Your didn't mention two things for newbies. 1) some electrodes contain thorium. These must not be ground on a belt sander because of the risk of inhaling radioactive particles. 2) Where exactly does the current run, and how best to avoid becoming part of the circuit. Using high amperage is scary for beginners and they will shake less if they are not worried about getting shocked. OK, so they should probably start with a stick welder but some start with TIG because they know it is best.

I’m so new I’ve not even bought a welding machine yet! I know people say a gasless MIG welder is the easiest to learn but I think I will be welding a lot of aluminium when I start. No one seems to like the spool guns too much and MMA is pretty dirty. Taking everything into consideration am I better going straight to TIG welding? Great presentation, thank you.

how do I calculate the amps on different types of metals?(stainless, iron.....) what happens if you use more amperage then you need?(hot) would I make a hole on the surface or break the machine?
@eastwoodco8 жыл бұрын
Using more amperage would increase the heat, so you would let off on the pedal to decrease the heat as you weld. There is a chart on the machine that will allow you to set it up correctly for the material and thickness you are welding.

After all the yrs. I'v welded I still don't understand The D C switch ! I know this may sound Like a STUPID ? 'but I'll ask it any way . Can you hook up a T I G to the Batt. of a car ' or Truck & Use that as your power supply ? If so would U have to switch the what I call finger's around inside the welder ???
@eastwoodco8 жыл бұрын
When the switch is on DC, the TIG will weld steel. When the switch is turned to AC it will weld aluminum. Some welders are only DC and will only weld steel. Some are AC/DC and will weld both. The Eastwood TIG welders operate off standard household current, either 120 or 240. I hope this answers your question.

I picked up a TIG200 and I love it. The hose from the bottle to the back of the unit is a little meh. The construction of the unit is really nice and the feel of the controls is really stable. The regulator is decent. I really like the torch and how it feels. The pedal is really nice as well. I bought it from you all while you had a sale. Shipping was quick. The part I dont understand is in your video you say that TIG welding takes both hands, so why do you offer a mask in it that is hand held? I am appreciate the free mask and Im sure when Im showing my son how to weld it will come in handy. But its kind of a waste for the company to include it. But the Unit overall is great and it can take a beginner from zero to producing quality work in a short period. Thanks for the vids. Im sure we will be buying more stuff.

Beginner TIG welder here. I got shocked twice earlier today. Instructor said it was from sweat (no air conditioning in 95 degree weather.) and I'm hoping that's all it was...Are there any other common mistakes that put you at risk for getting shocked? Again I'm new to this so I've got no clue. I've been stick welding for a year now and have never had any issues like that before.
@JBguitar-cj8pc9 жыл бұрын
Haven't gotten shocked lately. It was definitely the sweaty gloves
@beaker17369 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Brown If you have rings on your fingers take them off and yes sweat from gloves will and can shock you when im in class and tig weld i always try to make sure i bring a towel to wipe sweat or use my long sleeve shirt instead of my gloves

I don't wear rings but yeah I haven't been getting shocked lately fortunately. I've even had my gloves somewhat sweaty (I live in NC and its 90 degrees so sweating is inevitable). My instructor told us that if our filler rod comes into contact with the tungsten when it has arced up then that also can cause shocks. I'm thinking that was probably my biggest issue. My next issue is getting my beads to look good hahaha
@PapaCasual9 жыл бұрын
that can happen when like you said, your sweating but your probly leaning on something making yourself grounded while your changing out your tungsten. try not to lean on anything when you do that, might help.

Hi, Interesting video .Do you use a respirator and eye protection safety equipment when grinding the tungsten? We found that grinding tungsten with an electric or cordless drill was good except the chucks didn't last very well. They would bind up with the dust and tungsten grindings quite quickly rendering the drills useless. I stand to be corrected here but I believe the tungsten dust has radio active properties. That is why I asked about using a proper respirator. Quite sure there are tungsten grinders out there with built-in dust recovery systems.

Why cant you use 75/25 with tig? Ive been told that straight argon is for aluminum only Thanks in advance.

Talking about not being able, to see out of your mask, when using lower amp, mister tig welded two sheets of aluminium tin foil that you wrap your sandwiches with lol,and he managed to weld both of them together, and he was using only 3 amps 2 and a half to 3 amps but he was able to see, by swapping out the inside shield on his mask for better visibility, because tree arms you would not see through a normal mask.
