Right Terry Butcher, never "one of the biggest names in world football" and he was not england captain, he was 2nd choice captain behind Bryan Robson
@standenbergАй бұрын
‘One of the biggest names’ is just lazy journalism-speak aimed at making someone sound more important to sensationalise events in a run-of-the-mill story. Although Butcher had achieved success at Ipswich (who were not a ‘big’ club), but if he had won similar trophies for Liverpool or Arsenal etc he probably would’ve been classed as a bigger star. And the biggest name in football will always be Borussia Mönchengladbach 😁

Apart from the long term contracts Dundee United's players were on notoriously low basic wages.....but massive performance bonuses, strange how that seemed to encourage them to play better....

Souness was a scumbag on the pitch.

100% a cowardly thug. Albeit let’s be honest he could actually play a fair bit .

He was a cheque book manager at Rangers. Brutal everywhere after. Not in the same conversation as McLean or Ferguson.

I would suggest the souness revolution,along with bosman ruined what was a strong scottish game at that time. A league that competed with the best in europe. Scottish clubs abandoned rearing their own scottish talent for foreign players to keep up with rangers spending in 1986 onwards. Some of these foreign players were bang average and within 4 years moving into the 1990s clubs like aberdeen,hearts,celtic and dundee utd could no longer compete with the best in europe. Even rangers with all the millions spent were big failures in europe. Its a real shame that scottish football is dominated by one club these days(celtic),and potentially rangers if they ever sort out their finances. Its been almost 40 years since a club outside glasgow won the league.

What a missed opportunity re Dundee and Dundee United/Hibs and Hearts failing to merge. We could have had two mediocre teams in Edinburgh and Dundee, instead of four really poor ones.
@exitthelemming1455 ай бұрын
Although I don't think Souness personally culpable in this, his Rangers' team success with owner David Murray is still the biggest cheating scandal in British sport. That said, Man City may yet eclipse this.
@bowlofcinder4824 ай бұрын
of course he was culpable or do you think he was lied to? he had received almost 2 mil in tax free wages for years

The narrator claims David Murray bankrolled Rangers, this is utter garbage. David Murray borrowed £6m from the bank to buy Rangers and we were £6m in debt straight away rising to £89m at one stage....kindly explain how this is David Murray bankrolling my club Rangers?

he paid an arm and a leg for rangers (well 2 legs)

Yes I agree the narrator's use of 'bankrolled' is highly inappropriate. Perhaps he should have said that Rangers success during the period where Murray was chairman was bankrolled by the biggest cheating scandal in British sport to date. Better?
