I've got no problem with an Aboriginal person reading out a short welcome when I visit an Aboriginal site or attend an Aboriginal event... But being welcomed to a public place I already regularly attend, and probably know more about than the young white person telling me about it, I just roll my eyes. And dont get me started on the smoking ceremony thats completely incompatible with my Christian beliefs. Anyone asks me to participate in those, I'm just going to say NO and leave.

"Welcome to country", as displayed in the video with a smoking ceremony is Paganism! *Forcing any spiritual beliefs on to others is a disgrace in a free society.* Imagine if the Catholic church *forced* an incense ceremony *on everyone* before they could perform any public event! That would not be tolerated. _And I don't hold anything against the Catholics, or the Aborigines..._ *I informed my children's school, that they will not be attending any religious/spiritual events held in "NAIDOC Week", as it is an affront to our culture. We are Pentecostal Christians, and don't **_force_** our culture onto others. The school complied. My kids, and a few others did their normal school activities.*

I found it bizarre at the end of the year to be sitting in the local high school hall, being welcomed to that country by a primary school kid and teacher for the primary school awards day. I attended that high school, and spent many hours in that hall both as a student sitting through assemblies, and as a technical guy for events held there. I know more about the history of that particular land than either of the people who gave the welcome. So yeah, it really is like being welcomed back to your own house by a neighbour for no apparent reason.
