I see alot of people going over the basic explanation of what a primarch is, but i feel a bit more of an in-depth explanation may help. A primarch in 40k is one of the twenty genetically engineered sons of the emperor. Near the end of the reclamation of the solar system, the emperor began work on his primarchs. His goals were lofty, the re-uniting of mankind after the age of strife, and he knew he would need assistance more than any mere human could bring when it came time to conquer the galaxy. So, using his own dna he crafted 20 sons who would lead legions of marines of their own, each marine themselves augmented with their primarch's own dna. But, tragedy struck. The chaos gods breached the wards on the emperor's labs, and tossed the primarchs into the warp, hurtling them across the galaxy. This would lead the emperor to spend much of the crusade searching worlds, looking for his long lost sons. Each of his sons would grow up in a different environment, molded by its features and its people, and molding the world around them in turn. From the lightless crime ridden world of nostramo to the civilized peaks of ultramar, most of the primarchs would flourish, and all would be reunited with their father in time. Each primarch has one or more abilities that match the emperor's, making them a fearsome opponent on the battlefield. Magnus, for example, is the most psychicly gifted of the primarchs, so much so that he and the emperor communicated through the warp long before he was found. Inthe right build that first effect could get down right silly . for example pair it with Young Pyromancer and your going to very quickly have very cheap instant and sorceries

Past In Flames would be really good with this card as would the red and blue Defilers that just came out. As long as you make your deck in a certain way, you can just pay 2 life and maybe just one mana to cast some huge x spells, including ritual effects, then Past In Flame and do it all over again.

A new Mizzix - with just a few tokens can even go infinite with Reiterate and Desperate Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, or Seething song, then dump the mana in a 1 mana ping spell or any other direct damage spell (with reiterate again) - can even pull the full combo (Reiterate, desperate, and any 1 mana red ping) with Firemind's Foresight and even use any cheap tutor to pull that ;) Advantage over mizzix is that you can get some creatures/tokens set up before commander comes out rather than needing xp tokens, and the creatures/tokens can offer you some defense before you go nuclear

it's like mizzix, but burstier! Less consistent and capable of being completely wiped out by a board clear, but in an ideal scenario you could get much higher cost reduction much more quickly if you wanted some huge x spells.

So with tempt with vengeance the opponents wouldn’t put any mana into it. Say you put 5 into the x, the opponents would then get the option to get 5 tokens giving you 5 more tokens

Primarchs are a creation of the God Emperor embodying nearly the final stage of evolution of mankind. Transcendent super/trans human demi gods would be a good description.

If they didn't do a flavor fail, this should be a 6/6 or 7/7. As a human, he was one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy and then pretty much sold his soul to become a huge, monstrous demon with arcane power and knowledge. In game, Magnus would be the size of a Swarm Lord, but WAY more powerful. I think they failed there by making a Primarch weaker then Abaddon, which was only the 1st Captain to his own leader, a Primarch. Otherwise, his abilities are just fine, he is just on the weak side. It would have better represent the character to be a 6/7 Flying, trample, haste for about 7 mana and probably ward 3 as he, as one of the highest tier psykers in the game, can pretty much just nullify any psychic(magical) attack against him. Otherwise, in a vacuum, without the other game power level and flavor fail taken into account, its a solid card.

But the card should be a choice of sort, top bottom flip, where you either pay Red-Red (X something) or Blue Blue (X something) to cast either of the twins, representing the shift in tactics they use. Pay the cost to flip the card during the game too.

In 40k 8th edition, blade of magnus would actually "whenever a creature that was dealt combat damage by Magnus dies,". Unfortunately, despite being a shapeshifting daemon primarch with the powers of the warp... he is as tough as your fantasy wizard. As in, dies in a few hits.
