Hey Weldon, Ziss are coming out with a smaller version early this year apparently. It will be better suited to small tanks, eg. shrimp tank. I think a lot of people would run it on a shrimp tank as the sole filter as you don't need a lot of mechnical filtration with shrimp. I think the larger version is a more attractive alternative to a sponge filter and is probably a little easier to clean than a sponge filter. Plus it looks cool when it's running, that's probably the most important thing!
@WeldonTanks5 жыл бұрын
Richard Manley I have to say I officially like these in place of a sponge filter where applicable. If they do create a smaller version I am itching to get my hands on it! I have two tanks that would be great to do some testing with a smaller version

Moving beds are excellent filters some countries use it in sewage treatment so cant be that bad, been using k1 micro for years. Great at removing Nitrite and Ammonia. Wont remove much Nitrate but your tank is planted so it wont matter. If Its used on a non-planted tank your going to need a cannister or other filter with a ceramic media if you want to bring Nitrates to a lower level. 50L of K1 micro is enough to treat 18000L of water its why people use it on koi ponds. 0.5L of k1 micro would be enough to keep a 180L normally stocked tanks water Nitrite and Ammonia free if giving time mature.

Filter looks like a reasonable competitor to a sponge filter. Which one provides more surface area for bio is unclear. Personally I do not like the look of a sponge so I may try a few. Judging by the size of the intake sponge on the Ziss, you will be cleaning that thing often. Water polishing ability is a function of how fine or course the intake sponge is. Good video dude, subscribed.
@WeldonTanks5 жыл бұрын
Allan H Thank you for the support and the comment! I am interested to see how the intakes perform long term So far so good
@Megatog6155 жыл бұрын
Sponge filter provides way more surface area by far, but it lacks the self-cleaning nature of the fluidized media and how old bacteria is knocked off to allow new, more effective bacteria to thrive. Essentially, the fluidized bed utilizes its surface area more efficiently, in theory anyway.

@pepperspa46555 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on this filter. Do you feel that this filter produces enough circulation to keep particulates moving and suspended so that they may be filtered or do you feel that some additional internal circulation pumps are needed to keep the particulates moving and then be filtered from the water?
@WeldonTanks5 жыл бұрын
Pepper's Pa if you have used sponge filters you will get the same circulation with the Ziss filter. I would recommend pairing this filter with a circulation pump or a hang on the back filter full of filter floss on tanks larger than 40 gallons.
