I like how you explain each contributing part of the throw. Your students also do a great job of demonstrating.

53 and struggling to learn Judo, helped by welcoming and helpful folks here in Korea. Your videos have been immensely helpful as well. I owe you some barbecue from Hayward's if I get back to my original home, or some Korean barbecue if you ever come over here. Until then, please keep up the great content!

Would it be preferable if tori had an "under hook"?
@welcomematstevescott Жыл бұрын
It's your preference, but this grip has a good rate of success.

@welcomematstevescott awsome, thank you. I am going for my 1st dan in November (been a 1st kyu for 15 years 🤣😂🤣). I have been advised to look at gripping and grip fighting. I know the Georgian system, but I don't understand the "Japanese method/ system " could you do a video looking at this ? Or a video on grip fighting and the pros and cons of the different methods??

Hi Coach, thank you for the video. Is oguruma good against a bent stance/freestyle wrestling stance?
@welcomematstevescott2 жыл бұрын
It could work, but Uchi Mata has a better rate of success against bent over opponents.

@@welcomematstevescott thanks for the reply coach, last question, which technique is has the best success rate against jigotai/freestyle wrestling stance from your experience? Thanks in advance
@welcomematstevescott2 жыл бұрын
Uchi Mata and Tai Otoshi work well against wrestlers. The best thing is to make them move. Wrestlers are heavy-footed and come straight to you. Make them move at angles and set them up for the throw.

What counters would be good against this technique?

Use a hip block and cut-away. We have videos on this on our channel.

It may sound basic but ending with the support leg like that helps a lot. I always liked O and Ashi Guruma but my support leg didn´t feel solid.
@welcomematstevescott3 жыл бұрын
Good point Nico. Basics win matches.

Can we do it if the opponent hand is holding your lapel ?
@welcomematstevescott3 жыл бұрын
You can, but this application of O Guruma works best with the right hand gripping uke's back area as shown.
@iamabean3 жыл бұрын
@@welcomematstevescott thanks sensei. I mean if the uke left hand is holding your lapel instead of your back as shown in the video will the technique still work . Thank u
@welcomematstevescott3 жыл бұрын
It will work from that grip. Be sure to pull uke's upper body as close to your upper body as possible when doing it.

I am having difficulty with Harai Goshi/O guruma. Whenever i go for it, I feel like my opponents leg (the one i am attacking) stiffens up, becomes heavy, and “locks” my throw, making it extremely hard to finish. Is this just from a lack of kuzuchi, or some other thing? Thank you!
@vwendlingmenasful3 жыл бұрын
Follow up question: Would it be effective to throw this off of Ko Uchi? Almost like a Ko uchi into osoto gari combo, but do ko uch into o guruma instead?
@welcomematstevescott3 жыл бұрын
This reaction from uke is indeed a lack of kuzushi. I suggest using a movement pattern such as Taisabaki to move uke into position.
@welcomematstevescott3 жыл бұрын
Good idea. The Ko Uchi Gari set up is really a movement to set uke up for the O Guruma. You are forcing uke to "open up" with his stance and as he tries to correct himself, this is the time to attack him with O Guruma.

That looks like Harai Goshi, that leg needs to get closer to the Obi and extended more across the mid plane
