That's another interesting quirk about vision and the human brain. Our eyes are meant to notice the most important details, so the brain makes decisions on what what needs to be processed or not. All the slots in the inventory are the same, but they are noticeably lighter than the ones in the hot bar. So either all the slots have glass, or the main inventory is a slightly lighter and i just never noticed before and there is no stained glass. Edit: yess I was right. I can understand why people miss it if your not expecting it, but to not be able to see it when you know its there is pretty strange to me. I would like to say that its because i'm a tetrachromat and thus have an unfair advantage, but that only effects color vision, so im not convinced it can help with something like this. I examined a screenshot in MS paint in case it was green shifting it slightly like real glass or something, But (as cool as that would have been) it is only a luminosity change, the distribution of RGB stays the same even with YT compression weirdness. So my Magic eyes probably didnt help me.

There is something that is not mentioned in the top comments that matters in this. Depending on the type of monitor you are using, it maybe easier or harder to see the glass pane. So for those of us who literally cannot see it, we can blame our monitors because the color accuracy is not good enough to tell the difference. Or alternatively the way the screen produces its "white" color (backlit or pixel lit) can also change it. Even color burn in on screens can cause the issue. In other words... update panes.

I think the old gen console edition changed the glass panes to show a 3D texture in the hotbar, thus fixing the problem. You'd see the glass pane at sort of an angle, like all of the blocks. What's 3D and what's 2D? All the blocks are 3D, along with most other placrables. Most items, like food, tools, but also flowers, are 2D.

*Yes, you’re right. They are indeed very similar but not identical. I used a color picker from image to determine the Hex Code and RGB value resonating in slot 30 compared to another random slot. Slot 30 had a Hex Code of **#909090** and an RGB value of 144,144,144,255. On the other hand, the other random slot I picked that did not have the light gray stained glass pane had a Hex Code of **#8b8b8b** and an RGB value of 139,139,139,255. As you can see, these 2 colors are very similar. I used ChatGPT to determine the similarity percentage between the two colors by giving it both their Hex Code and RGB value. ChatGPT used a formula determined the two colors had a 74.07% match. I’m not sure if this is completely accurate, but that’s the only way I knew how to do it.*

If you zoom in very closely to a slot with a light gray stained glass pane, you will see the frame of the glass is ever so slightly lighter than the interior of the pane. Without the frame, it would probably be even harder to see the glass pane.

I checked with a color picker, all of your inventory slots are the exact same color, so I'm gonna say you lied. There is no pane. Edit: After using the color picker on the "2nd row 2nd slot" image the color values I was seeing were sus, so I went back and double checked. They're all panes. I used a color picker from image to determine the Hex Code and RGB value resonating in slot 30 compared to another random slot. Slot 30 had a Hex Code of **#909090** and an RGB value of 144,144,144,255. On the other hand, the other random slot I picked that did not have the light gray stained glass pane had a Hex Code of **#8b8b8b** and an RGB value of 139,139,139,255. As you can see, these 2 colors are very similar. I used ChatGPT to determine the similarity percentage between the two colors by giving it both their Hex Code and RGB value. ChatGPT used a formula determined the two colors had a 74.07% match. I’m not sure if this is completely accurate, but that’s the only way I knew how to do it.*

I got it in 4 seconds each: 9th slot and 30th. You can just rotate your PC screen and see it close to -45° to the horizontal to have a REALLY high colour contrast. So yeah. That's it.
