That is a cast steel eq. bar. You can tell by the lettering and the small, rectangle pad where they cast the date or individual serial number on the bar. A little big for a closed die forged component. High strength, quench and tempered steel. I used to make CAT eq bars for D9 through D11 at the steel foundry I worked at. Fun times. Love the vids. Keep them coming.

You did a fantastic job reparing that Your attention to the fit up shows your true craftsmanship in the trade. As an old retired welder the only advice i would give to you is get your projects up off the floor. There's absolutely no reason to be crawling around on the floor.

First video for me in ME USA. I did very little fab work but I welded 35 years with mig, pulse, stick, I also used that 3M Ad-flo welding hood for several years before retirement 2 years ago, I really liked it. Your like me, when ever I look at equipment I always look at the welds first. And I have to say your welding was good, I remember inner-pass temp being around 300 at most, we used temp-sticks, some steel needed to be 125 before striking arc......

It seems to me that you almost can’t f your setup up, the Machinist can put the final hole wherever he wants in that hunk of metal, you don’t have to be perfectly centered or square, hell, it could be a solid block and, like Michael Angelo said, you just knock off the stuff that you don’t need.
