Much obliged to you. Your videos filled many gaps! My welding has improved a lot since I watched them.

Thanks! I just completed my first welding course and there was just not enough instruction and information to fill me in on all the details. I actually get more info from your videos than I do from class.

I appreciate that. My main struggle was trying to tell if I made a good test plate using FCAW (dual shield w/ CO2). Plates I thought were good the instructor thought were not and I never got a clue about what to look for in terms of "likely to pass the bend test" on the finished weld. 3/8" Beveled plate 3G. Getting a smooth cover pass was a real challenge. I ran 21.6 320 .045 going vertical up. You rock.

out of all your shows i find Mig Mondays the most informative. sure would like to see some pulse spray stuff!! just got an everlast 251si and have a project coming soon where it would be nice to use that feature on it.

I am only a hobby welder but in my ears, the second attempt sounded better than the first with the suggested voltage.

The 2nd one is better sir. The 1st one do not have consistent sound.

Would you perfer mig 110v for applications where the weld is going to be under stress and weight or 230v mig for that type of application.or of course stick welding???

Would have liked to see if there was a difference in penetration between the different voltage settings. I would speculate that the higher voltage would penetrate deeper.

Curious of how the voltage affected penetration. To bad you didn't cut and etch.

Thanks. I often get a spit and sputter. I've played with heat and speed. Maybe my issue is a bad ground or dirty metal. 1) New steel like the plate you have here, did you clean it first with something to get any oils off of it? 2) would I need to grind a section of new metal to clamp my ground to? I don't have a welding table like this. I clamp my ground to the piece I'm working on.

Clean ground if when contact happens the wire doesn't arc if spattering BB all over everything turn up voltage or adjust nozzle angle maybe do a dab at the end to catch the spray if you're melting off the corner

With the second weld on lower voltage it has a higher crown and narrower profile. Can I assume there is also less penetration with this weld?
@Welddotcom
@Welddotcom 8 жыл бұрын
+Bob Humphries The penetration profile was actually very similar. The one with high voltage had slightly less penetration (due to the spreading of the heat). Any major differences, we chalk up to travel speed. We created a short clip of this same weld cut and etched, but wasn't completed in time for the release of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHWqoIiAab9mlbs

I like number three but would have turned up the feed just a bit.. and went with 22 volts for a nice penetrating fast build.

Esab 215 or Miller 215 and why? They are literally within $100 or so and seem to do the same things.

So why was the 3rd weld/pass popping and spluttering??
@mormonboy25
@mormonboy25 7 жыл бұрын
SAXONWARLORD1000AD my guess would be it was smothering the arc by melting the wire too soon in the puddle and preventing it from short circuiting and thus arcing
@mormonboy25
@mormonboy25 7 жыл бұрын
I would suspect that the last bead would have very low penetration due to decreased arc time

You may wanna check that machine, possibly the drive rolls. There is no way it should sound like that at those settings. At 23 volts, 326 inches per minute is still lots

What I didn’t like was your torch angle was tremendous, didn’t understand why you would weld at such an extreme angle. Not enough penetration with your torch angle.

23 volts is SPRAY ARC TRANSFER you need 90/10 gas or 98/2 gas .
@stickwelding247
@stickwelding247 8 жыл бұрын
+Defnotdemas that's why it made that spray sound it's a 90% argon 10%oxygen mix or a 98 %argon 2% oxygen mix which sprays 9ver the puddle making a clean weld
