Yes, but Peter Pan is also gender-bending. You may be too young to know that until about the past 34 years, except for the Disney animated feature of 1953, Peter was always played by a woman: The first play staged in 1903, Peter was played by a woman. I'm sorry I have forgotten the name of the actress. Betty Blythe played Peter in the 1920's silent film; Mary Martin, Cathy Rigby, Mia Farrow, and Jean Arthur on the stage from 1950 through the 1980's. Peter Pan has something for everybody: Macho, swashbuckling stuff for the boys; girly, feminine stuff for the girls; a compelling hero and equally compelling heroine. The supporting characters are all interesting, and the setting is fantastic. I think Peter Pan is the greatest piece of children's literature ever written and James Barrie was a genius. I just taught Peter Pan to my second grade class. I read the Junior Illustrated Classics version, which preserves all of the original plot elements and a lot of Barrie's beautiful descriptive language. We write about our wonderful thoughts; take a poll on which group you'd join in the Neverland: The Pirates, Indians, or the Lost Boys, and you have to give three reasons why; we write a letter to our parents, telling them we are going to Neverland with Peter and we tell them three things we'd like to do there; we map the Neverland; and finally we play Peter Pan Bingo. I used to do a whole class debate on whether or not going to Neverland is a good idea or a bad idea, but all the kids want to go, so I gave that one up. I have loved Peter Pan since my mother first read James Barrie's book to me when I was three years old.

i actually think that's cool, because growing up as a girl, i always wanted to be a part of the lost boys group, and never really understood why it was exclusively boys (because if the lost boys were all orphans that Peter found, then wouldn't there be orphan girls in England he would've found too? maybe he just wanted it to be a boys only club, but leaving orphan girls behind while the boys are whisked away to a better place is really cruel imo)

I tried to ask which pronouns I should use and more than one person looked at me as if I killed their dog instead of realizing I'm just trying to be polite. So, it's not transphobia, it's that I don't have many people skills and whenever I try to be polite and ask, people get offended. I don't have a problem with it, heaven knows I have friends that belong with the lgbtq+, and so do I.

Well curly (george mackay) still acting, tootles(rupert simonian) he was acting but now make voices for cartoon shows and works in marketing and production, slightly (theodore chester) is English teacher and theater producer and writer, nibs(harry eden) he was acting but now is dedicated to the production, and the twins (lachlan and Patrick gooch) returned to Australia and one of them is doctor and the other...
