Michy, I am always impressed with how much work you get done. But often you scare me silly. Walking even with good footing with an axe behind your head with the cutting edge turned in is risky, but doing in snow / slippery footing is just asking for a guillotine incident. Looks cool but really dangerous. You should always carry an axe at your side with the blade turned out. Love your videos and would hate to hear of an accident like that.

Thanks for the heads-up, "sliding ladder " have been racking my brain with sliding under when in up position .pulley pulling up and towards outside and either a pull spring to pull it out on it's own or a compression system on the barn door arm which would require a ledger board to attach to ,mounted under loft to the edge and float the bar width plus 2" for a stopper.

I was prepared for snow like year with two gas snowblowers, electric shovel for the deck and steps. 47" snowblower on the John Deere Garden tractor. And no damn snow and record high temps. Hi Michelle. Another fun video. The ultimate shop build is both. A small one at the top by the house and a large one by the saw mill. "You can never have enough tools". My grandfather said that to me a few times. Walking back and forth for tools would be annoying, so put tools in both places. Should be able to use Steve's tools in the one by the house too. Ah, mid-winter in the West Kootenays... -10°C and deep snow at 7AM with 2PM temps of 10°C and muddy slush; rinse, repeat. And of course, the oh-so-Canadian -5°C outdoor cook out 'round the burn-barrel in 20" of snow... I do miss the Kootenays, but I don't miss the deep snow. Maybe fashion a wire frame, cover it with plastic and bury it with snow. As for those arm guns you kissed, nice, all that wood chopping keeps one rather fit. Oh, and loved that vintage snowsuit. So Michelle I just wanted to give you a little tip. I chop a lot of firewood. I mean a lot. It's a activity I really enjoy doing and I live in Florida. I just wanted to say I don't recommend chopping firewood so close to your truck especially with your truck off to either your right or left if anything turn your back to the truck or have the truck in front of you, but definitely don't advise having it to either one of your sides. I can't tell you how often I strike the wood and a piece gets launched sideways. I have a sheet metal shop and well let's just say it's got some dents lol.

On Bushradical he built a ladder for a loft out of 2x4s. The ladder is fastened to the roof rafters with two gate hinges. The ladder can be stored above your head with a simple hook & eye, This was on the latest small cabin he built in Michigan. This ladder is so simple an works. Ypu could cut the pieces for the ladder at home and screw it together on the cliff. Keep on building things. Sandy

Michelle, I've watched you use some tools in a way that made me wince. When you were making a dog house, you were ripping some "2-by" wood to make 2x2.You had the board on your leg and cutting free hand. If the board or saw slipped, you'd have a running circular saw aimed right at your leg. That could be disastrous, especially if you're a long way from emergency help. Put a railing on your cliff cabin asap. Slipping off that deck would wreck the rest of your day. I'm sure you know all this, but don't take chances. Be safe. Steve and the rest of us would appreciate it.

It must be a Canadian thing. When a snow berm separates you from a burn barrel, throw the snow blower into the berm and start there. Northern California has had a chaotic winter as well: cold, warm, wind driven rain, sunny. Nice romantic setup by the burn barrel.

Build the ladder at home using what is available and use thin planks of the cedar on the back of the ladder then when the ladder is mounted next to the loft or under the loft the cedar will be aesthetically pleasing, and you stay comfortable doing both.
