Theres no city quite like Wellington. I've lived and visited many cities and now live in Aussie, when I tell people here you can't find good coffee and food here they get offended, I don't think food in Aussie is bad, its just that Wellington has set the bar so high. You can buy just an egg on toast and somehow its mind blowing better than anything you've ever eaten!

Thanks for visiting my hometown! I was surprised to see L'Affare and Monsoon Poon meet the line up of places to go, perfectly good but super dated in terms of the best of what Wellington has to offer. When you're back, some additional cool spots Customs, Pour and Twist and Raglan Roast for coffee. Restaurants - Kisa, Shepherd, Rita, Atlas or Cicio Cacio out in Newtown are wonderful to visit. Try Hanging Ditch for cocktails or even go to CGR Merchants for something a little different.

Don't Know if you knew this but there is a native tree tp NZ called the pohutukawa aka NZ Christmas Tree. In the 1980s 5000 pohutukawas were planted in San Francisco. I love my home town! The award was from lonely planet “the coolest little capital” and one of our slogans used here is “u cant beat wellington on a good day”. Its so very true and its all in walking distance. Wellington has more cafe’s per capita than New york city so its why the coffee became so good here. Back in my teenage years we had barstias from italy come out to teach us and the cafe u went to was the first of many back in the 90’s that started roasting there own beans. A lot of my american friends who are more educated in coffee (not starbuck people) havent found a comparable brew in some of their states. But due to the huge amount of places, if u dont get it right all round (food and coffee) u dont last long here. Moonson poon has also been round since the 90’s so if its still going that long u know they are doing something right, as others come n go. So you did get some great recommendations. Carrie looks amazing with her styling new threads and u guys have litreally only scratched the surface. We have so much to offer and more eating and drinking venues than u could get through in a whole year of every day eating. Wellington on a plate is a great choice because u get great food and beverage pairings and lots of resturants compete in that. We also have WOW (world of wearable arts) hear annually that carrie would love. People from all over the world come for that and recycling things from trash is only one section. Ive seen dresses made completly of wood which was amazing and kids have a section too which my daughter was in back in the 00’s. Its is a huge international comp now very highly regarded within both art and fashion worlds,so u guys should look into that as well for next time. We have a large arts scene from music to craft beer festivals and everything in between. U have to do Te papa though as its our national museum and will give u both a great history lesson from our Maori and British start and our war efforts ect plus our kiwi no 8 wire can do attitude. U may be surprised by how much has been invented in NZ and just what an impact we have had on the world for such a tiny far away nation. A lot of foreigners have no idea, so might be more for Carrie that part as ur dad im sure would have been proud of his kiwi history. Gosh rambling now. Great video again Alex u do an amazing job everytime! Thanks for coming to Welly and showing her beauty.

@@AlexanderAyling Once you do settle you need to get the app neighbourly. It will let u get to know you’re immediate area and your neighbours if u choose to. But its good for civil defense and also local city council are using it and the government and just the local knitting circle and seed swap groups ect. Plus local goods and services. But u only get the best from it if u can supply your suburb. Its kinda like Fb just made for kiwis. Has taking the place of a lot of the small town newspapers, which still come but will only be a couple of pages and will refer u here anyway. U most likely know already but thought i would pop it here in case.

Wow you really got the inside info on the spots - I love Alistair's and Paper Bag Princess - Recycle Boutique is also by the same owners and they send the stock that doesn't sell or doesn't fit with the Recycle Boutique vibe to Paper Bag Princess - so you get similar stuff at a much cheaper price (and they don't really know their labels which is why you got the Saks Fifth Ave Coat in PPP for a good price - it would have been $100 in Recycle Boutique). There are also lots of charity run thrift shops in Wellington - one place to find quite a few close together is Jackson St, Petone. the Charity shops are usually cheaper - but PPP and Recycle Boutique and the others on Cuba St do have cute stuff.

Enjoyed that! Love how you're slowly discovering the many different sides of NZ. Hey and as another Wellington recommendation when you get back: Zealandia Sanctuary! An oasis in the city filled with rare birds and gorgeous native forest as it is mammalian free behind mammalian proofed fences (the rare birds don't do well elsewhere as the introduced mammals both compete with, eat and disrupt their environment). Look out for these kinds of sanctuaries and islands around the country as they offer insight into the liveliness of NZs wildlife its natural evolutionary setting. Utterly rejuvenating.

@michaelheliotis52793 жыл бұрын
Yeah, definitely second the recommendation on Zealandia. You can catch the cable car from the city and then hop on the free shuttle from the Botans to Zealandia (shuttle times are on their website). The sanctuary has been so successful at rehabilitating native bird populations that now the birds are busting out and colonising the neighbouring suburbs, which has added a wonderfully musical ambience to my backyard!

I've never been to wellington, NZ but seeing through your lens had moved NZ way up on my bucket list. I'll be there soon. Thank you so much for this amazing video sir. Btw i really liked that confused look on your face when carrie ma'am said "it's wedge not heels", we men try to know a lot about fashion, dresses n boots but they always come up with something new, right? 😂

I was convinced you were going to finish at Chow. 😂 Next time you are in town get to Highwater, Shepherd or Mason for some delicious kai. You definitely hit the ‘tourist hot spots’ on locations for this video.

It'll be a shame if you skipped the Gold Digger #3 at Library. KC Cafe is a great wee place to grab cheap food too. Jackson St in Petone is a great place to check out; you've just scratched the surface really.

Look forward to staying in Wellington sometime in the future. Have only ever passed through on the way to somewhere else. I also love thrift shopping, and Carrie your outfit looked amazing. 🙂

Wow. Does that little elevator come with your accommodation? Or is it servicing several houses there?

OMG!!! Paperbag Princess...YES!!! Don't forget to check out Te Papa. Spent a lot of time there when I first moved to NZ and I learned a lot! Don't miss Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War. It's been on since 2015 and will end April next year. Great video :)

The reality is that New Zealand is the greatest country and Wellington is a very safe place to visit unlike some of the cities in the USA

LOVE, LOVE LOVE! The best video guys! You’re in my hometown, which I am missing so much atm😢 I am a slow fashion consumer so the thrifting peek was fab! Carrie, I love that coat! I found a gorgeous silk black and white skirt at Paper Bag Princess on my last visit home (March 2019). I live in Canada, and have been to quite a few US cities, but not yet San Francisco. Loved hearing your thoughts on the similarities ❤️ Enjoy your travels guys😘🇨🇦🇳🇿

Hi. We’ve been following your travels and really enjoyed your videos and we’re just wondering: Did you ever consider the Kapiti Coast as a place to live? Especially places like Waikanae and Raumati Beach should really tick a lot of boxes. I live in Aotea which is an absolutely amazing part of New Zealand north of Wellington. Wishing you all the best in finding your dream home and looking forward to your next adventure.
