my college life

"Mad God" is definitely the weirdest movie I've ever seen, closely followed by Eraserhead, as well as "Fantastic Planet" and "Gandahar" which are both animated films that were also quite weird.

Capra's "Meet John Doe" and Wilder's "Ball Of Fire" are two great pre-war films pairing Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper. Barbara's acting is always astounding - the directors always made sure they got an early take with her, because she always has zany spontaneity in her expressions, that can't be repeated. Like the priceless look she gave in "Ball Of Fire" before she went to stand in the sunlight for Gary Cooper.

I was on a set one time with Henry Winkler, and yes, he's nice and very generous, we chatted for a bit waiting for the crew to set up. Didn't ask him about the shark.

From what I've heard he actually did that stunt himself. Winkler was an avid water skier. So it was a skill he possessed outside of his acting and they incorporated it into the show. But I've also heard he can't actually ride a motorcycle. So you never see Fonzie ride one. Although I think once he pushed one?

I have to agree with the black and white movies that just impressed me so much. They didn't have cgi or special effects or sometimes even much budget so they made their stories grab your interest. One of my favorite movies of all time is the Henvy Fonda version of '12 Angry Men' ; filmed as a stage play over two scenes, in black and white (don't ever try to watch a colourized version) and just let the actiing tell the tale.

They had special effects. The earliest movies mostly relied on gimmicks. While artists experimented with the media. The whole movie magic thing. There's a story about a scene in King Kong which was stop motion animation and in it a flower bloomed instantly. Because it was just taking so long to do the shots. That ruined that footage and they had to do it over. Everyone was like look at the magic flower! That took away from the action they were trying to film.

Almost coherent. It is pretty weird and on my personal list of weird but try Lisztomania 1975. If you thought that Russel's Tommy was weird this is WAY more so. Not better, stranger.

It took me like 6 tries to finally make it all the way through Eraserhead. I found that movie so boring and devoid of any value. I always wanted to know what others saw in it though so one time I was like, I'm going to watch this whole thing. There has to be something. If there is I never found it. I like Lynch's other movies but Eraserhead? Nope, you can keep it.

Henry Winkler is a great actor because he is nothing like Fonzie. Well, Winkler could water ski. And that's where jumping the shark comes from. As far as I know he actually did that. But he couldn't ride a motorcycle. Which was a problem with the show. Fonzie was supposed to be a tough guy that rode a motorcycle and Henry Winkler was none of that.

For weirdest movie, I'd give an honorable mention to Rubber (a psychic tire). However, my top pick is Death Trance (starts as an odd Edo period movie until the bamboo bazookas, machine guns and motorcycles show up and it gets much weirder after that).

Clive Barker made a couple early films with some college friends in the 70s that were finally released in the late 90s. 'Salome' and 'The Forbidden' are very strange offerings. One thing I noticed was that he had a board with a grid of nails in it and was doing these artsy shots playing with light and shadow across this grid of nails. Immediately I thought how he had finally taken that concept to its completion when he created Pinhead in the Hellraiser movies and wrapped the entire head of a character in that nail grid.

"Fantastic Planet" is definitely on my list of so weird it's almost painful movies. Someone once said that every frame of "Manos Hands of Fate" looks like someone's last photo and that absolutely tracks. You forgot to say that "Forbidden Zone" was a musical.

The sound design on The Trial is so good at making you feel alienated. It sounds like they looped the entire film, so it's foley and very little nat sound. It almost sounds like it's underwater.

I actually had a similar experience with a celebrity. I drove from Fresno, CA to Las Vegas, NV to see a "Weird Al" Yankovic concert. As I was waiting outside for the venue to open up, I saw Teller (of Penn and Teller) hanging out and talking to someone. I wanted so bad to go up and meet him but I also didn't think celebrities really like to be bothered while they're just trying to have fun (although I'm sure he would have been gracious about it) so I opted just to leave him be.

For favorites, The Philadelphia Story is also up there on my list! You'd think there's nothing about it that younger Gen X guy would like. But I was hooked the first time I saw it. The heavy sarcasm helped (most of my 30s and 40s favorites are loaded with that). But as you say, the acting is incredible, the scenes are beautiful, and it draws you in.

OMG, Book of Lists! I loved those so much when I was growing up, especially during my preteen and teen years (I'm 58). I saw Forbidden Zone in 2009 at the Egyptian Theater with Richard Elfman doing a Q & A. Wonderfully trippy. Zardoz is pretty weird, too.

Also, Katherine Hepburn was someone who had chemistry with a lamp post. Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart were incredibly charming and charismatic, so the three of them together just lit up the screen.

As soon as I saw the title of the this video I thought.. Forbidden Zone. In 2000 it was really difficult to find but ended up I ordering my VHS copy directly from Richard Elfman through his website. It was a high quality dub with handwritten labels and signed by Richard Elfman. If you've never seen it, Forbidden Zone is a manic black & white 'R' rated live-action musical that takes heavy influence from early Max Fleischer cartoons with music by The Mystical Knights of the Oingo Boingo and is a fever dream of weirdness. It's definitely not for everyone but I love it and find it hilarious and the music is super catchy.

LOVE _Philadelphia Story_ - often quote Tracy Lord's drunken "Hello, George!" Boulder, CO, not only has the _Mork & Mindy_ house (I drove past), also for the National Center for Atmospheric Research which has super cool displays AND was in 1973's _Sleeper_ climactic scene. The movie location I've visited that jazzed me the most was the elevator foyer in L.A.'s Biltmore Hotel, aka _Ghostbusters_ Sedgwick Hotel. "Bite your head off, man."

Adam, I can totally relate to "not wanting to bother'. When i was in grade school, I was walking to school, and there at an intersection they were filming a movie with Bette Davis. I stayed there watching for a little while, she approached me, and asked if I knew who she is. I said yes, and she asked why I didn't ask her for her autograph, and I said "I didn't want to bother her." (I should have asked for her autograph.)

my first "a movie was filmed here" was a baseball field in Chicago my friend stopped me in the the park and said "do you know what move was filed here?" I replied "no" he told me "This is the spot where they filmed 'About Last Night' " I suddenly remembered the scene and was like "Whoa!" I also got a kick seeing "The Relic" since I visited the Field Museum many times!

Love movies. Love cosplay. Wish i had more time to spend on both. Used to pour through Leonard Maltin’s movie guide looking for new movies to watch. Harrison Ford can do no wrong and i will watch anything he has ever appeared in and would be fine with him reading the phone book on screen. Loved Citizen Kane and Freaks. The eraserhead baby has got to one of the most unnerving moments in film next to some acts in John Waters movies.

The whisky bible is a great read, released yearly with many world whiskies getting a score out of 100. Some of my favourite whiskies have been discovered from browsing these lists. The highest rated new listings are at the front which is handy, many reviews are from previous editions so you don’t need to update yearly. Jim Murray must have the toughest job, getting through all those samples!

My favourite weird animated movies have to be Wizards by Ralph Bakshi, and Fantastic Planet. For live action the Weirdest movie I've seen is Holy Mountain, but my favourites would have to be Stalker, and Simone of the Desert.

I didn't catch him on the bridge of the Arboghast the first time round. It was only when I was rewatching the show that I heard him speak and saw his face, realizing that he was on the show.

You would not have bothered Henry Winkler at all! My wife and I met him at the first Wizard World in St Louis. He took ample time with everyone in his line and seemed truly interested in us. I tell people that talking to him was like talking to a therapist. I would love to see him again!

Two movies that stood out for me, now knowing anything about the movie before I started watching, not even the name; From dusk to dawn.. it took some abrupt turn from what I expected... and 13 ghosts.. it's like a horror movie made by disney :P

Another HM for weird movies: 'Bubba Ho-Tep" I love the synopsis: After falling into a lengthy coma following a freak accident involving hip gyration, a now aged Elvis Presley wakes up in an East Texas nursing home, where he befriends Jack, an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy. After residents of their quiet retirement community start dying of dubiously unnatural causes, Elvis and Jack discover that the perpetrator is Bubba Ho-Tep, an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.

Oh man. Just thought of “Basket Case”, something I sort of experienced by proxy when my eldest watched it during the day and I was in the other room. So unsettling even though, if I recall correctly, it was pretty cheesy. I’m not a massive horror fan but my daughter is so I’ve ocassionally been an unwilling vicarious viewer of some pretty weird films.

As a Clevelander, I feel obliged to point out that not only was a lot of Winter Soldier shot here, but a lot of the third act of The Avengers, too! I remember being at a very large showing of it and people cheering when they saw some of the local landmarks.

I did a video about my pre-internet reference books. Halliwell's Film Guide was definitely in that list, as was Brewer's Phrase and Fable. I also managed to find 3 old reference books that still (just about) beat the internet.

Golden Retriever was a fun one witn good categories and what is kind of a precursor of the tag system of searches. I worked in an independent bookstore from ‘86-93 and has access to a cool variety of film references.

I found out recently that Eraserhead was one of Stanley Kubrick’s favourite films. As a huge Kubrick fan I need to watch it again to try and figure out why, since I’ve only seen it once almost forty years ago and my impression wasn’t great.

Not sure I've seen a ton of weird movies, but one that comes to mind as unexpected if not weird is Bone Tomahawk. Not in a bad way. It's a unique and great movie

One of the stranger films that leaps to my mind is Ken Rusell's Lisztomania. It makes his film Tommy look like a mainstream rom-com!

I think the film I saw which was the weirdest mismatch between expectation and delivery was Toys with Robin Williams. It makes Terry Gilliam look rational. And Babe 2 Pig In The City was such a gear shift from the first film that it least deserves an honourable mention. For classic films check out Key Largo with Humphrey Bogart. It's a classic for a reason.

Apocalypse Now is probably my most favorite movie of all time! The story is bizarre as a whole, the cinematography is epic, and the cast is amazing! I think the 3 other movies that impacted me the most were On The Waterfront (1954) with Brando, On The Beach (1959) with Gregory Peck, Anthony Perkins, and Ava Gardner, and The Deer Hunter (1978) with De Niro and Christopher Walken.

I saw Dead Ringers in a repetoiry theater owned by the people who also owned the bookstore where I worked. I went by myself after work one day, I think because at the time I had a bit of a crush on Jeremy Irons due to Brideshead Revisited” (long since extinguished). It was so fascinatingly disturbing outside of my usual taste. I wound up watching it one more time when it came out on VHS and that pretty much got it out of just system. “Sisters” witn Margot Kidder is creepy in a similar,if less graphically visceral way.

Surprosed no one has mentioned the short film from the anthology Trilogy of Terror featuring Karen Black. And the crazy thing is it was made for TV. Sadly, the show did not live up to the promise of the original movie.

I don't remember what it's called, but there's an Australian zombie movie in which one of the characters (the Han Solo type rugged antihero) is poaching fish and gets into a fistfight with all the zombie fish in his boat, and in the third act the whole thing left turns into an alien abduction story. Hands down one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen, have no idea how I stumbled on it, but I absolutely loved it.

. . . Speaking of Christmas movies . . . For the first time last christmas I had the pleaasure of watching the film "White Christmas". It was on some channel on repeat for the whole day and I watch it 1.5 times. No one every mentions the military ending for some reason. That itself changed my whole thought process of what the movie was about.
