I regret that my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz, appears to be just as bad as Columbia University. As a moderate liberal, I was disgusted after the recent antisemitism incidents at universities to find out that the whole ethnic studies program at the University of California is antisemitic. The UC ethnic studies faculty council objected to referring to the October 7 attacks as terrorism and ask the UC Regent to not refer to the attack that way because doing so encourages Islamophobia. At the same time, they said nothing about antisemitism.

As an international student from Ethiopia studying in Israel, whenever I talk about the Jewish people, I often shed tears. Every time someone asks me about my experience in Israel, the first thing that comes to mind is their kindness and hospitality. According to the Bible, Israel is the most precious or holy land in the world, but from my experience the people are more precious. Actually, I can't express how I really feel about them! I could simply mention how they treat anyone on the street if it could at least describe them a bit about what kind of people they truly are just in normal day to day life. Of course, they are always willing to help anyone in need, but also in simple matters as well without even knowing you and you didn't ask for it. In fact, they may even ask you to help in carrying your grocery bag from the market, regardless of your age or race or any thing else. One of my greatest wishes for my country is to be a land of freedom with a kind, civilized, strong, and very precious HUMAN BEINGS nation exactly like Israel! I support LGBTQ rights, but the irony is that out of all the Middle Eastern countries, Israel is likely the only one where LGBTQ people can live openly without fearing prosecution or their lives. Tel Aviv is a very popular gay tourism destination and attracts such people from around the globe. This is something I didn't see in any of the surrounding countries. I don't think they are welcome.
