What an amazing plant. It is among the last of an ancient lineage of gymnosperms whom we now call Gnetidae. Other than the plants which it's linked most closely with, Gnetales and Ephedrales, They are most closely related to the conifers.

I have this plant it's 1 year old. It's living in the bay area. Any tips of growing? Does it like full sun or partial? How about fertilizer?

@dean6215 did your welwitschia survive in the bay area? Would love to know a little bit about your care routine

It didn't survive unfortunately. i tried a few tihngs and experimented on the soil and environment. it might have been my fault im sure. it's a slow growing plant so i wasn't sure if i had left it alone it would've thrived. but too late. it's a cool plant though. would like to get one again. maybe a little more established and not as a seedling. @@kavinchawla1

impressive film, thoroughly researched, I wish you great success in your future endeavours. One would hope that National Geographic would pick this up, given that the BBC is going down the drain and really hasn't prospered in this programming area after Attenborough's (slow) departure.
