Last thing I'll say about Roy. He scored 119 points, i believe in the juniors. Was a beast with team Canada playing with Bedard. Was one of the top scoring rookies in the AHL and had a stellar debut with the Habs. What does this guy gotta do to get some cred? If it were ANYONE other than a French player, everyone would be salivating. True story.

I couldn't agree with you more! He was every bit as important to Team Canada as Bedard was. He's a complete player. I said it here before, and got laughed at, but I kind of see him as a potential Bob Gainey/Guy Carbonneau kind of player. 25 goals, 60 points, playing in all situations and making life miserable for the opposition. Not with physicality, so much, but with hockey smarts and 'compete'.

Y’all, our dream of contending for a Cup ain’t happening unless we add at least one genuine game-breaker to this lineup, and our odds of finding one as a UFA or via trades are virtually nil and slim, respectively. I hope Hughes throws everything he’s got at this draft to amp up the pipeline because the success of this rebuild largely depends on it. I’m a bit of a fanatic but I’d personally consider packaging next year’s first round pick to land Demidov. Soon, the prospects we draft will take too long to develop to line up with our competitive window (ie Suz/Caufield/Slaf contracts) and there’s a real chance we’ll get stuck as a middle-of-the-pack team again if we don’t play our cards right…
@powers1500
@powers1500 3 ай бұрын
There is nothing Montreal can do but to hope that Demidov falls to them. Trades don't usually happen at the draft within the top5. I totally agree with you that Montreal needs a game breaker/superstar and the only way to get him is via the draft...so they better be very lucky since they did not want to tank !!!
@babybabybabybaby
@babybabybabybaby 3 ай бұрын
@@powers1500Just because trades in the top 5 are rare that doesn’t mean they’re impossible ;) Given the general lack of consensus for the order of the 2-12 picks, if any of the teams picking before us don’t rank Demidov much higher than the other prospects, this draft would be a unique opportunity to drop a position or two and still get a player they want. Still unlikely, but less unlikely than in “normal” years provided the offer is sufficiently enticing… This draft is gonna be a fun but nauseating watch. 🤞🤢

@@babybabybabybabytrade in the top 5 are unlikely to happen because teams ask for a premium even just to drop down 1 rank which makes it not worth it. Also we don't need a gamebreaker has long as we stack our roster with a solid depth chart. Look at the Panthers, Barkov is their only player i would consider a gamechanger and they steamrolled Tampa, Boston and Rangers.
@babybabybabybaby
@babybabybabybaby 3 ай бұрын
@@jonathandrouin8717I won’t dissect the Panthers lineup in depth, but Tkachuk and Barkov are two of the best forwards in the entire league. They are game breakers, and their supporting cast are light years ahead of us. Lots of big, physical players who can skate. We need as many high end players as we can find, point final. And like I said, this draft is unusual in that there is only one consensus top pick followed by a dozen solid impact players. A team like the Ducks-if they don’t want Demidov-could surely be convinced to trade down two spots because there would still be a ton of great D prospects available to them at 5. I’m sure Hughes could make it interesting for them… Qui vivra verra ;)

That’s why I don’t think Hughes will make a trade for a forward , he has to wait and see how some guys will do and if some kids can make it . Unless it’s 1st line established player , I don’t think Hughes will move I would try a kids line on the 4th kapanen, Roy and Beck. Beck is the best faceoff man in junior and Kapanen is a wizard defensively , he gets a lot of takeaways and we all know how responsible Roy is defensively Wait one more years before making moves.

I think we should temper expectations. With the asking price on the young available players(Necas\Zegras) it's doubtful KH pulls the trigger and I also don't think Demidov will slip to 5. I hope KH makes me eat my words because that would make for an exciting season next year but realistically it's more likely we end up with Lindstrom\Iginla at 5 and some middle 6 type player for the 26th(plus a b prospect). Guess we find out in 10 or so days.
