It is said that he got permission from Tolkien to play in a movie version of Lord of the rings but I really doubt that because he wasn't acting back then. Maybe he met Tolkien again when he was acting. Great Video! I love Sir Christopher Lee and everything he has ever done. He truly is the most interesting man on earth. I would have loved to meet him.

Because these celebrities got to fame and wealth without much effort. It was a lot of luck, then good communication. It's easier to fantasize about that kind of life. It seems more accessible. When you look at Christopher Lee, you see a man who not only has impeccable manners and is quite the gentleman, you see a nazi killer, a spy, a metal writer, an iconic actor. There is nothing to hate about him, and he just succeeds. A lot of people might envy him for what he did, but it seems like it would take a hundred lifetimes to even come close to his achievements. He is a reminder that some people are just better all around. It's easier to dream about winning the lottery of life, so that's what the media sell instead.

You left out my favorite anecdote from the Return of the King behind the scenes. While filming Saruman's his death scene on top of Isengard, Peter Jackson directed Lee to yell out in pain when Grima Wormtongue stabs him from behind, to which Christopher responded "Have you any idea what kind of noise happens when somebody’s stabbed in the back?" Peter Jackson, not being a murderer, said, well no. "Because I do." Lee said, and went on to explain how when a man is stabbed in the back it forces all of the air out of his lungs and results in more of a wheezing sound than a scream. To which Peter Jackson, probably terrified, said something to the effect of "Oh, well, do whatever you think is best then". So, regardless of secrecy, we have pretty solid reason to believe that Christopher Lee preformed at least one stealth kill on some clueless Nazi guardsman, which makes me very, very happy.

I believe it was in early 2002 I was going about my day listening to the radio. When the announcer came on they said “up next we have film actor Christopher Lee, you’ll know him as Gandalf in lord of the rings, magneto, in X-men etc” I was confused so I called the radio station and said who are you having on? Because you said Christopher Lee, but you named off Ian McKellan’s filmography. The screener said shit!!! It’s lee but someone gave me the wrong research, I said I’m something of an expert on his career and I can help, he said thank you. And asked for my number in case he had any questions. The time passed Mr. Lee’s interview went on all was well. Less than 5 minutes after the interview my phone rang I answered and heard “Hello is this Aaron?” In his unmistakable baritone. Turns out the radio station asked if he would call me as a thank you. It was less than 5 minutes. But even in that time he told me something interesting, this was right before Star Wars came out and the web was abuzz with arguments about how to pronounce Dooku. And I asked him he said “that’s interesting because everyone on set is pronouncing it Doo-Koo but it’s based off of the Japanese word Doku meaning poison which is pronounced D’ku. Which was pretty neat because that’s how yoda wound up pronouncing it. Such a wonderful actor. I’ll forever miss his presence!

Wow that’s a really cool story , i’m not trying to one up you were anything but here’s a funny story that happened to me. Along time ago when I was younger my mom worked at American Airlines at the ticket counter, she still does but whatever LOL, but anyways she was clocking out for lunch and the rapper 50 Cent came up with this whole Crew , they were running late for a flight and They asked my mom to help her out, so my mom was like sorry guys I’m going on break and I have to wake my kids up for school so 50 Cent said to her here give me the phone I’ll wake them up and you could help us out lol so my mom gave him the phone and she started fixing their tickets or whatever and it was kind of an awkward talk with him but he sounded like a pretty cool dude , I remember being late oh wow you’re 50 Cent ? And he was like ya yup that’s me man and I was like oh wow that’s cool I think I have one of your Cd’s and he was like o Thanks bro well here’s your mom and I said ok see ya . My mom always meets a lot of famous people at work and she always tells me which ones are super nice and which ones are assholes. It’s like a blessing and a curse cause when she tells me someone I like is really nice it makes me like them even more , but if she says they were rude I don’t care for their stuff anymore lol. Well if you got this far have a nice day & thanks for sharing :)

In 1994 I was in Cannes covering the Film Festival for an Australian newspaper. I was in a hurry for an interview that I was late for but had run out of cigarettes. I saw a Tabacs shop across the road and dashed toward the shop; just before I entered the building I hit something that felt like a metal pole and went base over apex onto the red carpets they have on the sidewalks in the main street during the festival. The seemingly immovable object I ran into was, indeed, Sir Christopher Lee as he exited the shop. I clearly wasn't looking properly, distracted by crossing the heavy traffic. A large pair of strong hands helped me to my feet and this man started to try to clean me down. (It had been raining and in Cannes there are a large population of small French poodles... you work that one out for yourselves). Once to my feet I realised, gobsmacked, who I had literally ran into. He was so kind and apologetic even though it was my fault, "Oh, my dear chap, I'm so terribly sorry etc." As soon as I spoke he deftly picked up on my Australian accent and observed I was, "...a long way from home...". Firstly, I gushed and told him I was a film critic and that one of my all time favourite films was 'The Wicker Man', and that I'd met Edward Woodward in 1980. (I think he almost blushed.) Not wanting to miss the opportunity of a life time I blurted out a request for an interview. I told him I was 'stringing' for one of Rupert Murdoch's Australian papers. This cut short that idea. Sir Christopher told me he wasn't too keen on Mr Murdoch and apologised. He did suggest, however, that as it was nearly lunch time that we share a quick aperitif at the nearby Petit Carlton. He had a Dubonnet and I had a G&T (He paid.) We chatted all too briefly, after I promised our little meeting was 'off the record'. We were both extremely late for our appointments so we parted company. I've interviewed big movie stars, well known actors and directors but, apart from the gorgeous Audrey Hepburn, my 'run in' with Sir Christopher Lee was truly one of the highlights of my time as a film critic. I was deeply saddened by his eventual passing. What a wonderful, intelligent, witty man and what a true gentleman in every sense of the word. RIP Sir Chris. BH

It's an anecdote, but one of the most interesting things I'd heard that tied into his time as a proto SAS soldier; during the filming of the Lord of the rings trilogy, during the filming of Sauramans death by stabbing there was a moment when Peter Jackson was describing the way he should behave and move after being stabbed. Apparently, Lee paused and told Jackson "I know what a man sounds like when he's stabbed in the back"
