I love my Wen 6.5 Ton Electric log splitter. Today I want to show you how to handle a log that the splitter won't go through.

I was impressed with the splitter. I was even more impressed with your trailer, winch system and your tractor.

Neat trailer idea. I have the basically the same splitter. My is 5 ton. Yardworks brand. Looks exactly like yours, but a different colour. Every thing you’ve said about the splitter is true. I’ve had mine for 5 years and split 8 cords of hardwood with it each of those years. Great splitters. Have a great day.

When the ram stops before it is done splitting I just put a block of hardwood in and keep pushing until it pushes all the way through extending the ram a few inches. I have been using this 6.5 ton splitter for several years now, works great for my fire wood, now my nephew has a 37 ton splitter, I keep telling him it would probably split rocks LOL

So if you had to buy it again now, would you buy the same one today? Thx.
@bb1040

@@jaimedpcaus1 I think I would, it has split a lot of firewood for me and so far no real problems, I use it all year, in the summers for splitting the rounds for firewood and in the garage in the winter for making them even smaller. I did put a foot switch on it so I could have one hand free to guide the logs through. I really do not need a 37 ton splitter like some use for commercial operations, those can split rocks. LOL

Do you have a video showing the build out of the firewood picke❤r upper? I would like to add one to my trailer. If you have a “bill of materials” that went into it, i would appreciate a copy. Thank you.

For the bigger rounds I take my saw and score the end, seems to work great
@OldSoulMillennial
@OldSoulMillennial Жыл бұрын
That's an idea. When the rounds get too large for me, I just rip them in half with the saw. Dulls the chain quickly though.

The trick is to go around the knots. That's what gave you problems at the beginning. Also, these splitters badly need table extensions imo. I'd built a better table with an extension for outside and keep this table inside to make kindle wood in the winter. I like your trailer/arm/winch system a lot. Nice. Thanks for the video.
@OldSoulMillennial

I agree with everything you said. Going through the knot was semi intensional to demonstrate what this unit can and Can't do. Cheers

I actually watched this video because of the crane and winch you are using. I am often loading large oak rounds by hand. Some are too large for me to load alone so they sit there until I can get my log splitter out to the job site. Been considering the crane and winch on my other trailer for this.

I have been a professional fabricator for many years and now work at a technical college helping students design and build a project in their senior year. Your trailer setup with a winch and even the tongs are fantastic-A+++.The setup is a real back saver! I say this politely 🙂your table is an accident waiting to happen. I hope you are wearing steel toe shoes at the very least.

I bought the WEN without the stand, and just use an old heavy duty fold up 3'x6' conference table. That way, if the log falls, it just lands on the table.
@PainterD54
@PainterD54 2 ай бұрын
You need to add another cross piece on the bottom of the wedge end of the splitter to stabilize it from tipping so bad. And adding a table after the wedge end of the splitter for the wood pieces to slide onto would make it so much easier.

I just ordered a 6.5 ton splitter from Lowe’s, get it later this week can’t wait to try it out. I have no larger then 12” rounds so according to your example should work fine. Time to retire the Ax:)
