I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Albert Lee. My dad and him were band mates, and friends. I first met Albert while he played with Emmylou Harris & The Hot Band. He's so fun. Very intelligent, and a gentleman. He has a massive collection of comedy. The very BEST of English humour! He, and his gorgeous lovely wife, Karen lived in Malib-de bum bum. I miss those days. No one plays guitar like, Mr. Albert Lee. ❤️💥❤️

Thanks for sharing! I first heard of Albert during his time with the Crickets!! The album ‘A long Way From Lubbock’ should have reached the tops!! There is no justice! Like Sonny Curtis Albert is one of the most underrated musicians of this century! By that I mean they should have been given more coverage over the years on MSM! Because, I feel, they are special, beautiful well respected artists, they don’t make news!.. love ya Albert, you’re special mate 👍👍

Lovingly rendered. The keyboard work makes this version all the more haunting and ethereal. Hats off to Albert Lee and to Wayne Lee as well. Holly's music will live on.

Saw Albert Lee live with Ry Cooder and Eric Clapton in 1982-3. The Money & Cigarettes tour. Albert Lee is an amazing multi dimensional lead guitarist. Starting with Emmy Lou Harris and the "Hot Band," later sharing stages with Steve Morse. I'll never forget Long Beach Arena in 1982-3 winter show. He traded lead solos with both Clapton and Cooder effortlessly. In fact, while Clapton's blues solos stood out and Cooders slide playing were stellar. It was Albert Lees rock guitar solos that just were incredible. All the heavy hits of Clapton's tunes from Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and The Dominos were just hit out of the park when Albert spared into epic Rock solos. Only Peter Frampton reminds me of just how melodic and beautiful major and minor shifting solos can be played. Albert's technique is utterly unique in the pure rock solo department. And I date say having seen it in one night covering the aforementioned Clapton classics....? Very unfrequently, if at all, have I ever seen him repeat that sort of playing ever since. 45 years after seeing him with Emily Lou Harris which in itself was ultra killer country Cowboy Folk Jazz lap steel chicken picking heaven with Emmy Lou Harris and the Hot Band in the late 1970's.

Buddy Holly invented the completely self contained rock band no wonder he's still remembered especially by such greats as Albert Lee. He played lots of times for the Everly Bros I saw him during their last gig in Newcastle and they knew Buddy Holly - even played with his band. I wonder if they swopped stories? I notice he, despite being a virtuoso, used a capo on this song - to get the right feel as Holly did it that way. People don't realize just how good Albert Lee is but I think he's probably happy to have this workman like attitude to playing and forego the perils of being mobbed in the street etc.
