The only part that indicates that it might be a sense of pride/greed of power and that Auto made itself the captain of the ship with no plans to give it up is during the pictures of the various captains. In those pictures Auto goes from the background to moving closer as it's taking over and giving itself higher importance. The captain when looking at the four pictures sees Auto moving forward with each picture. However while possible visually clued in it's never stated outright so up for interpretation.

I refuse to believe Wall-E would ever have murdered all the other robots. Given what we see of his personality? Nah. He’s just not a killer. But if I were the last human left alive on earth? …Yeah, I could imagine salvaging (well okay then, plundering) the goods and property others had left behind- clothes, furniture, &tc- in order to continue my own existence. That’s really all our protagonist is doing. He doesn’t actually eat them, so this does not count as cannibalism, in my book.

I love this movie! It's so good! The Axiom is the largest of a whole fleet of ships. There are probably still others flying around in space with the rest of the human population. Also, the end credits montage was added in to assure people the the humans will survive because some test audiences thought all the people were going to die on the desolated Earth.
@nathanielreik6617 Жыл бұрын

The funny thing is, there is an actual short called Burn-E, of a background robot named Bure-E trying to fix an antenna outside the Axium that Wall-E broke from when he touched the glowing rocks in space (The ship was moving fast and since Wall-E's hand moved one it accelerated and full on collided small explosion the antenna.) And it's hilarious. He gets like 3 to 4 spares but he either breaks or replaces the antenna repeatedly. He keeps fixing it, and it keeps breaking, and you can see his dejection/embarrassment when he has to report back to the robot who gives him the spare antennae, Supply-R By the end when they land on earth he is overjoyed on FINALLY fixing the antennae, he cheers and dances and everything, until the roof that Eve blasted off landed EXACTLY on that same antenna.

For those who don't know, the A113 Easter egg is a reference used in most Pixar movies, and is significant because that's the name of the classroom some of the Pixar filmmakers have studied in CalArts (examples being John Lasseter and Brad Bird).

Fun fact! 'A113' is the number of a classroom at the famed California Institute of Arts where the first generation of animators studied graphic design and character animation in the early 80s, proceeding to work at leading animation companies like as Disney and Pixar! Students who have used the classroom include John Lasseter, Tim Burton, Michael Peraza, and Brad Bird. It has appeared in other Disney movies and almost every Pixar movie have used A113 in cameos!

Notes: @ 9:26 "Only 600,000 people survived?" The Axiom was the flagship of the fleet, but not the only ship. There were an indeterminate number of other ships too. (This is explained at the beginning in a BNL video billboard. "Ships leaving daily....") So we do not know how many survived in space. @ 11:45 "A113. What does that mean". This is the most common Disney/Pixar Easter egg - appearing in almost every Pixar film. It is the room number at the California Institute of Arts where most of the animators studied. @ 12:30 "The recycle, reuse, and re-eat". This is a very good point. But it raises a serious plot hole when we see how much trash is regularly discarded into space later. If they had been doing this for 700 years there wouldn't been anything left on the Axiom - unless they had some off-screen mining operations to bring in new material. Also we have to assume they conquered nuclear fusion for unlimited energy. @ 18:32 "The steering wheel has secretly been the boss the whole time". Not the boss, but slavishly following his last official directive from earth: "Directive A113. Take full control and do not return to earth. I repeat, do not return to earth." This is not unlike the psychosis that the HAL 9000 computer suffers in 2001 A Space Odyssey (which we see referenced in the music accompanying the captain's first steps on his own). In that movie HAL was instructed to withhold the true nature of the mission to Jupiter from the crew, which cause him to become a murderer. @ 23:20 "There were more plants? Or was it a time skip?" it is not clear, because that is the beginning of the credits in which we definitely do see time skips, ending with a huge tree growing from the "shoe plant", and of course Wall-E and EVE relaxing under it. But I tend to think those other plants were there all along. It is just that the movie up to that point had been showing the urban area where Wall-E had been doing most of his clean-up. He was not specifically looking for plants like EVE was. The one plant he does "collect" may have attracted his attention because of the unusual surroundings - a metal box that needed to be laser-opened. Perhaps Wall-E saw the occasional weed on his travels but never bothered to take note of it.

I love this movie so much, it's honestly a masterpiece. I don't believe Wall-E's a murderer. He's just the only one that some how developed a sense of self preservation, so he did what he could to survive. Here’s an extra dark about aspect of the movie. Wall-e has been on earth for 700 years, and during that time according to the graphic novel “Wall-E Recharge”, Wall-E never actually did a whole lot of work at first. He spent most of his time exploring and finding items in the trash. Then as time went on, one by one he began to see his brothers start to wear out, and soon one by one, they all began to die left and right. What’s even sadder is that after he and his remaining brother hide in their truck during a sandstorm, wall-e wakes up, but his last brother doesn’t. Suck as a lifeless cube indefinitely. So, Wall-E realized he had to actually start doing his job, and in order to survive, he was forced to strip his deceased brothers for parts, allowing him to remain alive for the next 700 years. Pretty dang dark when you think about it. What’s even more messed up is that in the novel, you can see just how exhausted and deteriorated some of the other Wall-E’s are before they start to die, while Wall-E himself looks like he’s in near mint condition. You should definitely take a look at the graphic novel if you can find it. It’s basically the only prequel they made. Other than the opening to the PS2/PC/PSP version of the Wall-E videogame.

So, wally survived because of his deviation from his own robot directive. The robot's only job is to collect and compact trash. They probably were given very little in self repair code. However, for whatever reason Wall-e did deviate. So, while the other robots have fun out of gas, or lost tires or their sun lamps stoped working.. With Wall-e's curiosity, he's figured out how to keep himself repaired over the years. Where the other robots didn't have the drive too. Since they didn't end up with whatever glitch caused Wall-e's personality
