They're not different traditions. The Taiko drummers are working in their style, but in a drum challenge rooted in Welsh Celtic follow-the leader tradition. That's the middle of three, the final one being a merge of styles.

They are playing a variant of a Japanese song called Agari-Yatai. It is a call back song and the Welsh drummers are supposed to respond by imitating the Taiko drummers.

Welsh drums are know for fast tripple hits. Would be much better if they played the melody in a proper way those drums are played. More like welsh guards v. taiko drummers.

Love the show case of different styles of war drums. The east went for a deep resonating sound that vibrates your chest where as the west went for a faster higher pitched sound that should have no problem being heard in the middle of a fight. Would been neat if it was more of a dual rather then a simple call response show to better showcase each styles strengths.

@TheTeresu
@TheTeresu 4 жыл бұрын
@@markhorton8578 Honestly, it goes to personal taste in my opinion who is the best. While both of those corps are clearly extremely skilled, I find kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJLKpH-og9-aaas much more impressive both visually and in sound, even though that is from a college group. But it totally is my preference as I've always felt that marching percussion instruments sound kind of bland. And I'm by no means someone who has enough knowledge and experience to go rating different drummers, especially when they use completely different types of drum.
@Robertahausen
@Robertahausen 4 жыл бұрын

@@TheTeresu Thanks. That was very good, and i enjoyed that. Many years ago I saw an huge English band called She-Boom (long before the internet and youtube.) which was also all female and more vital, with many huge kettle drums and many other types. I think you are comparing apples with oranges. Static bands have a very different sound, the ones favoured in the west are often too focused on sheer power and seem to have a surprisingly limited range of sound and repertoire, but maybe that is just me. Military and marching bands are no better, but provide a very different styles of music and a wider repertoire of things played. The variation of drum styles, including drum speeds which seem to defy explanation as how it can be done are standard, making pounding a big drum in a group of big drums, a high effort but relatively low skill activity.

Two completely different styles of drumming here. The military drumming of the Guards was designed to encourage troops on the battlefield and to transmit orders and signals under fire. Taiko drums by their very size are not a portable instrument and are designed for a more courtly performance. to say one is better than the other is to demonstrate pure ignorance. in this performance both styles strive to each compliment the other. It's about music people not trashtalk.
@AceKitties
@AceKitties 5 жыл бұрын
You're some what right, and abit ignorant to lol, Taiko drums where used for battle, too and also communication between villages. They where also used in battlefields, to Intimidate enemys, and inspire troops main purpose, to intimidate. Dont know if youve seen, where two daimyōs(Lords), send their best Retainers(Samurai Generals in training), to fight the enemy best Retainer. Taiko drums where used by both sides while this took place. altho Its still somewhat unclear the purpose of this duels,Daimyō's would still engage in battle after their reteiners, Lose or win the duel. So... yeah "pure Ignorance" huh?

No partisan stuff. This is what we (humans) could do. This is a sounding to the universe. Each (and all) unit is so disciplined and co-ordinated, and calls up high emotions. I don't know how to put it. These are the ones to put us out and about to the galaxy. It is a wide vacuum beyond our atmosphere. If (and we will or perish) we can combine/complement each other/person/government/civilization/drum and bugle corp (jokeA), this is our clarion call to survival. And if not, these ladies and gentlemen ROCK@!!@!!
