I have used the Joico brand, and a couple of others, BUT..... my favorite brand is from Theorie. I first purchased a bottle from Marshall’s, found the companion conditioner, too. I have been using it exclusively. My favorite is the Sage scented, which is not always available, and so I have taken to ordering it online. My profile pic is from Right after chemo when I had no hair, it is a wig-I need to update it, I know! Purple shampoo really does keep your white and silver hair from looking dingy. Something I learned 20+ years ago if you have grey or silver hair, always pick a shampoo that is white or clear, otherwise the yellow from shampoo will stick to the hair shaft like a magnet, thus the yellowish color. Purple shampoo to the rescue!

I don't think the issue is having Gray hair. She's addressing the discoloration that can occur w/natural Gray hair. Purple shampoo brightens it & allows your true Gray to shine through. I have Alopecia & the tuft of hair I still have is 75% Gray. I use L'Oreal brand ( Ever Pure). You only leave it on for 2 min. I wash my hair once weekly. People comment on how bright & "Silvery" my hair looks. Aging is a Beautiful process - I doubt anyone who loves life is fighting the aging process 🙂.

I have been going grey since my late thirties, and white since my mid to late forties. I was dying my hair until my mid fifties. It was beginning too be expensive. Now I use l'oreal purple shampoo. It is the best one I tried, I did try several different brands.

This makes sense. I decorate cakes on occasion. When I need a bright white icing that I have made with butter, I've learned to add just a few drops of purple good color to make the yellow in the butter become bright white. Works great for white wedding cakes.

It is a smashing one of a kind guide for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the normal expense. Seriously though, I always keep an empty bottle and dilute any shampoo I use, I find it works so much better thinner and without the drying effect that a thick shampoo gives even purple shampoo.

Another gray hair blogger said that clarifying her hair also helps to brighten her gray. Everyone really needs to clarify. We get build up on our hair from minerals in the water, and silicones and other ingredients in our hair products. A good clarifying wash every other week or every month is good for all hair. Just ordered the purple shampoo.

I transitioned to grey a few years ago & had all color trimmed off. I later decided to cut my hair short. You have beautiful curls & think hair. With some brands you can’t leave it in for three minutes. Mine turned purple in some places even after numerous rinses, but I received a lot of compliments for the purple look. 😇

I've got long, fine, white/silver/grey/brown 2c-3b hair. My favourite violet shampoo and conditioner are Light Blue Shade. Very moisturizing, have a subtle and pleasant fragrance, and are quite inexpensive. It's a Canadian brand, and is available in stores and online in Canada, and online from a few sources within the U.S.

When I showed dogs we always bathed any dog with white fur or fur patches with a blue shampoo. Any other color will tinge the white/gray a dingy color. You don't need a specific brand of shampoo, but you do need a specific color of blue or purple if you don't want a yellow cast to your hair.

I was thrilled when you mentioned using purple shampoo. My white is white in the front, but the rest of my hair looked like I had a lot of blond hair. My natural hair is a brown color, use to be blond. I tried your shampoo and my white, white turned grey. Now all my hair looks like a dull grey. I set my timer and left it in three minutes. Wonder if purple works only for those with closer to black hair? Would it help if I try it again? You are blessed with your beautiful hair. Thanks for this video! I'm helping my mom embrace her grays. She has a color very similar to yours. Her grays stay white pretty well on her own but I think purple shampoo will really make it pop. I'm so excited to cut off her brown dyed ends (she hasn't dyed it since my wedding) and give her new color! Also a note, colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel cancel each other out. That's why purple shampoo makes yellow hair silver, blue shampoo is for orange hair. If you end up with a color that's too green, add red and vise versa. It's pretty fun!

Oh, Renee' Your hair looks shimmery! Even the dark hair looks bright! Your whole head looks shimmery! My dear mom lived with me and I spent most of my time making her happy when I retired. She attended directed socialization classes 4 days a week, and We got up at 7AM to get her ready and to class ten minutes away by 10AM. She loved it . When she was 4, she lost 3 sisters, ages 7, 8, and 6 months in 2 years. She and her older sisters had Scarlet Fever, and her baby sister's diagnosis was pneumonia. My mom had a fever of 107°, but recovered with no side effects. She was NEVER sick. So I made sure she looked beautiful her and her last years were fun filled. Of course, it didn't leave much time for me to get fixed up. I used to say I looked like her paid companion. I didn't care. Anyway, Renee' I used that purple shampoo on my mom! She had snowy white hair, but it would gedull, too. I noticed certain shampoos seemed to make her hair kind of yellow, also. I found if I left the lather kind of purple, her hair would look more silvery, which was beautiful. And if I took sections and rubbed the hair vigorously between my palms until the lather turned white, her hair looked like snow with the sunshine on it! I loved that stuff. She had this weird, wiry hair at her temples , about a 4 inch patch. She had a bob and no matter what, I could not get it to stay straighter and it made the front of her hair not curve or lay nicely. Did I mention I was retired? Uh-huh. I used to straighten my hair years ago. So i found a straightening kit for kids. So, I tried it. I was careful of her skin, and it worked, but in the process it turned that hair NEON yellow. My mom was NOT in front of a mirror. But I used some drugstore hydrogen peroxide and it took the yellow completely out, thank God.

I prefer the lavender tone conditioner. It doesn’t deposit so much color on the hair, and I can use it every time I wash my hair. Right now I’m using Redken Blondage. Rusk also makes a lavender conditioner, Deepshine Platinum X.

Why it works is because Purple cancels Yellow and leaves your base colour- white. So it works like a toner would if you dyed your hair. In the same way that Blue removes Orange and Green removes Red

I've been using Joico Color Balance Shampoo for about a year. My hair was completely white. I leave it on for about 5 minutes 3-4 times a week, though I shampoo daily. I now have a light lavender color and love the way it looks ‼️ My hair is thin and fine and the shampoo does not dry it out. 🧝

I’m just 5 minutes in… I was at a new hair girl a week ago. She stated that part of why grey hair looks dingy is because of rust on our water. She said if you have a water softener, it doesn’t get as blah looking. I haven’t researched what she said. Just passing it on. It makes sense to me. It’s not unusual to have rust in hot water heaters. 😮

I found my first grey hair in my early 20s. I had bleached my hair dark brown hair to bring out the red. Then in my 40s I started have dark highlights to help cover the grey. I then became so grey that a week out I would start to see the skunk stripe. Covid convinced me to color, then bleach, then color. So dark brown, yellow and the purple which looked a funky dark grey. My hair was lower than 1/2 down my back. I cut it, the my beautician cut it. It was so burnt and frizzy. I made another appointment in around 8 weeks. Shaved sides and back to #3 on the clipper and had her cut off all processed hair so I had maybe 2 inches on top. My hair is white with a little pepper. I grouse about it everytime I get it cut and she tells me women pay hundreds of dollars for your hair color. My brothers tease me about my grey hair, I tell ‘em at least it’s not going away.

Hello Renee, your hair is naturally spiced. Salt and pepper. Think of purple shampoo as blueing for your hair. Regular shampoo doesn't brighten your gray hair. Have a blessed day.

I am lucky, I get a lot of compliments on my hair which is not curly. I don’t do anything to it but clarify to get rid of Rocky Mtn mineral deposits. Hard water does it, pool water, air pollution. Just purge mineral deposits and keep clean. I’m 74 yrs old an my hair is dark brwn underneath, light brown,blond and white on top all in streaks and mixed in. I can’t understand all compliments. I think it looks weird. Oh well, I like it clean, wo product of any sort. I always wished for curly hair. Turns out it’s a lot of work! I'm so lost...most of my hair is white and curly. I struggle with my hair getting yellow. I am fully transitioned, it was recommended to me to try a toner...yeah..that ruined my hair. It has washed out, somewhat, now I look like a mix of champagne blond and white. I have tried so many purple shampoos, including the Joico. Frustrated beyond belief! Your hair is stunning!!!

I don’t need to keep my purple shampoo on for any length of time. I use the generic at Sally (cheaper than Clairol) and Clairol purple conditioner. I don’t recommend using it every time because my hair did turn purple after a while. It looked nice I guess. My hairdresser thought I was coloring my hair purple I find I don’t need any of that during lockdown. Some thing about the sun. I’m glad you mentioned the color wheel, because that’s one of the purple works. It’s the opposite of yellow For pulling your hair back, I highly recommend getting silk scrunchies.

Wow, just found you last night. I’m 56 and I’ve never heard of purple shampoo. Your hair and curls look amazing! My hair is naturally wavy to curly and dark brown but my gray is starting to come in pretty strong in my side burns and sides of my head. Even though I have 3 hair color products in the bath pantry I decided to go grey when I started watching your channel ( WE adopted a dog from the shelter (Pollux). I'm a smoker and noticed my almost white bangs were yellowish and daughter (hairdresser) told me that's nicotine MOM! Use Purple shampoo like I tell my smoker clients . I use L’ANGE GLACÉ cool toning shampoo and L’ANGE FROZE’ cool toning conditioner. They are both purple and are for gray hair.They are not drying at all. I love, love ,love them.

I started using Pro-Voke Touch of Silver. Brightening shampoo and Intensive conditioner. For Blonde, Grey and Silver hair. It as made such a difference. They also do one for coloured hair.

Color wheel example for what blue shampoo does to grey/silver/white hair is great. Blue shampoo is for dark hair that has been lightened or highlighted so it doesn't turn that orangy (brassy} color.

Hi Jennifer! So you probably aren't in need of purple shampoo just yet. But if you find that makeup is discoloring your temples, you might give it a try and see how it does. In the beginning, makeup was staining the white hair around my face. I started using a cotton headband to protect my hair....and still use it every day when I'm applying my foundation and blush.

I have a hand-held shower massage in my shower, and I use it to spray down the shower walls before I get out. So I haven't had any issue with the shampoo staining my tub walls. Used my purple shampoo today in fact!!!

I appreciate you taking the time to do this video. My hair is very similar to yours in color and curl, and I too like Joico. Have you tried Joico Color Butter in Titanium? It's a tinted conditioner that brightens the white-silver and deepens the darker hair. If I'm feeling like I want an even bigger boost than the purple shampoo I use it. I also like Biolage's purple shampoo as it's more moisturizing than the Joico shampoo.

Purple shampoo is drying, which is something we curly girls are always fighting. I was told to only use it once a month.

As I say in the video, it does dry my hair out just a smidge. But the brightening it gives is more beneficial so I simply use more conditioning products on shampoo day.

Susan Sisk Less drying than what? The reviews for this Joico shampoo on Ulta are very good, but there are also many reviews that said it left their hair as dry as straw.

SassyT all I can say is that I don’t feel that my hair is overly dry from using this product. Used one from Sally that was terrible. I use the conditioner that goes with it.

I am completely all gray and a lot of white now so I am going to try this asap just order from Amazon today and it is coming to me tomorrow, cant wait to try this as everyone keeps asking me what did I do to get this grey hair, nothing it just natural for me.
